Such an amazing creature, a living fossil. Crocodilians have survived several cataclysmic events and mass extinctions throughout earth's history. They have been living alongside dinosaurs and remained mostly unchanged for millions of years. They are among nature's toughest survivors, very effective hunters, and highly adaptable. They have been there long before us and will continue to thrive long after we are gone.

@AJ56

@@darkfyre1618 leaving earth is very much a reality my friend, not sci fi. We have landings as far out as mercury to Saturn (gas giant no hard surface to actually land) and our spacecraft have even managed to leave the solar system (Voyager 1). You’ve answered your own question, any interplanetary species has an exponentially higher chance of survival should it’s home planet be destroyed or rendered inhospitable for whatever reasons. Leaving earth is critical to long term survival for humanity.
@darkfyre1618
@darkfyre1618 10 месяцев назад
@@AJ56 Of course, leaving Earth once it's resources have been completely diminished by the great human species. Our technology is primitive compared to what is being shown in Sci-fi movies. What? Do you believe there's a habitable planet waiting for us out there? Keep dreaming. We don't have all the time in the universe, either you like or not we will face extinction sooner or later and nothing can change that. Although I'm going to give you points for your optimistic mindset.

@@darkfyre1618 You should check NASA SpaceX, very informative and has a lot of R&D going on for off world mining and colonizing, with fusion possible soon enough fusion space engines will be the way to go for better propulsion and that means cheaper cost per take off and reusable propulsion engines aka spaceships. With today rockets, NASA was able to cut the cost by half and more designs coming once fusion cores are a reality which is just matter of time now probably by late 2050s.

Someone in the comment section said they used to live there and that the gator is like a local celebrity and very docile, which is why no one was freaking out. Gators aren't as agressive as crocodiles, so people are just more careful around water especially with kids and pets, and are fine. Gators don't hunt on land, and their main prey is fish, sometimes water birds and other reptiles, so they aren't that dangerous as long as people are mindful.

This video could have played like a horror movie with the right background music. I grew up in El Paso and am terrified of rattlesnakes, so I join the military at 18, got high enough tech school grades to get second choice of preferred places to be stationed, and pick Florida... where, as it turns out, there are even BIGGER rattlesnakes... and these big lizards. I actually ended up having to get into the manhole and chase a gator to the next manhole (on Patrick AFB), where Animal Control noosed him and took him out to release him somewhere. I peed a lot that day, and never volunteered for anything again.

Australia does not have Alligators but we have Saltwater crocodiles (nicknamed 'Salties'), which are possibly - seriously - the most aggressive and fearsome animal on earth. They can and do grow to astonishing lengths. There's a famous very old one in the Northern Territory which is nearly as big as the tourist boat which takes visitors out on to the river to see it jump out of the water to be fed. There are no mitigating features about these creatures. They are incredibly fast both in the water and on land, and have been known to attempt tree-climbing to reach stranded (human) potential victims. There are no second chances with an Australian Saltie. No-one in their right mind would go near or get in water where they are known to be, but of course there are are always going to be the ignorant and stupid few who take a chance and usually don't survive. We also have freshwater crocodiles and people don't take them seriously enough either. They don't have the reputation Salties do, but a croc is a croc. A freshwater mauled a man not long ago. I saw the film footage online (was it in Florida ?) of the Alligator which dragged that poor old lady into the lake and killed her. I was both astounded and heartbroken that she must have seen it coming but didn't try to get away. Her dog was certainly alarmed ! Are people that blase about safety concerns with these animals over there, that she didn't seem to be concerned until it grabbed her ? Pets and children must be at risk at all times. My solution: move. Move far away.
