Hagler takes measurements in the first round or two...then dismantles them piece by piece... Obelmejias is one tough dude..and extremely confident, but he had to know after the 4th round, he was in way over his head... he did way better than glass chin Hearns .. +
Exactly. Evidence look at the guys faces who went Rounds with him (Hamsho, Sibson, Minter, etc.. They were bloody messes. Or they couldn't stand (Hearns and Mugabi)
Marvin knew. He knew he'd got his man. His opponent had 28 KO's out of 40 fights and he obviously though another KO was on the cards.. Problem was? He'd never fought a fighter, a true champion like Marvin and he met 'reality'. Salute Marvelous Marvin Hagler. RIP my friend.
Obelmejias was a good fighter. Hagler was in his prime and just unstoppable. I don't think there was many fighters ever who could have beat this primed Hagler.
Corrado Junior- Ray Leonard worked out the only way to beat him was to hit and run. He impressed with rapid flurries of lots of punches, only some of which hit and then ducked quickly out, making Hagler miss just enough. However, none of Leonards punches realy hurt Marvin but Hagler landed plenty, many of which stunned Ray. I'm still not totally convinced that Ray Leonard won that, but it was one of those which could've gone either way.
@@kelvinfoote9897 Yeah....but was that Hag the same as this Hag? Nah..... handspeed was slightly slower against Leonard. Ray wouldnt have been able to keep this version off of him, I think. Ray's later career sure was odd!! Went on to fight Lalonde and Hearns again.... I think of all the good years Ray wasnt fighting and it makes me sad!! An earlier rematch with Hearns would have been awesome. I think he couldve had a huge fight with Curry at Jr. Middle b4 Donald got "Honeyghan-ed"
@@renzopeterson153 A 12 round fight between Hagler and Jones would be a close fight I think. 15 rounds Hagler beats Jones. McCallum gets beaten soundly by Hagler IMO. He doesn't have Jones quickness to escape the brutality of Hagler.
I noticed the same thing. I am guessing whoever uploaded this was also listening to music elsewhere in their domain, and there was some electronic bleedover. It sounds like some sort of Latin pop music.
Haglers right hand was like a rocket and he was the master of disaster here and his hands shot out like gattelen guns great balance what a fighting machine and his chin was granite
I was at this fight.I remember it seemed like every round Marvin almost had him out but the dude just kept coming back.Marvin threw low blows but got away with it.Obel was a shrewd tough guy.in the end.Nice to see again,Marvin was the best.
Marvin Hagler is one of the toughest guys to figure out how to beat. Unless you can box and dance for 12 Rounds, he will walk through everything you can throw. He is an excellent technical boxer, slipping punches, etc... and he had SPECIAL stamina and recovery.
I am # 1 Marvin Bagley fan. I always followed his fights. Because I know a great fighter when I see one. And he would have beat every middleweight in every era in including Ray Robinson.
So many middleweights look impressive till you see Marvellous Marvin Hagler you see totally a different man in front of you. His board shoulders his massif chest his huge legs and thighs, a tank!!!!
another over-hyped boxer from Venezuela who made a name for himself fighting ham-n-eggers in Venezuela an throughout the caribbean………..but when it came time to step up to the big leagues and take on a real fighter in the Marvelous one, boy was he exposed..
I loved to watch Hagler ;; he was such an intelligent fighter------could switch sides & hands at any time ; his jabs were ferocious & the man could take a hit ! Hearns hit him with all he had & Marvin Hagler was stunned, but never backed up. I loved the guy. RIP.------------------------MJL, 76 y/o
I was at this fight. My 82nd ABN DIV buddy Pepper Roach and I drove up from Bragg to Boston to see his brother Freddie fight also on the under-card of this Hagler fight. Awesome! This was Hagler's first middleweight title defense.
Great fight .Hagler was an all time great . we got lucky, back then .Hagler, Sugar Ray Leonard, Hearns and Duran .we hit the jack pot ! They don't make fighters like that anymore.
Hagler was a natural middleweight and fought as such. He did what he was good at. He wasn't really big enough to fight at higher weights. What is the point of of ballooning up the divisions, just waiting to fight a weak WBU/WBO/Ronald McDonald so-called champion and then ducking anyone who is a natural super middle/light heavyweight in case they get clobbered? Hagelr's main gripe was that all the money at the time was in the bloated heavyweight scene that was full of overpaid lard mountains.
So true that. If you're naturally suited to a division, why give that all up just to move up in weight. Every fighter is different. Some grow out of their divisions. Others don't. The ignorant haters knocking Hagler because he didn't move up are simply stupid.
@Swedish American Nah Michael Spinks was an ATG Light Heavy that Marvin Hagler wouldnt have had a chance against, thats why it wasnt a good idea to move up. Anways there wouldnt have been too much money between them, they werent marketed particularly well. All the $$$$ was with Ray Leonard and the heavyweights(which is why Spinks went up to cash in at heavy). An ATG lower weight fighter moving up to beat another ATG heavier fighter is a crazy thing to see
Jay Zachary your delusional, Leonard himself said the only reason he fought hagler was because he knows he wasn’t the same after the Mugabi fight, it took something out of him and he knew it was the right time, and even then, most experts gave the fight to Hagler
No excuses Hagler lost to a old rusty Sugar ray leonard who had 4 years off a bad eye and he was on cocaine !! Now who's delusional I'm speaking facts they fought and hagler lost. The same outcome if they were both younger an out boxed Marvin hagler .
Jay Zachary yeah yeah, now who’s making excuses, that same Leonard was training way before he asked for the Marvin fight, and after the fight went on to win and defend the light heavyweight titles, dude, watch the 4 kings documentary, he himself says he would not beat Hagler in the right circumstances, you hear it from the man himself LOL talk about fanboying, the dude even said he wanted to give up in the later rounds, don’t get me wrong, Leonard is a legend, but he never fought nobody in their prime
Jay Zachary he got beat by a Lightweight Duran, then since he knew he couldn’t beat him in the right circumstances he forced the governing body’s to make him defend his titles in a couple weeks while he was 200 pounds making him weak on fight day and never looked that bad again, beat Hearns when he was a kid and brought to the lions to early, then the Hagler fight where he manipulated the governing bodies again and Hagler too into making a fight while he already was thinking of retirement, only good win he has is a Prime Benitez who I give him all credit and respect for
GGG might not have beaten Obel. Not that night Obel would give GGG a hard fight any day of the week. Hagler would give GGG a Tony Sibson style beating.
Hagler threw enough punches for three fights ! amazing obel took all that punishment. he can always tell his grandchildren that i was still standing while they stopped the fight
Hagler was VISCOUS ! Urrrr!!! He worked and worked on his challenger til they wilted! He fought a style that could leave a man permanently injured, but thought of it as WAR! He was bringing the WAR to the ring! RIP MARVELOUS ONE!
In order to be a tall 6’2” 157lbs one must have skinny legs. Which is great against lesser opponents, but a solidly built monster like Hagler made those skinny legs quickly weaken.
