Destroy ending, because I didn't fight *through 3 whole games* to get the job unfinished.
@Pikkabuu
@Pikkabuu 9 лет назад
Pablo Cid If you choose the Destroy-ending you do leave the job unfinished. The underlying problem in the whole series is that synthetic and organic life cannot understand each other and so will fight a war in the future that either kills the other or both. Resolving this conflict is your job in the games. And as the Reapers were one solution to the problem (By preventing any life from advancing so far that they could initiate the final conflict.), so by destroying the Reapers you allow life to advance further and so be able to initiate the conflict in the future.
@lMobiuscidl
@lMobiuscidl 9 лет назад
Pikkabuu 1) Peace between Geth and Quarians achieved. 2) No, your main mission is to destroy the Reapers, the "organic vs synthetic" thing is introduced at the very end of ME3 with star-kid, which is not a convincing argument.
@Pikkabuu
@Pikkabuu 9 лет назад
Pablo Cid 1) That is something you need to work for and you can finish the game without doing it. Also brokering a peace now doesn't mean that they will remain in peace forever. 2) The theme has been part of the whole series. It is only at the end that it was actually brought up but what happened on the first and second games are still according to that principle. Star-Child acts as a description box for the problem so that everyone will get what the plot is about. So again. If you destroy the Reapers you only postpone your choice and in the future the galaxy has to tackle the same problem again, as you chose not to fix the problem in the first place.
@Pikkabuu
@Pikkabuu 9 лет назад
***** The problem is that there isn't really a way for them to understand each other fully as they are so different fundamentally. And wihtout full understanding the rift and the risk of conflict between synthetic and organic life remains. As for destroying the Reapers allows a natural solution. Well isn't that what Shepard is doing at the end? He is making the choice alone and not by Reapers will? He is allowed to choose how to fix the problem, or not to fix, or not to choose.
@BattlefireTV
@BattlefireTV 9 лет назад
Pikkabuu I chose destroy because it just made more sense to me. The Reapers have always ended cycles and I felt that needed to end. That was my goal sense Mass Effect 1 and I didn't want all the sacrifice to be in vain. I also doubt Synthetics and Organic will ever be at peace. I knew that there will be another conflict in the future because of the choice I made. But really I think that is what the universe is about. Things need to happen again.

The Krogan are cured - which means they will reproduce explosively and begin to expand. Even with Eve and Wrex, they won't be able to keep a lid on things forever. They're both old by Krogan standards, and Grunt isn't exactly a peacful guy. And the next in line to lead the Krogan (Wrex's brother) is a war hawk. The Geth and EDI get fucked by this ending - all current synthetic life is cucked And eventually, just like the billions of times before, organic life will create a new synthetic life, a new AI - and it will go wrong, and without Shepard to be there to broker peace, it will go exactly the way the Geth would've gone, or worse. And synthetic life will wipe out organic life - like it always does. A reaper by any other name is still the fucking robots killing us all. Destroy is the worst ending. The only thing this ending does is take the safety off the gun that the universe will use to blow its brains out.

Funny that the three choices ending represent the three major characters. Control represents The Illusive Man and his desire to control the Reapers and use them for humanity's further evolution, only for him to become a puppet to the Reapers. This ends up bad on one side because if your Shepard was a Renegade you become a tyrant who brings on forced peace onto a galaxy. Synthesis represents Saren, who wanted to bond with the Reapers believing that it's the only way to save the galaxy and spare them. Only once again to be use as a puppet by the Reapers. This is so-so because you gave the Catalyst what it wanted and didn't truly defeat the Reapers. And this ending, the Destroy ending represents Captain Anderson, who was a solider to the very end, the man who stood by you til the very end while people like Udina and Cerebrus betrayed you and the galaxy for their own gain, and desire to save the galaxy by getting the job done. He was never corrupted and died as himself as a true hero. This is considered to be closest ending to get to a true ending, as it's hinted that Shepard survived and the Mass Relays and Citadel are being rebuilt forging a way to a new game.

I understand everyone was pissed off at the original ending. But the truth of every hero's story is sacrifice. And here, Shepard isn't just sacrificing himself, he is sacrificing the future he could have had with anyone. But that is what life is. Everything has an ending and every hero has to die, including you - the player. This game kind of ends with a question, how are you going to live your life now that you know even the hero of the story has to die?

I like this ending the most as well, because its what the mission was set to do, and its what people lost their lives for. I completely lost it when Liara (in my case) placed his name on the wall above Anderson's. God knows how many tissues I just used... This game was a great series. The atmosphere was so beautiful and different, the social interactions and relationships seemed special compared to any other game, and the story-driven campaign was entirely different and unique. There is a lot more to the game that I can say but I think the three Mass Effect games were (are) one of the best game series of all time, and I'm an Elder Scrolls guy and Halo guy. The ending was extremely sad but was an excellent way to tie up the series, although I did wish I could live happily ever after alone with Liara somewhere far away from anyone or anything else. I felt the Destroy ending was the only logical ending. Controlling the Reapers made me feel dirty, and Synthesis was essentially something forced on everyone. As the Star Child said, Synthesis is not something that can be forced. It has to come of their own volition. Having Shepard initiate Synthesis as he did was forcing an issue that shouldn't have happened. Control makes me think of what the Illusive man wanted to do. Dominion over another race, and that is not acceptable. Which leads to destruction. Yes all AI are destroyed, but you know what? I'm willing to bet there are back ups of back ups on the Geth and EDI. And it's not terribly hard to reboot or repair tech. That said Destroy is logically the most ideal conclusion.

The weight of risk and reward was what Bioware wanted the players to measure. And the reasons for NOT choosing the other endings makes the ending you choose have more meaning to it. Just like choosing not go Renegade in the series makes you feel so much better when you go Paragon.

All you said is true, believe me, i ve put tons of thoughts about the ending of Mass Effect, Destroy is the only way to go, preferably with a high ems and galactic readiness more than %50. High EMS destroy ending with Geth Quarian peace and Genophage cured is the true moral ending to that game, İ am 100 percent sure of this. People entitled to their own opinions but in truth the one who did not cured the genophage and who did not solve the Geth Quarian conflict and who chose Control, Synth or Refusal endings has LİTERALLY NO CLUE WHAT MASS EFFECT WAS ALL ABOUT. Lucifecdesrea, thanks, i even go further and claim that Mass Effect Trilogy was intended to be more than a game really. İt was made in such a way, you felt you're being educated, in a non biased way, on an objective perspective. Outer level of perception of it seems to be neutral, and this has achieved in such a flawless way, but as you think through it, as you get deeper in it, you kind a feel, there is something else writers wants us to see... Like a true classic novel, or a movie, it educates, it elevates people who are open minded, and able to overcome their dogmas. MASS EFFECT Trilogy is more than just a game series. İ ve played truck loads of games in over 20 years, never seen such a beauty, such an expression of what it means being human, such a masterpiece of an art form. İ really kinda believe Mass Effect may very well be some kind of a social experiment. Given that MAss Effect 3 needs players to be online at least for once entering the game, Bioware can easily analyze people's end choices. İ started suspecting that, because the game is so intense, felt so real, and just questioning every dilemma, every problem human race has faced throughout its very existence. And no offense to anyone but i really felt scared when i realized hom many people chose the way to some form of fascism ( in the form of control or synth, no matter what they are the same at the very heart, in an ideological stand point. ) represented us with control or synt. Those two are the decoys, ruses, tricks, to make the player believe a totalitarian fake UTOPİA is the way to go... Especially Synth, is monstrous, such a horrible way to go. Any decent human being should be able to see the horrors of choosing control or synt, or the stupidness of refusal ending. This little software version of whats going on on the earth for years may be very well be the indicator of what is to come. İn a metophoric way, those things happen in every country around the globe, and eventually it will come to this in some way. We will be asked, we will be indoctrinated by the time they ask, by the time they offer us ( the nations of the world ) a so called utopia in a false sense of infinite peace, happiness and freedom. And if we the people could not see the ruse, if we give our instutional rights away for the sake of a world goverment ( it will come to this eventually ) if we fall to the UTOPİA lie, it will be nothing less than choosin SYNTHESİZE in the end... İ think Mass Effect literally warns us in a covert way, metophorically or analyzing the youth around the world who plays it. Just my thoughts... Peace. :)

*Destroy Ending* The reapers are wiped out for good, and the threat is gone forever. Your mission is accomlished, and if your diplomatic skills were good enough, it paid off in the end, as Shepard survives with high EMS. Con: All synthetic lifeforms are also gone, which means that the geth and EDI are no more. But as Hacket put it: we can rebuild everything that was destroyed, it will take time. Ultimately though, this was the best ending of all 4 possibilities, and you pretty much do what Anderson wanted: Getting rid of the Reapers. *Control Ending* You are now the new essence of the catalyst, and you have replaced Harbinger as the leader of the Reapers. While Shepard may have control over the reapers now and can call them off, who knows when Shepard will give into all the tempting, yet dirty, possibilities of being a reaper god? You basically start the cycle all over again. By doing this, you pretty much fulfill the visions of the illusive man: control over the reapers. *Synthesis Ending* By merging organic and synthetic life, you have done exactly what Saren always wanted: mixing all organics with synthetics. The reapers are not defeated, and as every organic becomes partly synthetic, you are basically becoming slaves of the reapers. And isn't it a bit extreme for ONE MAN to decide that all organic life must be merged with synthetic? This is pretty much taking all free will from organic life. *Refusal Ending* This is even worse than control and synthesis. You are basically just saying "damn, forget it, I don't want this, I can't. Sorry. You are giving up everything you fought so hard for, sacrificed so much to for, and went through hell and back several times. Even the catalyst seems terribly disappointed by the decision, as he shuts down the catalyst and just lets Shepard watch the entire foces of the galaxy die for nothing because shepard just chose to quit at the last minute. From best to worst: Destroy > Control > Synthesis > Refusal I only consider Destroy ending to be a good/paragon ending, while Synthesis and Control seems highly renegade, while Refusal just seems pathetic and weak.

The refusal ending is a big fuck you, but other than that, I am satisfied with how the Extended Cut DLC improved the endings.

I believe in the indoctrination theory so I agree with you, with this option Shepard wakes in the rubble that the Reaper laser beam made, his skin charred due to heat or maybe his indoctrination is half done and his body chaned, yet his mind is still Shepard, he has won against the indoctrination yet the war is still lost. My main reasoning for that is because of the aliens talking in the control option say that the 'details are lost in time' which means Shepard either 'forgot', something happened to him, or it was all a dream, that Shepard had lost the battle against indoctrination at the end.

@Rosario Manorang Manik EDI was only made a "person" through unshackling her AI. Rebuild the code, reuse the memory drive, and there's no reason she wouldn't live again. Same with the geth. Legion's sacrifice provided the geth autonomy, but they still existed within a shared framework. Assuming you got the quarians and geth to work together, and considering the geth were able to help the quarians exist in maskless society within 2 or so decades, if the quarians revuilt the geth there's no reason why the geth couldn't live again?

I just hope that when the fleets were going to the rendezvous point that the surviving Geth also did the same, cause if the ships were still working as they relied on FTL travel to pick up the people at Earth and send them to their respective planets, and fix relays and such along the way, then it means that this energy wave didn't mess up their ships, so I would assume that with enough distance away from a relay then the Geth wouldn't be affected...I hope that's what happened....but that's not enough to save EDI, it seems the Normandy got his by that blast and EDI died onboard.

@justinshaw9323
@justinshaw9323 10 лет назад
Simple. The Extended Cut fills in some of the bigger plot holes present in the original ending, but it ignores the biggest problem of them all. The whole premise of the ending is flawed. Throughout the entire series, we are never given any reason to believe that there is some sort of innate, unavoidable conflict between organics and synthetics that will inevitably lead to the genocide of all organic life. In fact, everything we've experienced goes against that. The Geth did not rebel against the Quarians. The Quarians tried to destroy them, and in turn the Geth defended themselves and drove them into exile when they could have driven them into extinction. Then, in Mass Effect 2, the Geth ally themselves with Shepard in order to stop the Reapers, who want to destroy all organic life. Finally, in Mass Effect 3, the Geth agree to peace with the Quarians, who had just been trying to kill them, without any fuss. So much for the Catalyst's murderous, genocidal synthetics. And let's not forget EDI. Point is, Bioware ignored everything they'd established up until the Starchild appeared to make up some BS motivation for the Reapers, a motive that makes absolutely no sense and goes against everything we'd seen during the series. .

There is a lot of moral ambiguity in these games. There are not many options that are necessarily right or wrong, entirely good or bad per se. I played through the trilogy twice, once as paragon and once as renegade and Shephard comes across well either way. I chose this ending as a renegade because it just suited that Shephard. Synthesis gives them that same freedom, doofus. With the Destroy ending - EDI and Geth die - Krogan expand and go back to doing the shit that got them the genophage in the first place (synthesis gives them understanding of other species and peace) - Galaxy lives in war and Mordin's sacrifice was for nothing - eventually, AI will kill all the organics (like has happened every single time before the reapers started doing their thing) which wouldnt happen if you pick synthesis - Quarians are basically doomed - without the Mass Relays and galactic infrastructure, they have to rely on nature and whatever planets they crash on. Quarians cannot survive planetside (Synthesis makes all organic life immune to disease, so Quarians can return to home planet immediately) The only downside to Synthesis is that everyone gets green glowy eyes - which is only bad if you have a problem with green eyes. It said that Shepard would be killed due to their cybernetics, but that turns out to be false. Besides, the Catalyst was what controlled the Reapers in the first place. Remember Saren? The Illusive Man? The Project? All of them did what they did because the Reapers indoctrinated them, their motives stemming from the Reapers misleading them. You know i always thought, what if there were a few reapers that stayed in dark space would they have been affected?

Considering that repurposing the Geth heretics backfired from ME2, who's to say that controlling / repurposing the Reapers wouldn't backfire in a few hundred years from now?

Yes, the endings have the same colors and whatnot. But narratively, they tell very different outcomes for the Milky Way I think if they make another Mass Effect, it's gonna follow the Destroy ending tho

Actually the Stargazer is voiced by someone completely different, TIM is voiced by Martin Shean which is amazing, but the Male Stargazer is voiced by one of the first men to walk on the moon, Buzz Aldrin, not the same....and if you choose not to end the cycle...it's a female Stargazer and a child...

“Can I hear one more story about Shepherd” I have a sneaky suspicion that the old man is indeed Commander Shepherd. In ME 1 in the first couple of missions when you talk to Liara. I remember shepherd saying humans can live up 150yrs if they are lucky. I wouldn’t put it past them if after finding John’s whereabouts to use some of Technology that Cerberus used in the Lazarus project to repair and improve John’s life span if it wasn’t already from ME2

Maybe I didn't invest myself heavily enough into the plot, but when I saw the destroy the reapers option I didn't even think twice. We all smashed those bums for three games so how could you not deal the final blow? The fact that Shepard was the first organic to get that far shows that there may be other solutions to the galaxy's problems. I didn't waste my time playing the games, killing reapers just to try and control them or bond with them. Lol. Can't wait for Andromeda to come out. I just hope they don't use our save games because mine got lost with my last computer. Cheers!

+bbq1040 Because some think beyond the next few minutes. Destroying the Reapers would only put the world back to the road which forced the Leviathans to create Reapers in the first place. So choosing Destroy you don't fix the world but wreck it forcing the same problem to be solved in the future too.

+bbq1040 I wouldn't worry about it. Bioware made Dragon Age Keep because it's very hard to transport saves across consoles so they will make like Mass Effect Archieve or something for ME players.

How can it be the best ending when all the synthetics are destroyed? Yeah, the organics would rebuilt them, but if the Catalyst was right, the synthetics would destroy organics and the cycle would continue. Personally I think the synthesis one is the best.

Selçuk Lale Nobody can set the synthetic life to be friendly. Once their intelligence is near as good as their creators´, they will go rogue against them

MOo8996cz I mean if they don't rebuilt them smart like their creators. This is where they did the mistake. (Im thinking about a red button. That destroys every syntethic life lol)

Selçuk Lale But people tend to forget. Maybe it would take a few hundreds of years but there would always be at least one person that would have the desire to create a better, smarter AI. Then some people would pay for his creation and let other people know abou how great and, of course PROFITABLE idea it is. Just a chain reaction

Control - The Illusive man (indoctrinated) Synthesis - Saren (Also indoctrinated) Destroy - The only true ending, and the only ending Shepard survives. In fact in control and synthesis involves jumping off a platform to your death, and the other involves electrocuting yourself. Destroy involves firing your gun (AKA, not commiting suicide). Hell, the entirety of Mass Effect 3 is about how TIM is indoctrinated, which is why he belives he can control the reapers. We defeated him in just the previous scene. Javik even said they would have succeeded, but a faction in their empire wanted to control the reapers which disrupted their plans. Yet, the game gives us a 180 at the end, and offers us the exact same choice of doing what TIM wanted, why did we even bother fighting him the whole game? Control and Synthesis are both indoctrination, by choosing them Sheapard literally commits suicide, and the Reapers win.

This is the best ending for the franchise and ME 4. There are a lot of great story lines that come from this ending that could be explored in the next game, along with other choices 1. The next Krogan or Rachni War 2. Restoring the Geth 3. Rebuilding the relays 4. Omega as possibly a new superpower (possibly because the black hole omega relay isn't part of the network) 5. The Yahg being uplifted by the salarians next. 6. Plus any number of threats that could come from other galaxies.

My thoughts are plain and simple....Bioware, If it aint broke, don't fix it! We your loyal fans have spent 7 years falling in love with Shepard, and the crew of the Normandy. What do you do? You kill Shepard, and crash the ship, THEN you tell us that The next volume will have nothing to do with this storyline. How dare you! What a kick in the face. When does part 4 come out? I will be the first in line to buy it.

SaltyTestes They said it can take place before or after Shepard's story. So it could be after the Reapers are defeated or while they are still out there. They did say ME4 however would have nothing to do with Shepard at all.

You cannot control what's pulling YOUR strings. And when you merge organics with reaper tech, you get zombies. Husks. You don't get space magic, it's just control with a different tint of light. The only way to win against the Reapers, is to destroy them.
