How to mask and paint your own Japanese markings on a scale model plane - you will never use decals again! The Japanese hinomaru (round red marking) on WW2 aircraft is the easiest masking job possible, and with a little extra weathering it will look a million times better than any model kit decal available. I did it on my 1/32 Kawanishi "George" model, and was tremendously happy with the results. Try it, it's easy!

Fantasy piece but amazing. “What if” camo schemes are great as long as you don’t over do it. Love it.

Do you think for decals it would come out well if I just painted it ? ( I have no airbrush). Also what paints do you use ?
@DavesModelWorkshop

Hi Polish Mafia, it would be a lot harder to stop the paint bleeding under the mask if you were painting with a brush rather than an airbrush. I wouldn't recommend it. And the paints I use are Tamiya enamels.

lovely work. I will try this on my japanese plane (but in 1/72..:( ) But on 6:33 wldnt you want to affect the propeller nose a bit more ? It is missing a "sandblasted" look, so to speak...

Just for reference model pilots . I went to kmart and bought a bag of small soldiers for a few dollars then I cut thin strips of ordinary buff masking tape and stuck it on the model and the crease lines fall in just the right places i.e elbows and knees then paint your colour as reqd .

Dave, great video as per, but can I ask what is your favourite kit type? Tanks, Planes or anything else? Keep up the good work buddy.

Thanks Allan. I think over time I've done about 50% armour in 1/35, and 50% WW2 fighters in 1/32 scale. I don't have aclear favourite between the two, but as of right now I'm definitely in the middle of an armour preference that has lasted for the last year or so. Cheers, Dave

Would you tell me how much the circle cutter cost and is there any larger ones for 1.4 scale planes cheers Tony
@DavesModelWorkshop
@DavesModelWorkshop 7 лет назад
Hi Beryl, my circle cutter cost about $10 from memory. I've looked on Amazon and you can pick one up from $5-6. I don't know if there are larger ones, but the one I have can extend to a maximum diameter of about 20cm. Cheers, Dave

Ouch, $40 is a lot to pay. Have you looked on Amazon or ebay? The good thing is once you guy one you'll be using it for years and years. Good luck Tony, D

Nice model , but the Japanese ground cres would never allow the hinamaru to remain chipped , they would touch it up with red paint out of respect to the emperor. The rest of the plane might look like crap but not the hinamaru
@jollyrodger5319
@jollyrodger5319 5 месяцев назад
They always fix the bullet hole in them as well as a form of respect for the emperor . But anyways I love the look of it and good job 👍 on the clipping

Kinda over did it on the salting weathering effect. Too much blotchy effect which is really evident on the drop tank.
