He would've did better but just watching this his style Is better then dad, cause son updated things ,I have vid on my page of a person who lied saying joe would've been the best pressure fighter usyk ever fought, joe looks horrible compared even to a amateur on my page, way to easy to read and very flawed, all those 70s guys style were way to basic for this era let alone 90s-now
@@ascendediam Ha, ha, ha. Thank you for the boxing comedy. The greatest fighters could fight and WIN in any era! Johnson. Louis. Marciano. Walcott. Clay/Ali. Smokin' Joe. Sugar Ray Robinson. Hagler. Hearns. Leonard. Duran. Foreman. Shavers. Holmes. Etc. Your boxing knowledge is suspect. To be a champion... ❤️... hard work in the gym... jab... hook... body and head shots... head fake to avoid being hot... stamina... ability to take shots... go late rounds and dig deep. Today's fighters aren't that good
Awful fight...As lackluster as Smith was he deserved to win...Clancy and Ryan's commentary was great here and they were the all time best fight commentary team...Ferdy with Clancy great as well...
There was zero possible Frazier's son was going to become heavyweight champion. Joe himself should have saw that after he started matching his son against contenders. Wasn't going to happen. Way too little and the skill-set wasn't there
I’d say its the complete opposite. Marvis was very skilled, he beat tim witherspoon and mitch green in amateurs, but joe forced him to fight as a swarmer rather than his natural boxing style. Thats what killed marvis, he was a boxer, not a slugger, he was simply too weak and chinny for that.
Marvis was very skilled, and there was a very good possibility that Marvis could have been a champion at heavyweight, especially before Tyson unified the titles. Marvis wasn't going to ever beat Larry Holmes for his belt, but he could have beaten the other champions in the division before 1986. The only reason he didn't become a heavyweight champion was because his chances came against Larry Holmes, and Mike Tyson. Still, Marvis was a really talented heavyweight, and contended for a good stretch of time. He just lacked some of the finer physical traits that his father had such as Joe's crazy endurance for pain, and his powerful left hook. Still, Marvis had a really solid left hook, it just wasn't as devastating as his fathers.
Bone crusher was a massive guy with tremendous punching power, who had knocked out Bruno and Witherspoon also Tyson couldn’t find a way to knock him down and was mostly wrestling with him. Didn’t think marvis could hang with him.
The Frazier family was just built different. Most sons of great fighters lack the heart, and the drive to be a real contender, or a champion. Marvis had the heart of a lion, just like his daddy. He might not have had his dads unbelievable chin, but he had everything else pretty much. You can't get much more unlucky to have to fight Larry Holmes, and Mike Tyson for their belts.
Marvis Frazer was a beast like the father Joe Frazer only mistake was to fight the high level beasts like Larry Holmes and Mike Tyson and unfortunately people only remember him against these beasts
They gave the victory to Marvin Fraizer , however Marvin didn't won the fight . Then they took Marvin Fraizer to the slauhterhouse in a fight with Iron Mike Tyson . I don't understand .
Un gran corazón, parecido al de su padre!! Pero pequeño para los pesos pesados. Debió pelear como peso crucero, hubiese sido el campeón sin ningúna duda.
God bless you Marvis. It's always the people who never boxed who have all of the advice. I was a champion welterweight and i sparred and wore out light heavyweights and heavyweights. No one ever said a word about that..
@@johnreidy2804 Thanks John, but I have to make two qualifications. Not sure why i said champion (maybe because I didn't capitalize it). I never was a champion welterweight, but 8-0 as a welterweight. I sparred many middleweights and light heavyweights and wore them out. I might need to cut out the drinking at night, Lol!
And here's a fight people don't talk about. Lol And it's funny because everyone discredit's Mike Tyson for knocking out Marvis Frazier in 30 seconds but forget that Marvis was actually a pretty good heavyweight. And if you watch him fight, he fought exactly like his father. Now i'm not saying he's as good as Joe was but he wasn't bad either. People will bring up the Larry Holmes fight, but Marvis was still very green when he fought Holmes, he didn't have that much fight experience under his belt yet when he fought Holmes. Joe Frazier rushed him a little too quick when he fought Holmes. When he fought Tyson though, he already had decision wins over James Quick Tillis, Jose Ribalta and got an impressive victory over Bonecrusher in this fight and earned his shot at Tyson. So he was more than ready to fight Tyson. They'll tell you he was too small for Tyson and not strong enough but he wasn't too small for Bonecrusher though who had over 30Ibs. on him and was physically stronger. Lol Tyson was just on another level, and like i've told people before, Tyson made good to great fighters look average when he was on top of his game, this is why he never gets credit for what he did in the heavyweight division when he was on top.
Haha all this commentary not to really praise Marvis but Mike.. Yes IMO Mike is a litte bit underrated by the boxing hardtrash followers and experts. However, he is largely overrated by the average people Most of people will name Tyson and Ali when they talk about boxing. Let's not forget that to this day he is idolized, Mike makes millions and millions of views on the internet ( even more than Ali ) while guys like Holyfield, Lennox lewis for instance who had a much complete career than Tyson are far behind Mike in term of popularity.
Very very fun Fight. Marvis was tenacious like his daddy, but not quite as good. I think Marvis nicked this one. Thanks for sharing. Sadly, Marvis is mostly remember just for losing to Tyson and Holmes each in the first round but he had some good wins.
Like they say styles make fights. Holmes may had not had hit as hard but he knew when to catch you with a punch you couldn't see coming. Much more tactically skilled than Smith
Another thing is, Holmes was always better conditioned than Smith. Of course, Smith's punches were bigger, except that in the mid-to-later rounds, Smith was typically gassed whereas Holmes stayed relatively fresh, and so his punches were actually harder than Smith's under those conditions.
Frazier had all of his father's heart but none of his power or chin. Official scores were 97-96, 96-95 and 97-92 for Frazier. I had it 5-5 in rounds and therefore 95-94 Smith.
It's kinda weird how Marvis actually wins this fight against Bonecrusher, but gets blown out in 30 seconds by Mike Tyson, and yet Bonecrusher is able to go the whole 12 rounds with Tyson!!
I once met Marvis Frazier, believe it or not he was slightly shorter and had a profoundly thinner frame than his dad. I know I’m a bit of a conspiracy theorist but I have serious skepticism about the outcome of this fight. I often wonder how a guy like BC Smith who had respectable power in both hands couldn’t beat a much smaller 5’ 10.5” (actual height) M. Frazier with relative ease. 🫤
@@bgjb-r1499 It's kind of like Smith was toying with him sparing and just wanted to go the distance know he wasn't going to get the nod. Frazier was being set to fight Tyson. Big mistake! Tyson knocked him into next week with that left. Tyson would have knocked Joe into next Tuesday also. Forman would have beat Tyson. Too big! Too tall George would have jabbed him into next Tuesday.
I spent much time at the Broad Street gym as a kid. I never liked Marvis. Loved his dad. Cooper should have always repped that gym. Days gone by. Nepotism. Very solid effort here though.
Слава Богу! Здравствуйте! Тайсон и Холмс, не пустили младшего Фрезера, в элиту тяжëлого веса! Для тяжа, он мал, но боец хороший, напоминал иногда батю! Спасибо!
This is why Mike Tyson destroyed Marvis Frazier. He wasn't about to get caught up in this WINNER BY UNANIMOUS DECISION with no round by round scorecard crap...
Marvis was simply too small to make it far in the heavyweight division. He had an enormous amount of heart and dedication to prevail over fighters like James “Broadass” Broad and James “Bonehugger” Smith. But he found that leveling up to Larry Holmes and Mike Tyson was a step too far.
Marvis had no power and killer istinct, otherwise could to win this match. Him totally wrong in the 7th round where Smith was so tired. It's incredible how much count the tall in boxing, I talk about Mike vs Bonecrasher match, where Mike has gave less problems to Smith than Marvis, but Mike destroyed hard in few seconds Marvis.
Marvis may not have been as good as his dad but for such a short career he had a pretty good resume. I always thought he was better than he got credit for.
@@Mike_Williams32 I think I have the Bey vs Smith fight, but I have to see if the quality is good first. Unfortunately a lot of the fights I have of the Bonecrusher have poor picture and sound
@@josephprolizo701 Bonecrusher Smith had some size, skill, power. Did okay against a prime Tyson, when most were getting embarrassed. You would think Bonecrusher would put this little guy away, maybe not the way Tyson crushed him, but, still, quickly and easily. Did Bonecrusher have an off night, take the kid too lightly? I don’t know. But, Frazier, well-trained - overtrained, put on a good show of his undersized self, and definitely made his daddy proud. But, it is a bit mysterious that The Crusher didn’t really take it to the kid, with all the weapons he had and make it a very short night. You have to give Frazier the night out of sheer audacity, fearlessness and willpower.
Watched this fight live as a kid and thought Smith was robbed. Watched it last night and scored it 96-93 Smith but do not feel as strongly as I did. A lot of close rounds. Frazier seemed to let up in the last 3 rounds and on my card this time that plus the knockdown in the 5th was the difference. Thank you for the upload. Love watching and scoring these old fights.
Marvis is cool. Had an above average career. Look, George Foreman, Ken Norton and Muhammad Ali did not have talented boxing sons anywhere near Marvis' level
Yeah Norton had a son who would go on to have a great professional career, including top NFL coaching jobs. Mainly as a defensive coordinator. Ken Norton Sr also played football before he boxed and could have very well had a career in the NFL himself had he not decided to box professionally.
