My first playthrough, I was singing with him with tears in my eyes. And when he blew up and got cut off before he could say "scientist salarian" I finished it for him. :,( Rest in peace, sweet scientist salarian.
"And know that Urdnot Bakara calls you a friend." I adored her. What a beautifully written character. Her part in this story may have been small, but she leaves a huge impact on the player. Even though I understand why she can't, I do wish she came around with us afterwards.
A man who helped continue a horrible crime realizes his mistake and not only corrects it but ensures that it is done by his hands the same hands that killed hundreds before they could breath their first breath. Even if it means his life. A story of redemption so moving it brought tears to my eyes this is why ,ass effect will always be my favorite game franchise.
+PassiveSmoking - I did that, too. You know, romanced Miranda. I also played a female Infiltrator named Leila Shepard to romance Kaidan. That hilarious scene where Leila stares below the waist line... 😂
This brings me to tears every time. Losing Thane was hard and seeing his empty chair and mug in life support makes me sad every time I go in there, but it's Mordin's death that really gets to me.
Yeah. Thane's death was sad but lets face it, he was already on borrowed time and Cerberus' intervention gave him the opportunity to go out like a badass. Mordin on the other hand could have lived out his golden years in peace but choose to give that up for a species that doesn't even like his kind at all because he believes they deserve a second chance.
The two bits that make me start to tear up whenever I see this scene are "Would've liked to run tests on the sea shells" and him singing "Scientist Salarian" before he died.
I think Wrex naming a female Mordin is actually a higher honor than if he'd given the name to a male. 1. The krogan hold females in the absolute highest regard. Bakara was able to unite the disparate males in an effort to end the genophage once and for all. 2. With the genophage cured, females are what will rebuild the krogan species. Mordin Solus gave his life to give the krogan a chance to do that.
For someone who was fated to live a short live he made the best out of it His diligence is remarkable by every definition, a truly well made character...
Mordin admits he made a mistake in the Renegade options. He modified the Genophage to prevent the Krogan from adapting an immunity. This sacrifice made them even.
Australia is more inhospitable to humans than Iran has ever been. From the wildlife to the sinkholes, it's as close to Tuchanka as Earth could ever get.
This is the reason games are made. I cried and I ain't afraid to admit it. Perfect scene, sacrifice of a character that we loved on this way, is just overwhelming emotional roller-coster. Mordin, rest in piece you crazy old Scientist Salarian.
I looked for a version with the song, it’s so weird seeing how everybody else just so obviously skimmed through the game, sadge. Even as kids we explored every nook and cranny of every map in every solar system.
Hearing the ME1 main menu theme again during this fricken hit me hard. Even growing up as a kid I remember being stuck on the ME1 main menu for god knows how long because of that theme.
Mordins death is beyond sad but the moment that really gets me is Wrex looking at the cure being dispersed while the main theme plays. I really sympathized with the Krogan in the Mass Effect Trilogy and when I saw Wrex a gruff and tough Krogan who everyone outside of the Normandy thought was as deep as a kiddie pool just staring up into the sky smiling is so incredible to me.
Not sure if I prefer this version or the version where he actually yells at Shepard to let him fix his mistake. But here he sounds like he's singing just to stave off the panic. He's accepting but there's a certain amount of panic that's normal and he's like 'no I'll go out proud and singing.'
This right here. This scene RIGHT HERE makes the entire game, for all it's faults, for all it's failures, this makes it worth it. To achieve such a big reaction, to bring tears to the eyes of their players, THAT is the reason this game is worth every second.
A human cured the genophage, made peace between the Geth and Quarians, and defeated the Reapers. I just love the series because how we Humans, even though we are young, new to the galaxy and have devastated our selves in the past... we still have never stopped progress, we have always looked up and beyond our horizons, where all other species thought there was a wall that ended the road, we humans broke down the wall and punched forward
I hate the fact that in the time Shepard starts talking to Mordin, and the time Mordin stands singing, he could have gotten out of the tower before the explosion.
That's what made it so fantastic. Losing all those buddies leaves one mourning altrough we all know it's just fiction. Thing is; It's fiction that goes straight to the heart.
To be fair, Thane already had his illness back when you meet him in ME2. He didn't have long left by the time of the 3rd game. His death was inevitable whether or not he fought Kai Leng.
This is basically the Reapers fault. I was just playing the Noveria mission in ME1 and the Rachni queen stated that they brought war because their leaders voices were silenced one after the other and replaced with a sour yellow note. Sounds like they were being manipulated by something or someone (Reaper Indoctrination). Seems like all this was the cause of the Reapers to have the galaxy in a state of panic, making it easier for them to do their cycle. Which of course uplifting the Krogans to fight the indoctrinated rachni only slowed the Reapers plans. If the Reapers never used the Racni the Krogans would have never been used by the Citadel Council and Mordin would have never had to make such choices. Just something else to consider.
Actually, the Leviathon DLC suggests the Rachni were used by the leviathons instead. Which makes sense given the Rachni Queen turns out to be immune to indoctrination, which means all of them would have been.
+timemonkey The Leviathans had nothing to gain from the Rachni Wars, and it makes more sense for it to have been the Reapers, specifically Sovereign. The Noveria Queen was immune to indoctrination, yes, but I think it's because she outgrew her ancestor's weakness, ya know?
+Slaaneshi Rubric Marine That's a huge exaggeration. At worst, they would've fallen in a few days. At best, they'd have destroyed a good quantity of Reapers. The Reapers had numbers _and_ strength on their side; they were literally space juggernauts. Destroying one is an achievement.
+Diablos Yeah. One of the failures of the game is they actually under represent the power of the Reapers. For most of the game it actually seems like if the Council hadn't been idiots and had actually built up their fleets they might have been able to win. But the battle for Earth shows the truth, Shepard literally rallies the might of the galaxy for one battle and they don't even come close to winning, or even holding their own, it's just delay as long as possible.
He was happy because he was a salarian that did right and could live with his mistakes and could take the responsibility of what his goal was and the greatest sacrifice of all...for other to live a better life a sacrifice of one life that saved million. When one sacrifices a million listen. He always seemed to do right underrated scientist but his success was his scream of righteousness.
Years later and you still cant pause cutscenes, i literally had to open the door at beginning of this scene... came back and mordin did his daadaaa duuduu salarian sad song. Ffs.
“I am the very model of a scientist salarian” makes me cry everytime… I laughed and thought he was cocky when he said that line in me2, he died saying that very line… gets me everytime.
I don't understand how Mordin died in one of my playthroughs, he was loyal, the second squad leader was loyal -garrus, and he still died. As if he was just a scientist too soft for combat and not the hardened ex-sti agent he actually is.
Nae hesitation, nae doubts, nae way tae argue with him. Ye dinnae know were you stand, till you know you will not run. I hope I'll be that brave when my time comes.
@IncrediblyIndecisive yeah, pretty much once you get going in the story :/ never really cried during a video game before, but fuck was this just so damn well written and emotionally charged and powerful conclusion to the series that I think is to games what the original Star Wars trilogy is to films
@@DucktilityThe 'girls' that are so revered by krogan society that only a few words by Bakara were able to unite a dozen angry males in a final push to cure the genophage?
On my 2nd playthrough Wrex died in ME1 and Eve died on the way to the tower. With only that asshole Krogan running things faking the cure was an easy choice. If you try to fake the cure when Wrex is still alive he will find out and the Krogan won't join the fight but that other guy is dumb enough to believe it and he didn't deserve to lead the Krogan anyway.
I fucked up my first run in this series. Mordin died in my Mass Effect 2 campaign. I decided to move forward with a heavy heart. After playing Mass Effect 3 and discovering Mordin has this scene and it made me disappointed in myself I couldn't experience it firsthand.
I will admit this is the first seen in any game recently that has made me cryi didn't take mordin with me much on missions in ME2 but god damn if that amphibious Scientist salarian hadn't won me over from the first moment....Good luck wherever you are mordin, good luck
Even though this is relay sad, i think this is a good death for Mordin, he dies happy and at peace knowing he was finally able to correct his mistakes. The krogan have a good future under Wrex as well, he's not interested in revenge like wreav, and Eve will hep even more.
This was a more heartwrenching death ending than the other Mordin death. He's singing, and he's scared. The other one he is more accepting, this was just made my tear ducts... problematic.
I actually had him die off screen in ME2 and I gotta say they did a really good job in making me attached to his replacement character given the short time he was part of the story. Watching this, I actually prefer how the replacement character stood there proudly when the tower exploded. I just didn't like that Sheppard didn't give him any last words before he went up that elevator.
I seriously cried got like 10 MIN!! it was so sad and when he started singing that song right in the middle of finishing it he died I GOT SO BAD AND ANGRY I was like why would you do that while he's singing .....it was so sad T.T
