MASSIVE Indian Blade & Arrowheads Found in Creek - Everything is Bigger in Texas!

After finding a nice little point on our first visit to a new creek late last Summer, Durwood and I decide to go back the following summer (2021) to see if anything else might be hiding in some of the gravel bars and rock beds along the water. To our surprise, we end up finding even more artifacts, including a handful of arrowheads and two Native American blades (knives). ~ Cody 'R.S.'

The 2nd large blade with the lines in it looks to be Alibates flint from the Texas panhandle. The smaller point is a Dalton. It could be palio into transitional period. All 3 pieces are probable late Paleo dating them back to at least 6,500 BC. Great finds! The creeks in the area you are hunting is know for a lot of paleo finds.

Thanks for the info on those Keven! Hopefully we can get back out to that creek this Summer and search for more.

12:55 That blade is made from Kay County chert, that is crazy it has traveled that far. Stuff is found in limestone outcrops in Southern Kansas and Northern Oklahoma. If it is pink or red in hue, that means it was heat treated.

You guys are some of the luckiest dudes in the world. You could go a lifetime without finding one nice blade, much less finding two in one day, I've found bigger and older, but you have the most beautiful. That one with the striations probably was believed to have magical powers and would have belonged to a medicine man or healer. Congratulations.
@DownSouthDiggers
@DownSouthDiggers Год назад
Thanks Vester! We definitely consider ourselves lucky for finding those, but as you probably know, most hunts never turn out like that one. There have been so many days where we hiked for miles without finding a single thing worth picking up. But that’s how it goes sometimes… Just gotta keep pounding the ground!

Wow some rare types. The first seems to be a mid archaic dart point the second a cobbs knife made of rootbeer flint the third is a Dalton/ sanpatrice crosstype. The last is zebra patterned petrified wood. Texas has some cool stuff in the creeks good luck hunting!

Thanks for all the info on these! We’ve only been hunting points for a few years now and are still learning typology and identification. So it’s nice when others in the community share their knowledge and expertise with us. Hopefully we can find some more interesting or rare types this summer to show y’all. Until then, good luck & happy hunting!

Love them blades. I have looked all through Arkansas and Oklahoma. I’ve metal detected for over 38 years now, and my late father even longer and sold them as well. We save our detecting when it gets colder so the ticks and chiggers are gone. I also make Native American artifacts. Since I’m a Cherokee Nation citizen and direct descendant of Chief John Ross, I’d love to hunt Texas creeks again. I’ve been meaning to get me some Texas stone so I could knap some tools or blades. Good job

Congrats on some great finds! The fishtail point is a Dalton type, about 9000 years old. Both big blades are killer, and anything that size is rare in North Texas. That last blade may be intentionally altered to create a "spokeshave" on one side; see if it's chipped along the inside of the "break." Killer hunts, guys! Congrats again.
@DownSouthDiggers
@DownSouthDiggers 3 года назад
Thanks Lewis! We really appreciate the information. I’ll see if the ‘break’ is clean on the last blade, or if it looks like it’s been worked. I’m thinking that piece probably just broke off at some point on the journey down that creek. But anyway… Hope you’re doing well and finding some amazing artifacts. Good luck out there!!!

Well, consider yourself lucky… Because last month, 27 of the 31 days in July were 100 degrees (or over) here in North Texas!… The AVERAGE high temp was actually 102.4! We also had 9 days at the end of June that were 100 or over, as well as these first three days of August, which means we’ve had 39 days so far of 100+. On top of that, I cannot even tell you the last time it rained… There were no recordable amounts last month at all. So… Roll on Winter, indeed!

That blade made to be mounted in a stick like a draw knife or gutting hook look for thinning flakes at an angle across the blade in the middle your fingers will fit across where the stick went when u used it the point was drawn toward you like when u stick a blade in a piece of wood and draw leather into it to cut just like that in reverse the edge that has the concave edge was the side doing the cutting and while still mounted has been touched up giving that concave profile!

@@DownSouthDiggers your welcome sir after finding many of these and also tear drop shaped ones we pondered about its use and after realizing that all had been touched up on one side and the end and that all had the same intentional thinning across the middle they are kind of cool giving you the cutting blade which forces the leather in the junction of the stick and the blade like a hook knife and the bottom of the blade is exposed like a small flint celt for removing hides great finds guys!
