From the age of 9 i am collecting things of this tribe and i started reading and learnig all about this beautyful tribe......I am 49 now and i still have very much respect for these special people...Thanks for posting this amazing vid xxx Love from Holland
For sure my favourite video on youtube. I keep on looking it up every now and then. I'm proud of still having beautiful people like them on this beautiful earth.
I went to Kenya in 2009 and was able to go into a masai tribe community. It was so cool to hear how they use their voices and the agility and height they could reach in their jumping! Definitely a blessing!
+Muhammed Emin Kizilkaya Yep! It is basically a 'pride anthem' on being a maasai.Mentions the warrior(hood) period of a man and the things they did. Very inspirational if you are a maasai like myself
it's amazing to me how the vocal inflections sound exactly like early blues recordings (down to the guttural Popeye-esk throaty sound, that was used by some blues singers), yet I have never known of the TAST to go this far inland (unless there's an Indian ocean aspect I'm not aware of). East Africa (Uganda, Kenya, etc.) shares more in common with American vocal traditions than West Africa seems to, though both influences are strong (vocally and instrumentally). Thanks for posting.
beautiful video.am a kenyan, but dont understand what they are singing about, but from the time i started living in Europe i learnt to appriciate this.they are just from a few tribes that still live traditionally.they spend most time outside, meet families and friends, and never lonely unlike we living in europe our best friends are internet and tvs imagine how many people suffer from depression in western life.im so much impressed from their jewerleries, too bad i never met them even in Kenya.
I think i have played this video more than 10 times...and every time i see it, i feel like dancing or jumping or doing somthing with my feet :) this is a pure manifastation of human nature. Singing, hopping, moving arround, luaghing with your friends in the wilderness, what else is there?Thank you so much for reminding all of us :))))Cheers
These people are fucking lion-killing warriors, lol. They depend on nothing but themselves for survival and they have very intense ritualistic ceremonies not unlike a modern heavy metal concert where the whole ground shakes from their rhythmic stomping. They go into shamanic fits while dancing that would probably scare the shit out of you if they fell to the ground in convulsions while you were around. They're also in incredible shape and do this for hours, sometimes all day. You wouldn't be able to keep up. You think it's just a silly game to them? Hopping around and laughing with friends? They're not some noble savage group of child-like primitives for the bored hippie Westerner to fantasize about living among. They're not goofing off and making silly sounds for the fun of it in this video because they're free-spirited. They're doing it for religious reasons that unify the tribe and help to ensure their survival and solidarity on a social level.
Beautiful! Every time I watch something about the African culture I feel so close to my ancestors. Hope one day I can have enough money to make an extensive 4-month trip to this precious country!
this is so beautiful, I love it. no wonder made us in so many forms and abilities. this world is full of wonders. these people are beautiful in their natural environment, too bad for urbanization, we all change. thank you for bringing this to us. San Diego Ca.
saw today a massai-choir in concert... unbelievable to see this rite live! they are a really proud and worhty people. incredible that they are still oppressed by the gouvernement of tansania...
they neva use drums in their songs. I wonder why I never asked the maasais that i countlessly met in the city nairobi kenya. By the way nairobi used to be their tribal land until it was turned into a city. Bt their villages surround nairobi and when they come to the city they dress just as in the video their look commands respect and admiration .
i live with them and what i saw really hurt my feeling...our Gov. from around the world they should leave them alone. let this people live the way the been leaving i hate the gov. they try to teach them our life style which sucks..they dont care abt money job gas..they have awesome life into the wild..where they love being so plz leave them alone.....
When I was little, between the ages 3-5 years old (2003-2005) I remember watching a documentary film about the Maasai all the time. I wish I knew what it was called so I can watch it again. I almost think this videos could be from that film but I may be mistaken. Does anybody know of what the name of this film this could be?
our beautiful past,, although it is pretty clear that things will change forever,,,,the stunning chanting was what our ancestors used to enjoy for hundreds of years ago....today we are schooling.....we are going to learn science and engineering......we have started to learn about Newtonian physics, Maxwell Planck, Albert Einstein to mention just a few our past rich with values and culture but today all these is changing at a pace..we are orienting ourselves to fit the current globalised world..
we need more of these videos, show how beautiful this is and to start teach people, the truth, this is beautiful, now i now why my friends and i like to double dutch look at the hair, how long it is, hey girls what you doing, us black girls need to learn from you, the natural way
i am in love with this tribe ever since i was`3.my mother says matbe i was from this tribe in a past life.and funny you might say that they sound like native americans kinglouis(even your utube name, but that's another story)cause i have native american and african(along with many others)ancestry.
Its sad when people form another culture who have doing what they have been since the dawn of time are trying to show us there ways are looked down upon by ignorant tools whose lives revolve around the magical talking box that tells them what to wear, who to listen to, and what to think, and are to brain washed to understand that this is a beautiful thing that has been going on since man has stood upright.
Trust me man ,he is an American . Thats where his heart is . My parents are from immigrats here in SA , that's where I was born and thats the country i feel at home at .
love it. i grew up among the maasai, and I've to say that they are the most wonderful people you'd ever want to know. funny, smart, resourceful, patient, you name it. the swing of the locks onto the other muran at 4:55 is synonymous to a compliment to the guy getting swiped. the backdrop is amazing though...this must have been in Tanzania right?
around 4:05 the throat singing sounds like that one in Yellow Knife (Canada) or Yukon Inuit: watch?v=qnGM0BlA95I&feature=PlayList&p=903E09D14E82388E&playnext=1&index=58
I'm sorry but I just don't understand why some of you get so teary eyed and emotional about this. Jumping up and down on the spot all day - big fucking deal! I prefer my electric guitars, videos, books, soft furnishings, restaurants, computer, phone, fresh sheets, air conditioned car, motorbike and milk chocolate. I won't be swapping it for bouncing up and down in the grass any time soon.
I don't get that either. I think it's because to whites, it's a part of the world that nobody gets to see, I guess. It may look strange, but it's another human being's culture. To blacks, it's their people and the fact that their ancestors were taken away from them by the Arab slave trade and the Atlantic slave trade.
only after the last tree has been cut down..... only after the last river has been poisened..... only after the last fish has been caught...... only then will you find that money cannot be eaten.....
