Id say starting with this fight, 1981-1983, was Marvin at his absolute peak. His jab, punch selection, pin point accuracy and movement were nothing short of marvelous.

Totally agree. After that he relied more on his experience and toughness to beat fighters like Hearns and Mugabi, even Roldan in '84. This performance is peak Hagler at the top of his ability.

Marvin Hagler was in my opinion simply the BEST to do it. He was the complete package 📦. A Dedicated, focused, integrity, prideful champion who truly relished being champion. He could do it all in his prime. Box, counter punch, move well laterally, defend, switch hit seamlessly from righty to lefty, cast iron chin, Beautiful BALANCE, QUICK punishing combinations, extremely ACCURATE And had excellent stamina and endurance. NEVER knocked down. Avenged his few losses with emphatic victories. The only exception being the debated decision loss to Leonard. By then he had enough of the boxing politics and left on his own terms. He could maintain an uptempo pace that forced other guys to sort of struggle to keep up with him. He was equally effective going backwards or coming forward. Marvin ducked NOBODY. He fought the cream of the crop of thd division. Guys that could be champions today especially in this watered down bogus era where even C level Fighters can grab a title belt. Hagler was always in shape unlike Ali, James Tony and Duran who were known to get sloppy and blow up in between fights. He didn't avoid dangerous rivals ( went to Philly and DEMANDED His team get him against the most vicious and prolific middleweights of that era) unlike Ray Robinson who avoided the highly vaunted Black Murderers Row. He didn't marinate fights and wait for a dangerous rival to age( BOXING wise) and lose a step like Mayweather did with Manny Pacquiao. No fancy negotiations to get several edges over his opponent or demanding a certain referee. He didn't voluntarily give up his title to avoid a dangerous mandatory like Canelo Alvarez did when a younger more close to his prime Golovkin was the mandatory. Or make excuses like Deontay Wilder when he lost. Like a MAN and Dedicated Warrior he came back and destroyed his rival to even the score. Hagler was truly in a class all his own. The very definition of a championship fighter and a man of integrity and pride.

I watched Hagler when I was a little boy and actually rooted against him every single time He fought(I think it was that his bald head mad him look like a mean dude. Not many guys rocked a bald head back then) But now that I'm an adult and watch his fights. His boxing skills are astonishing. He had all the tools and techniques. He makes 95% of the professional boxers today look like amateurs. Look at how he uses his jab as an offensive weapon and defensive weapon. His jab came at all angles and he quick turned the same jab into a hook to the body. Look how close he can stand close to a guy and, slip and muffle shots. Look how when his opponent tries to get busy with his hands and Hagler ties his arms up quickly. Honestly the closest guy during this era who can close to him is Andre Ward. Both guys took guys hearts and desire to fight away in late rounds. I'm from Philly. Love Benard Hopkins, but he didn't have as many skills and tricks as Hagler.

HAGLER had hit HAMSHO with 21 Un-Answered shots. Hamsho could have gotten seriously hurt had the ref NOT done his job. GREAT FIGHT.... worth watching again. HAGLER'S Footwork was also nice. He almost NEVER Squared up. Always approached HAMSHO at an angle; even when he clearly had the upper hand. That takes a lot of discipline. He never under-estimated Hamsho. Although he's been calling fights for 4 decades, I'm not a big fan of Barry Tompkins. He usually calls a figh,t where you're hoping the challenger makes a decent effort, very lopsided in favor of whoever is the champion. Here, Hamsho was giving signs in the first 2 rounds this wasn't going to be an easy fight for Marvin but Tompkins called it like victory was just a couple of punches away for the champ. It wasn't until Mustafa hung around and landed some big punches on MMM that he started calling the fight like it was competitive. I'm actually a big fan of Jim Lampley. Yes I know he has earned a lot of criticism but I think there are few men who call the sport who are as passionate for it and who understand the significance of it more than he does. He always calls a fight with great respect and genuine emotion.

Bar none, marvelous Marvin hagler was the best I personally can say was the best pound for pound fighter of all time. The reason I say these things are the obvious, fought em all and did not matter where. Excellent foot movement, left to right, right to left as in constant angles thus rarely leaving himself open. Power in both hands. Could take a punch. Dedicated as one can see watching him he trained 110%. Listened to his corner. I respect then and now Mr Marvelous Marvin Hagler. I honestly hope he rests in peace. Oh, and came from some terrible conditions as a child and was a hod carrier in early life. Never, ever forgot to take care of his family but mostly his mom.

Ida paid money to see hamsho mix it up with Duran, hearns and antuofermo! He was very underrated IMHO. Hagler was absolutely marvelous

Hamsho knew trying his usual mauling dirty tactics wouldn't work against Hagler. This was arguably the best boxing performance of his career. Marvelous Marvin Hagler was the epitome of a champion.

The pressure that Hagler applies on his opponents. You dont see it hardly anymore in fighers these days.Different breed in that era and especially before it.

Marv not as muscled up here as opposed to later in career but the footwork-jab much better. Timing sharper more agile as well. Tough fight vs fellow southpaw, Hamsho fits the mold of the southpaw power puncher/super physically strong fighter. Impressive how Marvin handled and fended off strong 2 fisted attacks, especially in 6th. Took some heat
