I love Mary Black. Her voice is absolutely beautiful. I discovered her on youtube about 3 years ago and sometimes I just play her songs for months on end and listen to nothing else. Her songs and arrangements are so great as are the guys who accompany her. First rate band. I live in CA and have yet to see her perform here but if and when she does, I'll be the first one to buy a ticket. I've turned on a lot of my American friends to her. So I know she has an eager audience waiting to see her.
We are privileged to have music and song with which to live. All of the rest of us - in forests, at sea, listen enchanted. So many voices of beauty. What you do with it is what sets you apart. And the poetry. Irish poetry in Irish song. Unmatchable.
No one makes my hair stand up on the back of my neck like Mary. Unbelievable voice. Been going to see Mary's concerts since the early 90s. Great band to.
I've been a fan of her since the beginning of career! I actually got hooked on her sister first, who had a tremendous first album release! There are few voices this good, and I would put hers right at the top of that list. Her autobiography is worth reading to get a good understanding of her roots! She's a natural entertainer!
Sadly, because I live in the Midwest of the USA, I did not discover her until after the year 2000, but I can tell you, I consider Mary about the top voice I have heard in my life. And that from a person who lived through the years of all the great singers of the US. But Mary tops them all, in my opinion. I wrote a letter to her and she answered. I love that!
I did write this already in another comment and I do agree completely with the other comments. Saw her with this show in Hamburg @ the "Fabrik". Very talented, down to earth though, humble. Had some more than the usual Fan smalltalk with her while I was asking to sign her CDs, and I know, she wasn't obligated to do, even if any artist may depend on every "fan" as "customer". I did appreciate this a lot, and I am convinced she's still thad kind. Really a gem and IMHO a must-to-know when You are into excellent voices and good hand made Music! OK, I might be not completely neutral since having relatives in Northern Ireland and Wales, so being influenced certainly by their love and bindings to music from cradle to grave. Nonetheless...
