Toa fan: I shall use the powers of science to calculate each piece in order to find out the weight of this powerful mechanical warrior Scientist who went to college: give that lil robot man a bath

We already knew the Tahtorak was an absolute unit, but if this is how massive a Toa is I shudder to think how heavy he is

YO THANKS FOR THE SHOUTOUT! I love your channel, this is so cool! The mass was the one thing I couldn't quite figure out, so its so great to see how you did it, that was really clever using a real set and scaling up! This is going to be so good, I definitely have plans that will make this an excellent reference! Mass of a grizzly bear, actually makes a lot of sense, definitely heavy, but also not so absurdly heavy that their feats of agility don't make sense. Also makes their proportional strength that much cooler!

Hahaha!! 😆😆😝 That mishap about forgetting to submerge Lhikan to find volume was hilarious. I've done so many dumb blunders like that in my life, so it's nice to see another bright young man make a simple mistake just like me. 😎👉🏻👉🏻

Rahiwatching: That means a Toa can carry 3 of their brothers or sisters easily -a useful thing for them to know going into battle. Me: Ah yes, of course - for use in battle. **me imagining 4 Toa riding on each other's shoulders like a giant totem pole**

Calculate Matoran mass next.
@justsomeguy5628

To think that this is more or less a lower bound is kinda crazy. Imagine how much more they would weigh if instead of an open gearbox, they had their lungs and heart their. Or if the many gaps and holes in their design were filled in. Working off of what we can firmly call cannon, this is probably the best answer, so I think it should be used for calculations. However, I would imagine a weight, if the sets were actually in the shape of a real, description accurate shape, and you went the root of comparing their bodies to steel, they would probably weigh several tons. Either way, they are so huge, physically strong, resistant, and having Kanohi and elemental abilities, the mass could be either and you would still end up with a giant brute of unimaginable might. Things on the scale of the Manas, Muaka, Kane-Ra, Tarakava, Mana Ko, Catapult Scorpion, Niazesk, and hundreds more already border on absurdity, and Rahi like the Kardas Dragon, the Kanohi Dragon, the Tahtorak, the first 3 Rahi, and the mountain are all beyond comprehension. It would be really interesting if you could go into the physics behind something like the Great Spirit Robot, as it is something where even gravity control and time manipulation can't make it into something possible. Love the vids, and I can't wait to see more from you. ❤️

You know I have to be real here. I went into this expecting to be overwhelmed, bored and just thrown a bunch of info. Yet honestly this was entertaining, and even if I didn't understand everything that was given, a lot of the info and methodology was explained in a way that at least seemed understandable. Looking forward to seeing more of this channel.

Mind adding captions in pounds for us in the states who are too lazy to do the calculation ourselves?

I'm going to start adding captions showing conversions from my next video onwards where I can, whilst the audio will stick to metric only. Over half of my audience is American, so it makes sense to start adding them in as captions!

Interesting. They are so heavy tho. Btw, I have a small question. How much mass do Heroes from Hero Factory have? Since they're pretty similar, only being mechanical except the Quaza core.

There is one tiny issue with the volume measurement: the set has more holes than are in the actual toa
@theknowledgetower208
@theknowledgetower208 Год назад
That is true, the unused axle holes for example would be empty space in the set, but probably not in the actual Toa. However, the sets are still the best physical representation we have of the characters that can be physically measured, so you have to go with what evidence you have to hand when trying to work these things out. Also, like with the Fermi estimations method explained in the size of the GSR video, any underestimation here will likely have been cancelled out by possible over estimations made in other parts of the calculation, allowing us to still get as close as possible to whatever the "right" figure is.

Question, did you know that the average height of the Choa is actually based on the average height of the toa mata figures so they would be more accurate
@theknowledgetower208
@theknowledgetower208 8 месяцев назад
I did know that, yes. The height used for an average Toa in this video was taken from that figure. But, given that the Toa Mata have a unique body type in canon compared to the average Toa, I discounted them for use in this calculation as a model for the volume measure as it wouldn't be representative.

As a physics major myself I could not empathize more with your subconscious impulse to mentally repress the existence of fluids entirely. :P I thought it interesting to compare your result to a real-life robot: The Boston Atlas is (according to their website) 1.5 m tall and weighs 89 kg, so scaling up to a Toa's height it would equal (89 kg)*(2.19/1.5)^3 = (89 kg)*3.11 = 276.98 kg, which is actually slightly more than your result for a Toa, despite the Boston Atlas described as 'lightweight' by the company - though, to be fair, it isn't made of some magic metal or super-alloy. In any case the numbers roughly match up and seem to indicate that the 250-300 kg range is about the lightest a being made of mostly metal can be at that size! Also, I'm pretty sure 14:55 is how Toa Kaita work. :P (Btw if you use floating point notation you won't have to spell out all those decimals all the time. :3 )

Now I want to know how much a Toa could lift with a Pakari. Maybe you can use that idea for a future video
@alemon1666

A toa's strength is- if I recall correctly- doubled when using a pakari, and again doubled when using a pakari nuva.

I personally like to think that Bionicle action figures are actually life size, and that's why all the plants and terrain around them is so giant. The mata nui robot isn't actually the size of a moon, just to them it is.

And as Synthetics vs Organics (Mass Effect terminologies) goes, naturally, the Toa are physically stronger than Glatorian alone without elemental powers. No wonder the Great Beings made Marendar as a precaution.

Hold on, do we know if the 85%-15% split is by volume, or by weight? If it were by weight, a 100kg body would be 85 lg n 15 kg, however by volume you suddenly get very different values Do we know if the toy is an accurate depiction of the entire character including biological parts, or just the metallic parts? In certain instances within movies and media they are a lot less 'hollow' than the toys after all. Is it fair to assume that the armor plating is the same thickness as plate armor, considering they also have technology to move and can deal with different weight limitations than humans in medieval armors used to. Not to mention different form & armor types would probabl require different thicknesses.
