Reading some of the comments below, full of hate, of disrespect for a man's work, words without thinking of what does filming in North Korea mean and what are you allowed to show, words repeated like a parrot after the western propaganda "nukes, starvation, labour camps"(which BTW are TRUE, BUT not the subject for a normal tourist) makes me realize that the world has MUCH BIGGER problems than the dictatorship of North Korea. People, please use your brain! let's make this world a better place through love, friendship and tolerance! May god bless you all!
I'm watching and trying to stay as neutral as possible, I like always different points of view. However, is this part real? 7:54 Did you really told that to a french tourist guy?
Of course not! It was only a (bad) joke. Still, if a tourist leaves the hotel on his own nothing will happen to him, except he will be grounded in the hotel, not being able to walk with the group the next days.
Because if it is true, I did not find it funny at all, after all things I have heard to happen to people who break rules in North Korea that joke would have ended really really bad for that guy, and this is coming from a guy who likes dark humor (as long as nobody get hurts, and I'm not talking about snowflake feelings, I mean really hurt, arrested and physically tortured) Anyways, that would be my only critic, for the rest I'm still watching and interested EDIT: I just finished watching, thank you very much for sharing, it was good to see North Korea from a different perspective as the one used in the western media. But please, if next time you go to a place with very strict rules, don't try to prank somebody to break them just for the lol's (I'm glad the french guy didn't tried, and hopefully you told that to him because you knew he wasn't going to take you seriously)
Hello hundreds of thousands Arabs were killed in the Middle East and millions were forced to become refugees thanks to So-called most democratic nation in the world and that is America for attacking Iraq, Libya, Syria, Afghanistan, Somalia and Yemen. Then we have the daily bombardment of Gaza killing tens of thousands Palestinians mostly women and children by the illegitimate Jewish state of Israel. So don't distract the world away from Palestine issue.
I am South Korean. After watching this video, i thought that North Korea is totally different from South Korea.. All of the architectures are different.. I hope our countries unify. Peace for Korean Peninsula.
So many comments from 'armchair experts' of North Korea, all of which have studied at the CNN School of Western Properganda, but are yet to visit North Korea for themselves. I'm just a couple of weeks away from my 3rd visit to North Korea, and this was one of the best review videos out there. Well done guys, you went there with an open mind, and it doesn't look like it disappointed you at all!
No not at all but I’d take the world of people who have defected like yeonmi parks than some jackass who thinks it’s funny to go there and pretend it’s like Disney land. He went to Pyongyang not anywhere else where people are starving and eating rats
@@swampophelia2098 and you know these defectors are telling the absolute truth, without any enticement from the South Korean or US Governmemt? Kang Myung Do admitted to being paid to appear on TV, so it pays to embellish a story or two to keep the payroll turning over. Shin Dong Hyuk has admitted to 'stretching the truth', and many elements of Yeonmi Park's stories just don't add up at all.... Maybe these defectors are the ones now enjoying a Disneyland life....
@@EveryDayHoliDay some of the way they describe the beliefs of the North Koreans could also easily describe how Americans view their nation. Who on earth would want to go to North Korea to see the bad bits anyway? Who would do that in ANY country. Have you ever gone to any nation in Africa or Latin America and asked to see their prisons? Why not? They spent 3 days there, and spend most of it behind a camera. That will never earn the trust of the North Korean guides, and as a result they were extremely limited in their movememts. What or how much were they expecting to see in that short time. I have spent weeks in North Korea, and travelled from Sinuiju in the north to Kaesong in the south and Nampo in the west. I am yet to go out to Mt Paektu in the east yet. I've seen more of North Korea than most westerners, so I consider myself more in touch with their culture and customs. Are they hiding things? No, they don't have the resources to do that, and frankly they have more important things to do than monitor just 500 or so Western tourists that visit their country every year. But you keep watching RU-vid and believing everything you see....you obviously know more than me.....
I love how Western news media has penetrated so much into the society that even a RU-vidr from Romania showing the good sides of North Korea is now considered to be propoganda sponsored by the entire nation of DPRK. Yeah, sure bud. They're still struggling with energy production due to massive trade sanctions imposed by the West but they sure do seem to sponsor small-time youtubers 😂😂😂
@@naughtiusmaximus789 It's common knowledge the NK regime pays and is behind a much propaganda and attacking defectors on the internet to the extent of death threats. YOU are propaganda yourself if you are claiming NK has better things to do, actually they don't.
Because it is!! Look at the video's, this is propaganda driven channel. See they praise every comment glorifying NK while they stuff their faces with no mention of starvation in a single comment. I reported it. It's a fake channel with actors and an evil agenda. Nothing more, nothing less. Probably more Romanians they abducted and put up to this because no decent human being would go to such a place and support a Hell with their tourist money!! I reported it repeatedly and hope it's removed. It's highly inflammatory and exploitive. They treat this atrocity and humanitarian genocide like a joke, like a picnic on the beach. It doesn't sit well with me nor do all the obvious phony bot comments.

Considering that the US and south Korean military constantly encircle their land and sea border, often with many submarines with nukes, you're damn right they watch foreigners, as they should. The capitalist half was formed after the U.S. invaded and installed a dictator. The North only invaded to get back territory that originally belonged to them.
The Kim's power base will never relinquish power, they know they would be jobless if there were elections. The only way the Country will become one is if No Koreans revolt.
Roger Pray yes. Sort of. They are not being executed for taking, let's say, a selfie with us, but there is a high chancen of being asked afterwards by the secret police.
I think it actually had been possible if we would have asked our guides to ask the locals to have pictures with us...but due to the whole atmosphere there we haven't thought about that!
We rally delete rude and inappropriate comments. Chlie meant westerners generally, not us in particular. As everybody can see, as many minuses we might have hed, drunk we were absolutely not! 😂😂
You and tour wife did an outstanding job documenting what you were able. Anyone that has done travel can appreciate obvious limitations. Appreciate your humor and based on what i have researched, your commentary is truthful as far as what is being represented. Obviously South Korea is a clear contrast at least time i was there and unless one has understanding of what a communist country allows such as DPRK, those that make comments clearly don't have a clue and less understanding of history. This was a unique opportunity that you and your beautiful wife shared. Thanks from Southern California. I will be watching more of your videos.
Thanks so much, Tom, for your kind words. Usually people just criticize us, without understanding the limitations of filming there. We also released a second part, where we tried to show the truth: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vDJU8PG_3oc.html
So you're telling me the people they decided to place in the bus are too stupid to make a realistic laugh? Or could it be a possible that this very obscure, almost alien....isolated country has a particular way to laugh? Do you think all human societies have the same laughing mannerisms?
The traffic is great until you realize that you are not one of the special ones allowed to drive. There's always the bus, bicycle, and of course walking.
No, this is important, what would a tourist see and do! THANK YOU. Also being from Romania, and having lived with Communism, the couple have a much better take on North Korea. Looking at it from all aspects. Are there bad things, yes? But, this tells me what it would be like if I went on a trip. Though I was worried the Australian guy was going to be arrested! yelp. Also it was respectful. There is one video about NK where the guy is drunk the entire time.
Awesome video, this is one of the best DPRK vids I have seen, you guys have a great, happy, sunny personality.DPRK Is so interesting an unique, very similar to how East Germany used to be.I don't care too much about the politics. The North Korean people have alot of pride in their country and are hard workers, more people should love their country like this.
Pyongyang is part showpiece for tourists and diplomats and part enclave for high ranking party officials and their servants and government functionaries. Life in this city is probably very nice if you are allowed to live there, but it is unknown what life is like for ordinary people in small towns and farms.
No it's most definitely not very nice to live in Pyongyang, but it beats the alternative... As long you don't mind being in the center of attention which means you'll have to live a lie officially. I'm sure some people have made the choice to live in shitty "huts" without electricity.
As you said, it's an unknown. So it's best not to speculate. Given that the DPRK is still officially at war, it's best to take any media about the DPRK from western sources with many grains of salt.
@@xenoblad They are at war with Korea though, not "the west" in it's entirety. And "the media" includes private people, charities and first hand stories from people who escaped. And it's not like any goverment or media company could fake anti NK propaganda in Pyongyang by asking locals to do things that look bad. There's also atleast some footage of the poor in the countryside btw and atleast one series from VICE where they go to North Korean labour camps hidden away in the Siberian wilderness (Pretty much a way for NK to sell their people as slave workers to support the regime) which give glimpses into the lives of the approximate 85% of the population who aren't "fortunate" enough to live in Pyongyang. So not entirely unknown. Even though they try very hard to prevent that. Regarding the Korean peninsula many prople from both sides still consider eachother like split up siblings just with diffrent friends and really want a unified Korea once again so it's not like they're into maliciously blasting eachother. Especially not South Korea I'd say as they feel bad for them and know alot more than North Korea know about them. Edit: Although in newer documentaries things admittedly look like they're actually progressing somewhat, well atleast in Pyongyang and I feel that it probably has to do with more income from a increase in outsourcing labour camps as mentioned before. Or other scummy things, mayby trafficking but that one is pure guessing.
@@DajuOnRU-vid The west bows down to US demands. In effect the west includes the US and all her allies. There are private testimonials of babies dying in incubators in Iraq during the Saddam regime, but we later found out that was lies. You can find videos on youtube of DPRK people outside the country saying positive things. The South Korean networks won't air these people and pay a large premium for the worst possible stories they can get. Take media from South Korea, the US, and all their allies with a grain of salt.
Amazing! Thank you for this video! I hope it will enlighten most people’s view on North Korea. To be honest, I believe that the locals there are happy people - even with less than what people from the Western world have.
Let's take this video on its merit alone, excellent editing and mostly good photography given the limitations. Most importantly, compelling content is the name of the game and this video smashed it. Thank you so much and I am going to hit the like button and subscribe. I am looking forward to a visit to Bucharest and Constanta. And I love that you do videos in English and Romania. I am going to watch the Romania videos as well. I was first interested in Romanian culture from of all places a Walgreens in Times Square New York. Above the register was a greeting in many languages. I saw bună ziua and said to myself, I want to know what language is that. Then I fell in love with the culture, movies, tv etc. Thank you and good luck.
Great video! It's all I wanted was a look at the DPRK without any judgement or criticism as other people's videos sadly do. I get to see what a typical tourist sees and let me come to my own conclusions. Looks like an interesting and fun tour.
@@Shubham-xr8ih The DPRK looks like an interesting place to visit because it is so unique in today's post-Cold War World. I see other people's videos that criticize the DPRK tours for only showing the positive stuff. There is nothing wrong if a tour highlights only the best scenery of a country. When you think about it... what tour anywhere will take people to see the worst parts of a country? For example if you were to take a group of Asian Tourists to Los Angeles, California.... would you take them to the worst gang controlled streets and the poor ghetto areas? I doubt that. I would be open to getting an opportunity to visit the DPRK. I believe as long as visitors respect the laws and customs... North Korea/DPRK should be a interesting safe place to tour. Anyone who cannot respect and follow the laws and rules should go visit somewhere else.

I'm glad that you are sharing your suspicion not a lot of turists that vlog do that. Also the western propoganda isn't a propoganda they are telling the truth I mean they do sometimes exacerate but I know cause where I'm from used to be communist and from the story's I heard they do relate
So, you went to North Korea and they let you go? They didn't realize what they lost ... :) Wonderful episode! Congratulations! A lovely Christmas to you and your loved ones!
I was honestly entertaining similar thoughts, haha. I've paid under $45 a night for hotel rooms here in the US that looked very comparable or better than the one in this video. While I'd have no complaints with it, I'm not a picky person to begin with. Even so, I'd have to say it was 3 stars, at best. That isn't surprising, given their economic state, but I just assumed that tourists were always given near-royal treatment in order to convey the country in a false light. This was a nice, new perspective from other videos I've seen, as it shows that isn't always the case.

@@EveryDayHoliDay politics main stream media and other things destroy our planet greed and power from leaders around the world the media make NK out to be some sort of prison but its not
This video is really representative of that experience. Sadly at this point, you could probably only have the scripted experience, and not one of your own. In other countries, you can befriend the locals and go to their homes and restaurants together and talk about common concerns in life over a beer. But not right now in North Korea.
This is just one side of the story. The good flashy side of NK. I read this book of a North Korean defector YEONMI PARK and I was in a puddle of tears as I reached to the last page. That girl went through a lot and hundreds of people do during their try to escape some don't even make it and are send back to concentration camps and those who escape have to experience horror while in China (as Nkns are considered illegal and are sent back to NK if caught hiding in China ). Also there are countless villages (as according to that book) in NK where there is no electricity food toilets and other basic amenities. They feed on a grain or two of rice coz even a bowl FULL of rice is a luxury for them something they can have only on their birthdays. Some feed on rats and insects others die off starvation. They are brainwashed about themselves. Taught to worship the Kim dictators like Gods. Asked to see public executions of family members at a tender age of 12 so that they are "taught" to remain loyal to "their" nation. I am just 15 y/O but Reading that book changed my perspective of how I look at life. In of the interviews of YEONMI PARK she asked people and Govts of different nations to urge China to stop repatriation of Nkns and pressurising the NKn Govt. To stop their inhuman acts. The fact that not many people know this is in itself saddening. I highly recommend you to read that book "IN ORDER TO LIVE" by YEONMI PARK.

It’s a lot more chill than you expected because they want you to think that. The buildings you see on the way in, they’re just a half assed construction project. It’s all fake.
From the images in train of North Korea campaigns I don't see many differences with the rural areas of Europe. Same for the city. Main problem maybe the cars.
The state owned factories in China and North Korea, free houses allocation, and in the meantime the people struggling to rent a room in London, Bruxelles, etc. Where is the failure? On Russia and the shortage of resources from US and ex UK colonies or in the modern liberal capitalism?
Metro 2033 is in Russia and the North Korean metro system is basically a copy of the Soviet/Russian metro system as it is identical except the Soviet one is much more decorated than the North Korean one
Dude , this got to be one of the best and most interesting travel documentaries i have ever seen , ignore the mofos moaning about human right situation and how "evil" north Korean regime is, the problem is that their countries screwed much more people around the world than what north Korea did to its own people. keep up the good work and ignore those hypocrites!

I nearly died laughing when you said you were gonna debunk some myth about North Korea ... Then say you can only film on a guided tour. What do you think the NK gov is letting you film? I always said there are stupid people around us. I just hope you didn't mean what you said. 1st of all ... everything you just showed ... we already know. There are no myth. That is because you were in the capital city. And we all know what it is like there. You wanna debunk some myth ... go film the poor outside the city. 2nd ... you said we can't film out of the train. Nope ... as far as i know in the capital, everything apart from gov agencies and offices are allowed, provided you have a guide. And you know what that means lol 3rd ... Supermarkets are full of stuff. Yes we already know that. In fact many other videos who that the supermarket are full of stuff. But can people really buy them? Answer is no. Perhaps you had shown us the general public in the supermarket shopping like in other countries, that would have persuaded us a little. But you didn't 4th ... 1 thing the NK gov is good at is entertainment. That is not a myth. That is well known. But their entertainment is limited ... and lack variety. 5th ... the food is delicious, i have little doubt. But it is expensive and like most things in NK ... limited to the rich and upper class only. 6th ... and yes the building in the capital city is beautiful. light and so on. again ... 1st point ... capital city. we already know that. try to go debunk some real myths. The capital is where all the top officials and rich upper class live. And if you have the money you can live like a king there. Last i remembered ... that isn't the myth. That is the fact we all know. So i have no idea what myth you are trying to bust here. And if you really wanna bust some myth ... go outside the capital and take some recordings. Oh yeah ... that is forbidden on your guided tours ... i wonder why ... ... ...

NK has been repeatedly bullied and stomped on by the US for not conforming to their capitalistic standards just as they do every other country. The US has tried to ruin their economy time after time and their people are still proud for the most part. Gotta see both sides.
Tourists are only allowed to see what the N.Korean government want them to see. The Government controls every aspect of peoples lives. You don’t see the labor camps, starvation, rolling blackouts, and abject poverty. Thousands of N. Koreans die of starvation every year. Most are malnourished. Living there must be like living in hell.
