Massive Armada Interstellar RTS! - Planetary Annihilation: Titans 

This game has one of the coolest concepts ever! But the single faction and the launch issues made it fly under the radar. Glad to see someone giving it the attention it deserves.

The general division between unit types is Air units: fastest and most mobile but fragile, meant to be massed or used in cavalry or opportunity. Walkers: faster of the ground units but lack durability, disposable and versatile. Vehicles: durable but slower than other ground units, good for defensive fights. Naval: best unit stat for cost ratio and usually best durability but limited area of movement and not useful on many planets at all. Fabricators on one type build better factories of their type. When the advanced fabricators are built they can build better defenses, mines, generators, and titans of their type. Air: Zeus, anti horde air unit. Vehicle: Ares, giant hover tank with a lot of guns for ranged combat. Good against bases. Bots: Atlas, super-anti-crowd unit that has short range and is vulnerable to air units, artillery, and base defenses. Naval doesn’t have one but hover-destroyers are strong in their own right.

Ah, I loved this game as a kid. It was such a fun RTS, and the scalability of it was so cool. One thing you might wanna note, on the galactic map there are unclaimed systems that give you a tech without needing to fight for it. You’ll see the ones you went to had orange rings, and that means they’re occupied by the orange faction. The stars with no rings are just free stuff so you’re not stuck with the starting load out your first few missions.

PA:T is a good game. It had some controversy that has mostly been forgotten by now but with the Titans part it's turned more or less into what it was aiming for. While it had some interesting ideas with the multiplanetary map it just didn't manage to take the crown from the game it was trying to succeed, Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance.

The Planetary Annihilation studio was Uber Entertainment, same people as Super Monday Night Combat, and they renamed to Star Theory and were working on KSP2 until Take Two decided they weren't anymore. afaik they are defunct now :(

So fun fact, there's a trailer out there for an RTS by the same company they didn't manage to make about basically Skynet VS Old ones.

A game I absolutely love to play and love playing with friends. One very basic thing to remember is efficiency but what that is for you is unique to you.

It's my favourite RTS by far. There are so many different ways of utterly destroying your enemies. It's not about winning the game fast, it's about winning in style.

I’m really glad some attention is being brought to this game, it’s still being updated to this day and i I really think if more people gave it a chance it would really help the game

3:55 The phrase "energy build system" brought back memories of Total Annihilation Kingdoms and now I feel melancholic nostalgia.

The thing about PA I love the most is that it doesn't restrict the player in terms of strategy at all. In most RTS games you would choose a strategy at the beginning and go with it until you either lose or win. In PA you can deploy a robot legion on the enemy planet and if that fails come along with an orbital fleet, weaponized moon, massive tank or doomsday device 5 minutes later.

i remember watching this one youtuber and his friend play in a 24 player team match if i recall correctly on what it was. the guy and his friend decided to invest everything into ragnarok. since the match started. they begun building it. however. they never left their half of the planet. until the end where they build the other end of a teleporter on another planet. the guy went to explore the planet before they left. and covering the entire other half of the planet was another team. the guy freaked out and yelled to his team mate "HOLY SHIT. ITS INFESTED. WE GOTTA GO" and so he returned before the ragnarok finished its job. and they both teleported away right before shutting off the portal. wiping out that entire team who decided to isolate themselves on a planet to build a army. without realizing they would lose it all to a ragnarok they didnt even know existed until it was too late.

Its great to see this covered after all this time. I do wish it hadnt flown under the radar when it came out though, especially since this was the game that got me to get on steam. From the moment i saw it on kickstarter i was so hyped for it, only for it to seem like i was one of the few. Thats never a fun feeling. In the end, it is tied for my favorite RTS game, alongside Supreme commander: Forged alliance. If this game had counter intel as part of it, like FA has, it would take the top spot. Overall, a very fun game to play with friends, or randoms, whether you win or die trying.

I think a lot of us just need someone important to us to grab our shoulder look us dead in the eyes and say “It’s okay to cry” really feels like a lot of people need something like that

You should definitely make some more videos on this, i got this game a couple months ago and it turned out to be one of my favorite RTS

The soundtrack of this game is so awesome !.

This studio is dead, sort of. They got roped into creating Kerbal Space Program 2, but some of the owners didn’t want to be bought by 2k, so 2k started a new studio and offered everyone jobs. A bunch of them took it, and then between that and c*v*d, the studio shut down.

I'm still mad that the company that gave us PA tried to pull away when it wasn't really finished to work on an amazing RTS concept called Human Resources when they should have known no one thought they were done with PA just from reading their own damn forum and because of that and the subsequent kickstarter failure we're never going to see the lovecraftian human sacrifice RTS >:C (also they went under or something idk)

The developers of this game were working on another game similar to planetary annihilation called "Human Resources." It had a lot of interesting concepts that I found unique to the game. Unfortunately it proved too ambitious and the project had to be scrapped. You can still watch the trailer on RU-vid I believe but I'm not too sure anymore.

Ah Planetary Annihilation. I do wish that there were differing units, as ARM and CORE had in Total Annihilation. Otherwise, it's a pretty good spiritual successor.

Subcommander is very useful, most of the time I can just defend and the subcommander would take out multiple enemy ai by itself

Holy shit, this is actually based on my favorite rts game of all time, Total Annihilation! I have to play this! I love any iteration of annihilation!

Beyond All Reason > Planetary Annihilation. And it is free. BAR is a crowd funded remake of Total Annihilation.

Glad someone finally noticed this game in 2022! The Mods carry it, but I don't see that as a bad thing. There was a game-in-progress by the same game developers, about humans summoning Lovecraftian Horrors to fight against the Robot Apocalypse (Whom are like Skynet and the Matrix robots put together). But it never came out.

People keep talking about Beyond All Reason, whilst seemingly completely ignorant of this amazing title!!! What you can do in the game is just fucking phenomenal.

This makes me think of mindustry, especially because the RTS controls that were added.

I have played this game for years, some of the mods are really cool especially the Legion Expansion. The only commanders that are better than the others are the ones from the Legion Expansion.

Damn, this game is so nostalgic and I love it. I played this first on potato PC and god whenever there is a huge clash my CPU fan screaming for help. 😂 It is just so sad that RTS genre is kinda died out so you had no other option but to play old games.

i love this game, soundtrack is nice, titans are ridiculous, so many tactics.

I got Planetary Annihilation and was upset that the actual good version of it was going to be Titans and they never really addressed the original's issues so it felt like a bait and switch. Water under the bridge, sure. But it never sat right with me, this game.

galactic war mode (and singleplayer?) has a timecontrol, and theres also a mod that adds a bunch of new techs options and starter loadouts to galwar

If you want a different faction in addition to the normal one, try the Legion expansion mod

i remember seeing a guy with like 1000 hours in this game play it.... its waaaay easier to understand whats going on now that its not going 600 shortcuts per second

It's so weird that it doesn't have active time pause. That was one of the defining, pioneering features of Total Annihilation--the game that this is supposed to be a spiritual successor to. I get that you can't use it in multiplayer, but there's no reason not to let people pause and give orders in single player.

I wish I could play this because my pc sucks so I can't but watching other people play is still fun.

Great game. Sad it had a bit of a dismal launch. Wish we had more like this. Still we can at least be happy homeworld is getting another game. Got to scratch that RTS itch.

cant watch all this now but if u see this don't forget when you putting a metal fab now to extract you click and drags and a big green>? cercal will come out of your fab unit and it will automatically put the buildings on every metal fab that the green cercal hits

it reminds me of supreme commander... only, you have to clear out entire planets at a time instead of a small 80 squar km areas

This Game looks like Metal Fatigue if some one remember it 😆

The issue i had with this was (it felt like) they launched it immediately after people had spent so much funding the first planetary annihilation. It just looked like a cash grab. A full release wich should have been an exspansion. Good news now is there is a very cheep upgrade package on steam

The thing about this game is that it does have a time pause, but its in the pause menu for some reason. Very annoying to get to in the middle of a tense battle

This just makes me miss Total Annihilation! The Sci-Fi one, not the fantasy version.
