Fun facts about this song:This is one of her most successful songs ever. She won two Grammies for this song. Billboard named this song the most successful r&b/hip hop song ever because it stayed on the billboard for a long time. She won 9 billboards that year.

So, think about the videography of this song when you watch it...everything in color is the past (getting together, hard times, arguments) everything in black-and-white is the present (being separated). So the context of the song brings both of those things together. When Terrance Howard and MJB are fighting close to the end of the song and he leaves (in color), she's writing the song about their life together (in black-and-white) while she's waiting for him to come home. At the very end when B&W and color blend as she's opening the door, well, that's them reconciling, having made it through another tough situation everyone "swore it off as a phase, said (they) couldn't see that". Brilliant song, but if you are true MJB fans you've got to go back and do "Everything" and "No More Drama", both produced, I think, by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis.
