My dad used to watch this to when he was alive when I was a little boy I enjoyed watching all the old shows with him such great memories yeah a lot of us have great memories like that from way back in the day I love that I can see these old shows from my youth on RU-vid
Just to give you an idea how big MASH was : The final episode in 1983 was watched by almost half the US population at the time. 40 years later and it's still the largest number of people ever to have watched a prime-time television episode.
RIP to all the cast members who have passed away. Col. Blake, Frank, Col. Potter, Kellye, Father Mulcahy, Flagg, Trapper, Sidney, and Charles. Its gonna be so sad when Alan Alda passes away. 😔
My favorite part of the intro was watching the nurses running full blast. You gotta understand I was a teenager back then, LOL. The lady at the front of the pack running is astoundingly beautiful, and I have her face imprinted on my brain forever.
Exactly the same here, can't explain it. 14 years old and I absolutely loved her! Thought I was the only one!!! Her name is Kathy Fradella (Baker). For years I thought of her and only in 'Lockdown' did I find out who she is! I'm 70 years old now. Damn she is so pretty.
Golden age of TV. I was very young but my grandparents, who I lived with at the time in the late 70s/early 80s, watched MASH and had me watch it too. I didn't understand much, but grew up watching it and learning. TV used to bring us together and tell us history with our stories. I miss those days.
Reminds me of spending the night at my Grandma's house on the weekends as a kid, and we would be able to stay up past our bedtime. All piled up on the floor, with my siblings and cousins. The nostalgia! 🥺❤️
Can't remember the exact years, probably late 80s-early 90s, but I remember my dad used to watch this sometimes when I was growing up. Even back then and without the lyrics I thought it was a sad song. That and it was time to go to bed.
@@Ffollies Same, it was like the "time for bed" song for a generation. And yeah, it was years later to a gif of Knuckles singing that I found out how fucked the lyrics were.
I was 4 years old when M.A.S.H was first shown on tv am 54 years old and I still watch it on dvd series the 70s and 80s tv is still better than the new stuff
Yes sir I appreciate the eras of the classics. I can’t stand watching some of new shows. It’s all a joke or just weird. The casts now days don’t got that charm or class the shows from our past has, just has that IT factor.
@@harrodsongs Correct, and as result of it being played at the beginning of every episode of the series Altman's son made more money from M*A*S*H than he did.
Like Taxi and Hill Street Blues this theme has a great melancholy and somber yet sections of brightness in it. I feel like this theme is just a perfect song to go to sleep to.
The shows of my early childhood. I can remember those being on TV all the time and all 3 were kid repellent. Time to go outside and play or to go to bed one of the two.
As a little kid, as soon as I saw the start of this intro at my grandparents house, I knew it was boring time. As a teenager though, I got really into it. I would always hope Alan Alda would crack up laughing because I always thought that was the funniest part of the show.
I was born in 1977. I think by the time I was aware of anything this tv show had ended, but the reruns never stopped. I've never seen a single episode, but I find the opening theme song very depressing. The dark graininess of the show is also depressing to me.
Jamie Farr was from my hometown. He holds a PGA tournament that's nationally televised at the golf course in my neighborhood callrd the Jamie Farr Classic. Inverness Golf Club in Toledo Ohio.
I met him at a convention last year and mentioned I went to the park named after him when I was in Toledo. When I told him I drove cross-country with my dog, he said, “Your dog peed in my park?!” 😂 Such a sweet guy.
This is my favorite Mash intro...the nurses running towards the wounded... especially the blonde grimacing... always touched me and always will....Americana to the marrow... Eric Underwood class of 81 Downey High School California
At 6 years old this used to wake me up when i fell asleep on my grandparents couch. The card game would end and my parents would carry me out to Van half awake to go home. What prcious memories this theme song invokes! Simply Iconic!
Yes, season 6. The first season with the reshot helicopter air scenes at the beginning (when MASH comes on the screen) and after the ambulance in the middle of the theme.
Grew up watching this as a kid in the 80s. Saw the movie around the same time. Lol even had the video game on the TI-994A. Then when I turned 18 I joined the Navy and spent the next 4 years on a Marine Amphibious Command ship going on a couple of deployments that turned into “foreign combat operations” in the Gulf, Indonesia, as well as East Africa. The whole time I thought….this is just like MASH. 😆
I'm watching MASH reruns right now on MEtv while vacationing up near the Canadian border in the Thousand Islands on the St. Lawrence river. I always loved those women running in the opening. Somebody needs to put that in slow motion for me.
This makes me cry 😢 and get happy inside! I remember sneaking in the house and my Tv was on in my room and this was always playing when I would get there so I knew I was over curfew!! The good old day’s 😢😢😢😢😢
Yep, and we still get paid less than the doctors, but we do all the work. We ask for the specific order, and the doctor makes twice as much to write or say, "yes". 😋 Oh, well. We have twice the knowledge at half the cost, so I guess it's even. For all of the MDs and DOs, it's a joke. I'm 50, and I am an old school nurse. Sadly, work ethic, caring, and compassion are falling by the wayside in healthcare now.
Mixed feelings with this one. It makes me smile and a little sad. I'm sitting between my auntie and uncle watching the opening credits to this before falling asleep.
Back when I was a kid on Sundays when you thought you were getting a second NFL game and this came on you just went outside and walked around aimlessly.
I’ve seen this theme song so many times when I was younger. My dad loved it so much that this song is forever ingrained in my memory. Now I’m 19 and I’m gonna watch it all for the first time in my life so this will be a good time
Born in 1972 and I absolutely hated MASH as a little boy, but absolutely loved the theme song and intro. My favorite part is when the ladies are running so hard to get to the chopper. It's such a moving and serious scene to begin such a slap stick comedy. It was enough that my parents and all the adults seemed to like the show and we watched it a lot, so I saw many episodes and did like some of them, especially guys like Clinger and Radar. I was too young to appreciate it but I always knew that MASH was a quality show with quality actors that I would probably appreciate one day. Still gives me shivers when I see those ladies running to get the chopper in the intro.
I rarely watched this tv show but my dad and brothers did . It was always on after the 10 o’clock news on fox11 . Time for bedtime. Childhood memories ❤
@@austinjazz56 The shots that actually come before the running nurses, was used in the episode "Sticky Wicket", so all 5 of the nurses were in that episode.
I remember when I was a kid laying down on the bunk bed,At night when this came on I would get up and change it, I've never seen the full intro until i was a grown up,the sound of it made my eyes water and made me say i wish I was there again because I'm the only one left, mom dad brother passed.
Cheers, MASH, Hill Street Blues and St Elsewhere theme tune song always brings back memories of staying up past my bedtime on the sofa w my parents growing up in the 80s...and I live in the UK!!!
6pm each night, early on you couldn’t get me to watch it as I got older. Mom explained to me the show and the meaning behind the show. Now it’s a touchstone
Never once watched an episode but this music still brings back memories of me staying with my uncle a couple times a year when my family would visit and I’d be on an air mattress in the living room and I’d hear this song coming from his room as he grew up in the 70’s and loves M.A.S.H
I just recently lost my dad this past Saturday. And he was a Vietnam triage nurse. And this was his favorite show. Because I guess it dealt he saw and everytime I saw the ambulance go by. And me and my brother would say that's dad I'm going to miss him alot
I find myself coming back to watch this video at least once a week, and its ironic because when i was a kid i used to get so mad whenever i saw mash was on, because i knew when ever it came on, i had to go to bed for school the next day, but now its like part of my childhood, brings back so many memories i forgot about...
The ladies in this scene, right here is my favorite scene of this series. They were running so fast and they were all physically fit soldiers. And nurses. Ill never forget this scene. Real women running like hell to save someone. Just don't see this today. Nowadays, women run to you like this to cut your whole life off.
The human mind is a remarkable entity, capable of evoking profound memories and associations through seemingly insignificant stimuli. For instance, merely witnessing the initial moments of a television show's introduction can trigger a flood of nostalgic recollections from one's childhood. Although I personally did not follow the television series "MASH" nor have I ever watched a single episode, it nevertheless forms an integral part of my childhood memories.
When I was a kid this song meant it was time to get up. My mom and I would watch this before we had to get ready to go to school and work. Such wonderful memories.
Hearing this always reminds me of days off from school, when I’d go over my Mommom’s house for the day because Mom had to work. My uncle who’s a vet would watch this. That always meant time to break out the Simon Says game, a book, or some cards to play Solitaire! Lol Whatever I was doing, I wasn’t watching this show! Lol But the theme music always brings me warm memories. 💛
I've been totally in love with the front running brunette nurse for the past 50 years since I was 14 years old. 1 second and I knew... 3 marriages later I just know I was right!! Little make up, hair back, army fatigues and boots.. who needs Kim Kardashian?
One night when I was little, we were all sitting in front of the TV watching "M*A*S*H" a few years after it ended and I remember my mom pointing out to me everybody running between 0:25 and 0:31. I just thought it was real cool seeing them run like that even though I didn't know they had wounded soldiers coming in and they needed their lives saved.
My dad loves this show and it's what kept him going in the Army. I realize that soldiers are better people because what doesn't kill makes them stronger. I support them.
Never watched a full episode EXCEPT for the last one. That one really tore me up even without watching the series. Seeing how all the characters went their own way after living life together was sad to see and masterfully done.
