Look up Schmidt moving pig iron. (important study) He was promised more money for working more efficiently. Upped his productivity by nearly 300% under guidance (from shifting 12 tons per day to shifting 47 tons.) but didn't have his pay raised to that extent. I've worked in places where management sent the "Time and Motion" (now work study) people in, in the hope of upping production without much investment. Yeah, sure, we'll take heavier cuts, and use higher spindle speeds with old machines... See what your additional production costs you in downtime, pal... I worked at roof level (repairing a crane) at a big motor component pressing plant (now long gone) and was amazed at the tortuous route product took from goods in to dispatch. (that doesn't help efficiency, is outwith worker control) Then I saw film of a Kia pressing facility in Slovakia. A joy to see, with material moving in a logical manner from goods in to the assembly section... (and a beautiful working environment) But very few (and better trained / educated) workers by comparison. Meaning less able workers struggle for work...

Or a clean floor and a trolley to move the boxes with the batches around. This is so obvious and could be done so easily.
