The Mass Games in North Korea is perhaps one of the world's most incredible spectacles. Thousands of performers in the world's largest stadium putting on a show on a scale unfathomable in most of the world. But what's the history? How does the Mass Games in Pyongyang have links to the Napoleonic War? And what exactly was the Arirang Mass Games?

With all the politics and propaganda, his videos are needed. Average person just pictures the Kim dynasty and North Korean military and missiles when the country of DPRK is mentioned, completely ignoring the fact that it's just a country like all others, with their own functioning economy, society and laws.

Thank you for giving us a peek at the DPRK! I have been a student of this country for decades starting in the 80's by monitoring shortwave radio, both the voiced and radiotelegraph broadcasts of Radio Pyongyang. Although it was much more difficult for an American to elicit a reply from Radio Pyongyang, than say from Radio Moscow or the DDR's Radio Berlin, I managed to do it by sending them concise and thorough reception reports ofProbably

The 1871 empire was the Second German Empire. The first empire was the Holy Roman Empire, which was dissolved by Napoleon in 1806. It was sometimes called the German Empire, but anyone calling it that at such a late date would likely have meant it sarcastically.

@@michaelsladnick5482 Those were definitely not the borders of the HRE. And Historian don't call it the first German empire. The Nazis were the ones to invent that term! Edit: If I may speak to give a suggestion, I personally found the non-stop "static effect" for the stadium footages a bit distracting, cause the footage is already low quality as it is, the flashing lines just made it harder for my eyes to focus on particular spots of the footages.

Great informative video as always! Where do you generally collect info and footage from, international sources, or dprk sources? (Or both?)
@DPRKExplained
@DPRKExplained 2 года назад
Usually a combination of both. Domestic sources provide a lot of detail and then international sources often help to back up that information. Usually it’s about cross referencing as much information as I can - that was especially the case with the Trolleybus lines in this video, they’ve changed so much that the first map I made was completely different to the end result.

Hey! Thanks for (another) great video! Would you know how easy it is for an average NK citizen to get tickets to those games? I imagine it might be a bit of a trek if one is not a Pyongyang resident. Are the tickets bought privately, assigned to local communities to be then distributed, or is there some sort of lottery system? (also, I absolutely lost it at the sight of those dancing Pandas)
@DPRKExplained

Are games being held just in Pyongyang? Why is it so irregular, with uncertainty about frequency and dates? Thanks.
@DPRKExplained

The Mass Games is the name given to the Mass Gymnastic Displays held in Pyongyang. The Soviet Spartakiad had sports events with a gymnastic performance at the opening, although these days the term 'Mass Games' is relatively ubiquitous in referring to the Mass Gymnastics.
