Have had a 5450 since 2014 now (110hp, older version), absolutely love it. Hands down best loader tractor i've ever driven, fast hydraulics, GREAT visibility, will be buying another one. Thanks very much George, have been keen to see one of these up close.
Nice video once again george, impressive tractor. I remember in the 80s I worked on a 7500 acre estate the biggest tractor at the time we had was a muir hill 121.
Great review George, especially 40k in reverse! 🤣🤣🤣 I thought you had played the video backwards and at speed until you said it did 40k in reverse. Looks a great tractor to me.
I recon it would be a great baling tractor for a contractor.. 145 horse would run most round balers and probably a fair few combi baler wrappers on the flat anyways.. Small and nimble for the tight fields and lanes, The fuel savings would be much better than a bigger 6 cyl too I recon..
I’m a bit like you George - I’ve never been much of a red tractor fan, but that sure looks like it would do a good all round days work! Things have certainly moved on from the old grey Ferguson days!! Excellent and informative video.
Another Great Vid George 👍 The Farm i Worked on as a Lad😊Used a 2645 110hp from a Contractor To do the Subsoiling !! Your 2 Tests you have Just Done Prove How Engines and Transmissions/Electronics have Changed What Sort of HP You Need to do the Tougher Jobs using Lighter Tractor using Less Fuel From What i Can See Its Down to The Finer Details of the Controls etc as both Look Good and Perform Well You Would need to See what Fuel Burn is on that Same Job And What is The Price of them ? In Same Spec Dealers etc
Nice well thought out little tractor, although it's hard for me to think about 145hp as little. Be interesting to see how they perform over a longer period.
I know a lad who bought a 5S145 and said it was great but couldn't pull a load any better than a 5455 He blamed the ad blue and emissions tech dragging ut down
Great video review George 👍 bein old school still think that perhaps the manufacturer is taking too much power from a small engine 🤔 what would expected life span of that be compared to for example a Ford 401, certainly a very capable little tractor 🚜💪
Will the T5 be going strong like the TW in 40 years time? Probably not. At a 140hp that engine isn't too stretched considering there are 200hp 4 pots about 👍
All the fergies have suspension on the lift arms as well the button next to the draft controls in the middle on the post but it only works when the lift is unlocked and lifted right up and it does make a fair difference on a bumpy road.
Used to be a 100 HP tractor was the size of a small house or cottage. The engineers have gotten more user friendly over the years, no more needing to climb up on a ladder to put fuel or water into it.
T5 or 5S? I think the T5 NH wins it for me, just with that gearbox, it’s awesome. Nothing against the Massey though, you get a lot of bang for your buck
As a Massey man at heart that is a cracking wee tractor, the 40k in reverse is a new thing for me too. 145 horse out of a 4 pot is ok but personally I would prefer 145 horse out of a 6 pot but thats just me thinking the six will last longer and produce more torque which is what really counts. Real good video showing right around the tractor and driving it.
With the old 10 series John deere's you could go 50K in reverse when you had a 40K gearbox and havn't tested it yet but on the new 6R 185 when you go in reverse it says that the max speed is 50K not 30K anymore
Awesome review George. Great tractor. Can you do all the brands in the same class and spec. I really enjoy tractor review videos made by you. Keep it up.
got to admit we have always had masseys on our small farm and always performed well one of ours has shuttl gears very useful especially on root crop work and plant setting but always has the power when you need it
I'm sensing an increase in compactly built powerful tractors of late. If my observations are correct, it is a welcome trend for farms such as Welsh hill farms that all too often have limited turning space on yards built on the edge of a hillside. Also of course, it makes pulling into a field off of a narrow country lane all that much easier. Both scenarios obviously when you have something like a hay trailer or longish implement on the back. This is a nice tractor - good looking too!
Good review you gave it a different test than farmer P betwen ye you get a sense of the tractor is able for the only thing left is to see its capability at PTO work 👍
Looks a lovely bit of kit George, it does make me wonder how many years a 4 pot will do pumping out 145 hp, a 4 cylinder engine is the same a 4 cylinder 20 years ago just added plenty of modern tech on it, so it will be interesting. This is random but what ever happened to Johnny1388 off of RU-vid do you think you could find out? He also had great content. Thanks
Massey has the Dyna-E double clutch gearboxes on the 8S, wouldn't be surprised if that gearbox would be a option on the smaller one's as well :) Nice looking tractor, but would suit a set of 650's Xeobib on the rear :)
we had a new holland 4930 i think ?had front loader, with pump on pto, used infield when tractors were tight but would over heat under load, good vid again, theres an estate near me ,they had a john Deere 9630 8 wheel that you would love, i have always like them.
Great video George love to see a man having fun just like a kid in a sweet shops Chandler's should gift you one 🤣👍for such a great review. Be great to see you playing with a Deutz Fahr?
The T5 would be my pick, from the videos, at least, the Dynamic Command gearbox looked smoother. The slightly bigger T6 175 or 180 DC would be worth a try. But you know you want to, get a 4220 Icon on demo 😃
A good test of them would be have the newholland, massey and whatever other manufacturers want to take part. Have a day where you have a couple of fields and have say a heavy disc and a 5 furrow plough and one pass in one and front and rear conditioner mowers, round baler and trailed harvester in the other same driver same conditions and put them all head to head and see what comes out on top
I've worked with jd a lot but grew up on massey ferguson so a little biased.. I will say the new agco power engines are the best tractor engines out there currently they are very quiet and have no quite in them, very impressive engines
What is the difference between a 5480 and this besides the sloping bonnet?Someone said that a Sisu engine once it starts to go wrong, better to replace the engine than try and keep mending,Im not convinced of the longevity of a blown 4 cylinder compared to a 6 cylinder
A nice and concise test run George, used to drive a 165 back in my day with the Perkins engine. Always been a fan of MF but will you be tempted away from the blue one. ???
Smart looking thing! The gear changes don’t seem as smooth as the T5 but nice to have the gears/forward,reverse on all he joysticks. Hmm wonder if top reverse speed is the new bale challenge for 2022… I might be in with a chance with it 🤣🤣
Hi George hope you are well, That’s a very nice tractor when I first looked at you going in reverse I had to start again that is some speed in reverse if you could turn the seat round you would not know if you was coming or going lol,Time to go so good night for now and see you on the next one, you take care of yourself and stay safe and well,🚜🚜👍⭐️⭐️
The auxiliary/ loader lever looks in a esky nice comfortable position whereas other tractors it looks too far away but having never used any loaders since the three separate lever ones. Does your arm not press on the buttons on the console when using the loader? it's only an observation. The other thing is the buttons look too small and close together but no one mentions any problems with them so must be alright.
I thought you were mucking around with the video at the start and not actually doing that speed in reverse! Lol So you going to try an 8s as well? I don't think you mentioned that....
Not keen of all the spools the same colour and the light colour cabs aren’t going keep very well but it looked a good ride. Is it four gears within a range ?
