The explanation the Catalyst gives is that the Crucible suffers more damage in the battle if fewer forces are present. The more damage, the less focused the energy and the more collateral damage.
That`s a toughie. The first ending I chose was refusal. Since, ya know, my instinct in gaming is, "I wonder what would happen if I shot this Starbrat." Of course, at the time I didn`t think it was possible. *Next thing I know, I`m freaking out and laughing at the same time.*
Is it bad that I like this ending better than the others? It seems so much more realistic. Through the whole of the game characters kept saying things like "we're going to lose a lot of people" or "we can't save everyone". I think this ending truly shows the brutal aftermath of the war, but just that last bit of hope for the future.
It might be that with low EMS the Reapers are able to damage the Crucible before its activated affecting how it performs. With low EMS the Reapers halfway wreck it making it a menance to those using it along with the Reapers. With high EMS the Reapers aren't able to do any real damage, allowing it to function properly without catastropic blowback for its users. I believe the Catalyst even references this notion a bit in his exposition scene.
*Casey Hudson finishes playing Deus Ex: Human Revolution.* CH: "Heh, it's kinda cool how he shoots it to trigger the ending. Maybe in my game..." *Gets on the phone with Mac Walters.* CH: "Hey, Mac. Mac? Yeah, it's Casey. Listen, I've got an idea." *Explains the concept.* CH: "What? It makes no sense for him to walk into the thing he's exploding? But it looks cool, right? Good, now about the other two options..."
Another thing to think about is that if you take the time to look around the reaper infested galaxy, you find different technologies and support that improve the Crucible. If you only did the minimum, only the very basics are there and it's plausible that it wouldn't preform the best because of that.
So basically this Vaporize Ending in the Extended Cut combines the Extended Cut and the Normal Game (Without the DLC) Cutscenes, so the Normandy gets destroyed and stuff happens...nice...
Because by this point he probably knows he isn't making it out alive. He's suffered critical injury, can barely stand and is about to be in the center of the biggest release of energy the Galaxy has seen, one that is going to destroy every synthetic lifeform including the cybernetics that keep him alive. What differente does a couple of steps make?
Yes, that is a weird one. It actually starts in the Viper cluster- right that cluster that DOES NOT HAVE A MASS RELAY ANYMORE. It was destroyed by Shepard in the Arrival DLC in ME2 (if not, the 103rd marine division will do it instead).
If you like dramatic endings, why not? It does fit. The Reapers are incredibly powerful, every single one able to wipe out an entire fleet. No species ever even stood a chance against it. Now, all important species of the galaxy unite and make the ultimate sacrifice to destroy that threat for good, to make the difference between the greatest disaster ever known and extinction.
I think the idea is that Shepard is willingly accepting death in order to stop the reapers because she already knows she'll die because of her synthetic implants.
I just went and watched it again and now I remember. He pushed a button, that's correct. It's only implied that he fired his pistol because he whips it out and then one can hear shots in the background afterwards. So you're correct. Still doesn't change the fact that Shepard shouldn't be walking into his/her demise.
I always felt like this is the ending Mass Effect deserves. The entire trilogy you just hear about how fucked you are, and they have this "survival at any cost" theme associated with it. In this ending, most people die. Earth can rebuild, but its left in ruin. The remaining humans and aliens who fought for it will have to live on it, at least until the mass relays get rebuilt. This is by no means a good ending, but it is the one that fits the series the best. Normal destroy and control just feel like a forced way to change the theme of the story, and I'm not even going to go into synthesis's space magic bullshit
well, actually there is things that u can brake to make something activate, like a type of transistor is like a automatic door,if it doesn't have current in one side it will release the electricity, that is normally not able to pass otherwise thru it,or a diod,if a diod brake,it could just make the energy pass thru, meaning if it breaks,it will let the energy pass,so several real life electrical elements would work like that.P.S. the glow stick activates cause of kinetic energy
I think this is kind of the best ending (without spacemagic) because even if many die the reapers did get destroyed without waiting for the next generation and sacrificing all organic life (that happens if you choose to fight the reapers)
Just read again what I wrote. I do not say this will never happen, but there WILL be a time of peace, I think at least a few centuries, as long as the Reaper massacres and destruction are well-remembered. Of course, when everything is rebuild and most people never saw a living reaper, they will eventuelly get bad ideas, but what happens until then is worth the sacrifices.
Plus considering too that your war assets were working together to build the Crucible. More help and brains - a better functioning Crucible to begin with probably.
this ending is a galactic extinction event. with the whole galazy having those explosions wiping out the reapers AND other life forms with a bear lucky few surviving. In all likelihood maybe they can regrow over the many years or maybe they'll die out too.
Another theory is that all the events happen but just that everything post Anderson and the Space Elevator is a mental interface. In control, a keeper would hook your body up for download, take the necessary samples/lob you into the system or send you back down on destroy. Just another GUI in the brain, not with a 3d holograph.
hmmm... according to the indoctrination theory, if you choose control or Synthesis, you will enter the last stage of indoctrination. the dead giveaway is the eyes you get which is the same as TIM and Saren. Destroy is the only way to ressist indoctrination. All those cutscenes when Shepard enters the crucible har just visions.
When the Crucible tries to dock with the Citadel its practically destroyed by the reapers. I guess that made it so it didn't target the reapers exclusively.
It probably constantly tells the Crucible not to kill everyone, everywhere. There's a part of your brain constantly telling you not to shit yourself. When it breaks, you shit yourself. True story.
*Casey Hudson and Mac Walters have their arms folded, glaring about at the writers hard at work on the EC.* Casey: "They're keeping the Ghost of Mass Effect Yet To Come in, right?" Mac: "Not sure....they were saying something about making the end a dream and having the Reapers' purpose being stopping dark energy. Funny, it sounded a lot like what Drew--." Casey: "Mac, how do you feel about threatening people with guns?"
I guess the more armour you got between you and the pretty colours wave, the more likely you survive. That's why those who were in battleships survived, even if the ships were fried, they were able to survive inside. Since synthetics and reapers existence is tied to the shell they reside, then when the shell is fried, they die, whereas those inside ships just got the ship damaged, but they survived since their biology isn't connected to ship electronics unlike Synthetics.
The Effective Military Strength is how powerful the forces you bring to the final fight are. If you have high EMS your fleets are strong and can defend the Crucible. The Crucible takes little damage and only targets synthetics. If your EMS is low, your fleets are unable to effectively protect the Crucible and it takes heavy damage during the approach to the Citadel. The Crucible does not work well and is unable to solely target synthetics causing indiscriminate damage.
Hackett is currently lost in space, and as I interpret it, he too will soon die. His use of "die along with those of us" and "up to the survivors" indicate that he too will perish as a result of the Crucible's activation. His vessel, like all others, was disabled by the Space Magic Explosion, and he likely lacks the means to repair it in any case.
Well, the mass relays were able to get you further that FTL could, so it would take longer, but yes, they would be able to survive without the mass relays
/watch?v=lJbsR3gx19Q Skip to 6:30. If you look carefully, they all look slightly different. In me3, only sovereign-class reaper who looked different was Harbinger
He survives the battle, probably by not being at the vanguard, but it is implied in the ending that the his ship is irreparably damaged and that he will die out in space.
If you're saying this to widen the opportunity for Shepard to live, then I have an explanation, if not just ignore my comment. The destroy ending will cause synthetics to stop working. Shepard is partly (or maybe mostly) synthetic, so even if she did shot from the save distance, the red blast will cause her synthetic to stop working; same result
i was aware of that but bioware comfirmed that the indoctrination ending is false but shep does survive in destroy, thats if you have enough ems to get the breath scene.
Question, for the destroy ending, you have to shoot the red tube to destroy, why does shepard keep walking into the exploding tube when she could stand at a safe distance and destroy it with the hand cannon she's got?! I never understood that.
Unless you're talking about Shepard firing at the tube with a sniper with a ultra super scope from the distance of 100,000,000km, I really don't know what you meant by "safe distance".
Wait I have seen three other ways to stop the reapers that don't involve destroying everything (or at least to so few they might as well die). 1 you take control over the reapers. 2 synthesis where reapers help the other species of the galaxy advance and where the synthetics and organic have no differences. 3 destroy where only the reapers are destroyed. 4 this ending
The reason (according to what BioWare thinks, I guess) is this: the more EMS you have, the more powerful your army and fleet are, so the crucible will get less damage while going to the citadel, so it will be able to create a form of "pure" energy (aka space magic) that won't kill everybody, but will be able, if you have a lot of EMS, to selectively target just the reapers, and still some synthetic life (EDI, geths), as it won't be perfectly intact, though. That's it :)
Did you see the massive explosion from the Crucible destroying itself after it fired? Even if Shepard fired at the "tube" from a distance, how exactly was she going to get off the Crucible in the few seconds it took itself to fire/explode? Secondly, obviously she wanted to go out like the badass she was and not die while trying to run away/escape the Crucible.
Shepard is part synthetic, that's how Cerberus brought him back. Now he's not like a cyborg mind you, just has synthetic equipment that kept him together and brought him back, most of which is shown in the beginning part of ME2 where it shows the whole procedure and everything. Starchild also states that the crucible will not distinguish and all synthetics will be destroyed if you choose that ending. tl;dr he'll die anyways, might as well go out in style.
Colonies, space stations, people on ships in space or other races. In an age where interstellar travel is simple and people can freely travel throughout civilised space, not everyone is going to be on Earth.
Destroying the base is the better outcome you get paragon for destroying it and renegade for just killing everything inside and keeping the base intact
I don't understand how the amount of allies and resources gathered change how the Crucible functions. The protheans added earth scorching abilities to the design?
the more assets you have at your disposal, the more progress is made when theyre building the crucible, the less complete it is, the worse the ending. The rest of the ems is about defending against the reapers while you activate it. If it takes damage it wont function correctly which would result in a bad ending. High EMS ensures the crucibles completion and its safe transport to the citadel.
