Whenever something unexpected flies over, such as a random helicopter or low flying plane, I always say it must've been a big red bird with fuzzy pink feet. I'm beyond thrilled when someone gets the reference.
Lt. Colonel Blake: You never know who might be coming around! Cpl. Maxwell Q. Klinger : Yes, sir! Henry: Boy, oh boy, oh boy! ! You gotta stay on top of these guys every minute!
I like to imagine that the writers would decide they wanted Klinger to try something crazy to get out in the next episode then call up Jamie to ask about weird things he had heard of guys trying in order to get home.
What I love watching in this whole sequence is Jamie Farr's delivery of a master class in physical comedy: the exaggerated warm-up exercises, the loping jog to the edge of the cliff, his peering into the distance and sweeping view from side-to-side, the facial expressions. The set-up for the gag is what really sells it, building up the tension until the payoff of Klinger's takeoff and flight.
Thankfully the powers that be made Jaime Farr and Maxwell Q. Klinger a permanent part of MASH! So many memories of his antics AND outfits. I'm still laughing all these years later! 🤣🤣
I love all of Klinger's heists (: Eating a jeep, having an invisible camel, becoming a gypsy, pole-sitting, pouring "gasoline" all over himself, speaking only lebanese, faking being a civilian, faking the death of his whole family, pretending to have 12 children...
The episode with the invisible camel and speaking only Lebanese I think was in the same episode where he faked getting hit by the chopper...lol. The episode, I believe was called "Dear Sigmund"
@@geoffwilliams4478 actually his depression ruse was the closest, Potter was just about to sign the discharge papers when Klinger started dancing and singing, proving he wasn't really depressed
That scene had me laughing from the time the glider took off and till it went back to the trail scene. So many funny episodes, but this one I will not forget anytime soon, just because of this scene.
The dog tags Jamie Farr wore in MASH were his real dog tags he wore when he served in the real Korean War. Thank you so much for your service to our country, Jamie Farr.
It just does not get better than this!...love the Klinger moments.."stars of the silver screen"..walking into the Swamp, flipping his boa around his neck..proclaiming.."What a dump!"...and storming out in pure drama...
I remember the unit had to bug out and Klinger donated all of Klinger Collection dresses to the hookers so the MASH could have their Bldg for a hospital.Colonel Potter told him he wished he could recommend him for a medal. He said to Klinger," That's the greatest act of bravery I ever saw son."
Just saw this, a neighbor of a friend we were visiting came out to talk and when he saw the hang gliders on my truck...he made reference to Klinger on MASH...I had to look it up! Funny! I had seen MASH before, but never this episode.
My dad was like an oak board. He never laughed or broke a smile, but I remember when this episode came out. I was about six or seven, and I clearly remember my dad literally falling off the couch laughing.
@@geoffwilliams4478 My quote actually came from that episode. "Change day" was its name if memory serves me correctly. Your quote came from an earlier episode.
Rewatching this episode last night I was laughing so hard I started crying this is one of the funniest things ever. How fake it looks plus the fact that he is just hanging loosely kills me 😂
Hawkeye*looks up at the sky while still kissing the nurse* Klinger still Gliding Over The MASH unit Hawkeye*stop kissing the nurse* Hawkeye: did you see that? Nurse:see what?*looks up at the sky Hawkeye: a big red bird with fuzzy pink feet. Trapper* comes walking up with a nurse with his arm wrap around her Trapper: hey Hawk did you see that? Hawkeye and the nurse* starts kissing again Trapper and his nurse* leaves*
I have to admit it was an interesting idea but the hang glider did not have the right equipment and there was no way he was going to make it out of Korea
I hope y’all will reply to this Klinger was one of my favorite characters on M*A*S*H* along with Hawkeye Radar Father Francis John Patrick Mulcahy Trapper John McIntyre Margaret “Hot Lips” Houlihan and BJ Hunnicutt
I also hope y’all will reply to this in a video that was all about Klinger in the comment section someone guessed after the war Max (that was Klinger’s first name) became a clothing designer back in the States after the war
No, the show is based on a real war that happened in the 50's and some of their episodes were about real situations that happened during the war. The antics in this show also is a possibility that happened around at the real MASH units.
