In this control engineering tutorial, we explain how to model a mass-spring-damper system in MATLAB/Simulink. We first derive a state-space model, and then we explain how to model and simulate the system in Simulink.
We also explain how to set initial states in Simulink/MATLAB.

There is a small typo at the beginning of this video in the sketch of the mass-spring damper system. On the sketch the constants b and c are permuted. The c constant is the spring constant, and b is the damping constant. However, on the graph, the c constant is placed instead of the damping constant b and vice-versa. 1:00 Small correction - c and b seem to be swapped in the picture.
