In this investigation, we pit Greg Farshtey and Christian Faber against one another and use science to determine which of them is right in the question of how just how big the Great Spirit Robot truly is.
What aspect of the Bionicle legend should we investigate next? Leave your suggestions in the comments!

The GSR has abilities that somehow manipulate gravity, and the ability to convert matter to energy and vice versa, so I think all of the issues of how it would affect planets and systems that it encounters could be solved using these concepts.
@Bionickpunk
@Bionickpunk Год назад
GSR and the prototype robot are capable of manipulating gravity, matter, space, and time. Seeing how Mata Nui was able to quickly alter the planet of Bara Magna, colliding two moons back into the planet, and transmogrify the planet and every inhabitant on it on a selective level. Still needed to do the calculations to make it work, but the fact that Spherus Magna did not explode due to two moon impacts shows great reality manipulation going on. The level of tech used here is beyond our current understanding.

I subscribe to Faber´s estimates, since GSR head being the size of Denmark makes ton of sense. Farshtey was never good at scaling. Aqua Magna and Spherus Magna are still massive planetary bodies (among the largest possible rocky planets)....which the comics or Legend Reborn movie dont properly showcase. Maybe the Mask of Life and the robot itself have some unknown high tech that negate any force the robot would create when landing and flying away from a planet, otherwise every planet would have mass extinction events each time the robot just appears. Each dome area in the GSR has artificial gravity most likely, thats not effected by planetary or cosmic gravity outside of the robot. So in a sense, the Robot really is a universe in itself, due to laws of physics working separate from the outside universe. Great Beings are reality benders, as seen with the mask powers they created, so its no surprise the Robot bends reality just by existing.

There is a lot of technology and powers in Bionicle lore that could be used to explain how it doesn’t destroy planets it lands on, gravity manipulation, the ability to control density that some Krataa have, even teleportation could be used to put the displaced water somewhere else when it takes its place and then put it back when it leaves, and possibly even weather control or water elemental powers to calm the oceans when moving that much water somewhere else

Or the force of gravity literally not having the same power on that specific planet as it does on Earth, through possibly having a completely different value for the gravitational constant. Or not even having said constant but having gravity function completely different but with similar effects.

If I recall, the measurements of the Island of Mata Nui is the approximate size of Denmark, so that's an interesting bit of info. In any case, I agree with Faber's estimate. Either way, the sheer size of the GSR, and the technology it would take not only to build it, but also so incredibly powerful creations like the Mask of Life and complex artificial sentience led me to believe that the Great Beings were some inconceivably advanced interstellar race independent of Spherus Magna. But apparently, they are canonically a group of Agori native to Spherus Magna (according to Greg), just like all the other Agori...

I view the technology of Bionicle as actually being only at an Industrial Revolution level of advancement but with superior ‘building blocks’. The concept being that instead of understanding the universe’s functions and exploiting them, their technology works by guiding the chaos of energized protodermis. Instead of traditional artificial intelligence, they figured out how to induce, modify, and retrieve the consciousnesses that forms in the material. The miracle metal probably produces physics-breaking substances that can then be placed into circuitry to make the masks work. The GSR is full of the stuff so it can release controlled projections of its transmutating energies for its purposes. I think it would be interesting if the science was not super advanced but rather built on anomalies in the universe.

You know what really grinds my gears regarding the bionicle story? How splitt the community is about the actual lore, despite the commercials (wich for me are the 100% correct) show, the islands gets brocken into piees and sinks into the ocean aka gets completly destroyed and overflooded, yet somehow later in lore it's established that those islands still exist and survived ... and some fans even claim unlike the trailer shows that the islands are INSIDE the roboter ... wich makes aside of the "Matanui lives!" Scene when the sky shows his eyes, completly NO sense. At the same time the lore said, that the islands themself were not due to the giant crashlanding robot throwing dirst up from the ocean ground and landing on his body parts becoming islands ... but rather because the islands formed as a disguise technic ... who in the wha- how?! ... that makes absolutely no sense, why would THE biggest and only robot able of destroying worlds be afraid of beeing discovered and have a "stealth" technoligy that lets him hide underwater and spawns Islands as camouflage ... Same with the "He was built by the ancient ones far far away" then they rewrite the lore of the robots origin beeing a bigger greater but closer planet ... it all makes no sense ... To many cooks and the one signing off the lore deserved a commen sense slap. So in short, it's up to you, I saw many versions of the story, there are few goods in between but I like mine more, based on actuall logic and sense.

A giant same of my part, it always bothered me BEYOND meassure that the commercials and actual footage of the universe was paid such little attention to, when it really was the only source of knowledge to non english speakers like myself in childhood, and now knowing english having to deal with all the minute nonsense that is just so over complicated and was so much better and simpler as a visual only thing that can be understood by everyone. And the recent circle jerk created by all these nostalgia and meme tourists to the fandom makes it impossible for you to call these things out, Bionicle was so much better off without a fandom.

Simple. The island of Mata Nui's size was a misprint.. The GSR is about the size of Earth. Both Aqua Magna & Bota Magna are around the size of Venus.. While the main fragment of Spherus Magna, Bara Magna, is about the size of Neptune.

In The Legend Reborn the island doesn’t cover the whole face at least to my eyes. Also, what if it is not exactly 40,000,000 but super close? Also, what if the robot’s model, or its head isn’t exactly to scale with the canon robot’s head/body? Also, what if there was a mixup and Farshtey was meant to write 40,000,000 meters but was confused because someone just wrote 40,000,000 m?

@@theknowledgetower208 I may have just discovered something about the proportions of the planet and the villages. For context, I asked about a video about Spherus Magna because I wanted to draw a map of the planet of my own, so I was curious about its size, but thanks to this video I got more or less an Idea so I started drawing the main continent using the its comic incarnation as base for its form. I used the size of Neptune as a reference for the planet's size until you uploaded your video. Then I added a GSR for reference and scaled it to its approximate size, and then I made a copy and shrank it to the size of the Protorype Robot. Lastly I added the official map of Bara Magna, which has scattered pieces of the Prototype Robot, and scaled it down to said Robot's size so that I could properly place the villages in my map. And that's when I realized that all the villages occupy a VERY SMALL region of the planet. Here's an early stage of my map with the villages in their more or less proper size: ( twitter.com/Garmagic2/status/1695457253480952277?s=20 ) Maybe I just got the proportions wrong but if the villages truly occupy such a small region, then this makes the Shattering much more darker than it was because that would mean that there's only a small region of Bara Magna remotely inhabitable, meaning that following the Core War there must have been a huge mass extinction for both animal and sentient life forms. Anyway, I don't know if you had already realized this on your own or not but I thought it would be worth mentioning. I'm not exactly a math guy 😅

Your video is not complete. You've finished arguing with "the most realistic size of the robot", you've calculated some pretty numbers, but have forgotten to dive into right direction of the question. Faber's size is more realistic from many points of views except one, last but definitely not the least: size of the world inside of the GSR. If you consider thickness of the robot's shell, volume of all mechanics and systems, that make him able at least move, not speaking of correct operation... The only space that left are some relatively small domes for its denizens to exist: enough for living, but clearly not enough for 100+k years of constant digging deep mines and building huge cities and civilisations. Also, what the size of continents would be? Dramatically smaller than the _island_ of Mata Nui. And, consequently, what would be the size of MU islands then? Now that simply becomes not serious at all. Well, I am not sure Farshtey actually thought about this while making up his version as well, but it's definitely more realistic for the _world_inside_ . It would be nice to come up with a compromise decision, not just throwing numbers at each other.
@VainerCactus0

There is a size difference between Metru Nui and Mata Nui. I think all the islands inside GSR are pretty small compared with Mata Nui. Also if there are elemental powers that can create matter, I think some of those issues with raw materials could be solved without mining.
