Maserati Levante 3.0 V6 diesel real world review. Includes on and off road driving.. This video was created with the support of: www.footmanjame... www.classicands... www.silverston... Thanks for watching.
This is the best car RU-vid channel. It's so comfy. No one screaming at me, no 420BLAZEITBRAHH crap, no one shilling some stupid tshirt, no cringe worthy jokes... just direct discussion about cars.
It's b/c Mr.Metcalfe is one of those rare care journalists like Harris that give out informative automotive information. The others are just playing pretend; or trying to mimic them & just catch up at best.
I agree with both of you guys but I honestly think the main difference is that both Harry and Chris actually go out and drive the cars. Even Shmee you wouldn't really see him ripping around a field like that to actually test the car. No one cares about how much carbon a car has we just want to see how a car performs.
It's because he has a real automotive journalism background, and not a youtuber wannabe, 'support me on patreon' attitude towards his followers and what he does.
it sounded like a tractor at the beginning the great thing about Harry reviewing a car is his technical knowledge and his fairness. he tries an ice covered Hill and it fails,at the point most presenters would roll out the 'its no range rover, up this Hill" but no,Harry goes and fetches his range rover, tries and fails the same Hill (and puts it on the film). quality review as always.
Bryan Yes, agree, sounds like a tractor, and although I might love a tractor, there is no way I want a car that sounds like this. I much prefer my almost worthless 1998 XJ. V8 petrol that will scream to 6800 rpm. Trouble is the cars I desire are £100k upwards new. Can't justify spending that, and no way would I consider this diesel lump. I also have a 1997 diesel escort van, in a way it's fun to drive as you can keep your right foot to the floor most of the time without being illegal!
I just have to say, such fantastic work on this review! The part where Harry brings in his Land Rover to show that it aswell got stuck on the hill was exactly what I was wondering. Just great work! Thank you
"real world review' and proceeds to drift it around his own field. Harry, you are a legend. It brings me joy to see your channel grow like that in a world full of spotters, Lambos spitting fire in central London and the other run-of-the-mill youtuber specials. Keep it up!
I have to say that this Levante reminds me A LOT of the Mazda CX-5. The size, shape and even down to the long door mentioned in the beginning of the video.
Maybe the 15 inch footwell and only selling it in the Diesel version in the UK is Maserati's passive aggressive way of letting them know that they drive on the wrong side of the road.
Said it before but Harry but you've found the perfect formula for your videos here. Love the fact that the videos aren't over edited and we get a real feel of what life is like with these cars. Great work.
+Liam Beeson-Clune - You're joking surely?! I hate SUV's with a passion but this is actually one of the better ones to look at. How can this be the most horrific SUV on the planet when the BMW X6 or the X4 exist?! These 2 abominations are the most hideous car designs ever commissioned barring the 1st gen Fiat Multipla and the Chrysler PT Cruiser. It's substantially better to look at than a Range Rover Evoque or any of the other Range Rover products tbh. It looks hundred times nicer in the flesh than a Jaguar F Pace. Compared to a Gran Turismo or Ghibli it's not great but compared to some of the above, it's like a super model.
Alex J gotta disagree range rovers look great on the road with good road presence same with the f pace it looks sporty ..but this look neither very boring..agree with the BMW comment tho
I've seen one of these in blue, parked up around Hyde Park. There is nothing about the Levante which stands out. It just doesn't look premium enough for the price, both inside and out.
Each to there own at the end of the day, this is my personnel opinion of this SUV i agree others are horrid as well. If anyone is offended by this comment you probably shouldn't be aloud on the internet.
Classic Harry´s work, brilliant ideas, very clear and direct to what really matters to the viewer. Loved that "red calipers makes you go a little faster".
I saw one of these in Cirencester a few weeks back, looks good in the flesh, I wonder if it was you driving, it was dusk so I couldn't see the driver! I thought it was an Infinity at first until I saw the badge! Great review as usual Harry. cheers tony
future62 Just because a car is cheap doesn't mean it has to look bad. Look at the fiat 500. It looks better than most of the dreary stuff on the road today.
Erik Simonelli Like I said nothing wrong with the Cactus... but I don't want my 50k car to look like a 15k economy car, no matter how good the economy car looks. Not a difficult concept
The Cactus is one of the best looking hatches on sale - great looking thing. If this Maserati looked half as good as the Citroen it'd be successful. As it is, it's hideous.
Maseratti has lost their styling edge. They used to look so sharp and different. Now their cars look to rounded and generic with a sprinkling of Maseratti bits. Not to mention the fiat parts bin stuff inside
I sometimes put on Harry's videos and cook my family a three course meal. It's amazing how relaxing and informative these videos are. Stunningly superb.
G'day Harry. Wonderful to see you more often! You're my favourite car reviewer by far and I'm sure I'm not the only one who enjoys your truly informative, insightful and entertaining car content.
I would never be able to afford Harry’s shoes 👟 never mind some of those fantastic machines but I’m glad someone like Harry does cause he don’t half do a good review.
Thats a comprehensive and honest review. One thing though: The Levante does NOT directly compete with F-Pace and macan (D-segment) but with the upcoming J-Pace, RangeRover Sport, chayenne and so forth (E-segment). A kerb wheight above 2 tons and a 0 to 60 time of 7 sec, with the standard issue 3.0 diesel, are pretty much standard in this class. So no wrongdoing of the Maser here...
I heard that Land Rover where venturing in to the two seater low slung sports car market. Using a modern development of the Lotus Europa with a 6 litre W12 engine based on the Rover K series.! Interestingly the whole rear of the car comes off,and it comes with small seats above each rear wheel, so mechanics can get comfy whilst doing headgaskets repairs. It's even going to have cup holders in the engine bay.happy days.
I love your content, Harry! Loved the magazine growing up and its a pleasure to see you online still giving great insights! Now, let's get a Regera. :)
Great detailed review. I appreciate your honesty regarding the various pros/cons of this vehicle. Many other reviewers appear uncomfortable providing this sort of unbiased approach. I think most viewers want this from a review though.
As always, thanks for the video. For your info, the radiator shutters at 2:14 are standard on almost all new cars now (even my 6 year old Focus has them) and are generally referred to as a Kysor Shutter.
My curiousity peaked. I went and attempted to spec one out. Before taxes but with the options I wanted (some of which should be already included at this level of the game) the damn thing came out to 108G's Cdn. That's before taxes, fees and what not. If I was in the market for an SUV and I had that type of cash to blow, I would go for a Tesla instead. I wish Maserati all the best. Great to see a legendary marquee attempt new segments.
I've said it before but I swear your accent is like a perfect mix of Jeremy Clarkson and James May.. it's like you must have lived in both of the places they did or something..do you know those guys?
Think about it this way. Porsche today is an SUV manufacturer, who also make sports cars. And without the SUVs the brand would probably be dead or at least seriously struggling.
fundiver198 yes, but that's an SUV that drives like a Porsche, and has the build quality and interior of a Porsche. Not a re-badged FCA parts bin special.
+Joe Tacchino You are missing the point. Many people hated the Cayenne, when it came out thinking, that Porsche should never build such a vehicle. But it gave the company profits, which it could use also for improving its sports cars. And if Maserati is going to have a future and be able to build great cars, they need sales and profits. Its as simple as that. And globally there is just much more sales in SUVs than in sportscars or high end limousines like the Quattroporte. If you dont like the brand and wish for it to have a future, why are you even watching and commenting on this video? If you would rather own a Porsche, then fine, good for you, buy a Porsche. But we are some, who find, that the car world would be a bit boring, if only the german manufacturers were present in the premium segment.
X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X I think it is ok lookwise ,at least in the front, the rear is anonimous and meh.. you know what is NOT ok? the alfa stelvio, that, is a horrible abomination that should not exist especially since there's the levante out there.
Yeah just like Jaguar jumped into the game as well. I believe they sold more F-Paces in it's first month of sales than the entire Jaguar line-up. I'm glad Maserati jumped into the SUV market as well... not only does it look beautiful (in my opinion) but it's a smart move on their part... because they know not everyone can afford their higher end cars like the Quattroporte or the GranTurismo.. not that this SUV is exactly cheap ( in the US) but it's better than paying 100k+ for the other models. Honestly once I get my degree and the vehicle I have no completely dies, I will probably look at a Levante,F-Pace, or Cayenne/Macan. All 3 look great in my opinion, the only downside is for the price of a base Levante I could get a maxed out F-Pace.
Maserati needs to make itself the Italian Porsche ... and this is what it needs ... but it needs it when Maserati is much more on people's radar ... Maserati need a Boxster / Cayman rival before it can start moving forwards again ... the Ghibli and Quattroporte are good cars, but the brand is what needs work now ...
BMW 5 series has motorisesd flaps to cover the radiator too :) although they only have smaller kidney grills at front so less chance of debris hitting radiator.
Great videos Harry, you have such a great place to test cars like this. It looks out of place on the rough stuff, it also looks like a Nissan Qashqai from the back. Would never choose this over the F - Pace 3.0 Diesel or for the money the New Discovery.
Somehow, all the great automotive companies started to produce the ghastly SUV , in order to cope with the market..Hence you see Bentley, Jaguar, Porsche, etc....Come on chaps leave this to the good old Landy and produce what you are good at...Proper super/GT cars... Cheers .
Manufactures are only moving into the SUV sector because that seems to be what most premium buyers want today. At least this Levante is heavily biased to good on-road performance, the handling really was very good for this type of car. Thanks for watching
Uhm, hate to be the one but in 2013 it was confirmed that the Lamborghini Urus will come for late 2017/2018. These cars are often the only thing that keeps large sportscar makers afloat. Porsche was pretty much saved by the sales success of the Cayenne in 2002-2004. So try to see them as a neccessary evil. :)
Mick Wrinkles I know... I know...From Miura to an SUV...guess I will not be surprised if the market and sales call it to start with tractors again... Enjoy life ! Cheers
Last week on Harry's garage: Transporting Champagne and a boat engine in a Ferrari. This week on Harry's garage: Drifting a Maserati in a field on the English country side. Next week on Harry's garage: ????
Another excellent video Harry. I do like your modern car reviews, but i prefer your old car ones more though. The history of them and styles you just cant have anymore. That said though, ill look forward to your next video, whatever it may be. You have a cool job!
I’m actually quite impressed with the sound. I’ve got a 3.0 V6 turbo diesel Q5 and it sounds…like a diesel all the time. Loads of power, loads of pull and pretty good economy, but the sound never gets better than a refined tractor.
Loving your work as always! (reading / watching since Performance Car Magazine, EVO issue #1). With shots from around your farm I wondered if you could get some really nice footage of off-roaders sliding around fields or cars threading through trees using a camera drone. Just a thought :)
Well Harry, I always enjoy your videos. Your presentation and style is one of, if not the best in the buisness. I'd like to see you upload a few videos a week. I look forward to viewing the next one!
I bet the neighbors are thinking, "there goes that hoonigan Harry drifting his Maserati around the bottom 40 again..." :) I'd like to hear Harry's thoughts on how it compares with a Range Rover Sport, BMW X5 and a few others that fall into the same price point and performance characteristics.
I agree Harry a twin turbo would change the car. A small turbo to enable free revving from lowdown, then the larger turbo coming in at the higher rev band with the power. I find this combo can give diesel engines a petrol feel. The BMW 123d did this brilliantly giving it big torque with fast revving and impressive performance.
The maserati levante is the best car (suv) I believe that the 15 inch footwell you are correct and its also a bit tight between the steering wheel and the foot pedals as the center of the chair is the brake paddle rather than the gas paddle Instead of discussing the car complicatedly generally i would like to say that is a complete suv in terms of look, stabilization , chassis , safety , offroad , onroad Your youtube channel is very discuss full and with less words you have gave to us (the viewers) a complete view of the car you want to describe to us ( the maserati levante )
Great real-world review, Harry. I see a lot of people are abhorred by a diesel SUV wearing a trident badge. I'm trying to be philosophical about it; I recognise the business case for an SUV is too strong for Maserati to ignore. Hopefully it will make the company so much money they can afford to build other cars that do their racing heritage justice. ... still wish it was more of a looker.
Great review - so detailed, intelligent and comprehensive. You just don't get this anywhere else in these post-print days. (Supercar Classics is sorely missed.) You've probably nailed the conundrum of the design brief for this car: Firstly, it needs to translate the essence and virtues of a Maserati to an SUV (a paradox) that could even be diesel powered (an anathema). Secondly, it needs to be a credible off-roader but still be a sporty Maserati on-road even though 90% of the buyers couldn't care less about either. (They just need lots of logos and a big price tag as they drive it around on shopping trips.) That said, I still feel Maserati may want to host a link to your brilliant field test on their website, LOL! (I once did something even more lurid in a mate's 911 Carrera and he complained he got a massive bill for hosing down the mud and grass from all the crevices in the undercarriage. Wonder if the ride height adjusters saved the Levante from a similar problem?) Looking forward to finding out if the Stelvio has an 18" footwell and great connectivity....
