someone else here watching this during a pandemic two years after she posted it and just being so happy for her that she got to buy cute masks in japan?
Yes, 12:07 to 12:37 hit so differently now. If I felt comfortable enough to travel right now, then I wouldn't care what others thought. I'd wear a mask to be considerate.
The question is Alex ? Have you used them now? At least at the beginning of the pandemic? I know they aren't N95, but just for aesthetic? I miss your videos so I came back to the beginning and Wow how life changes in 3 years. Sanrio will never leave my system, I'm 51; but I feel dumb wearing Sanrio. So not fair to age. Even you haven't worn any Sanrio that I've noticed on your pages. I bet your nurseries will have Sanrio for sure. 🥰
Pensei a mesma coisa.
I love it how she is going on a tangent on if she this wearing masks are culturally appropriation, while here in 2020, it is now an everyday necessity.
Many people assume the Japanese wear surgical masks because they’re sick, but the number one reason for wearing them is actually due to allergies. Masks with fun patterns or brand logos turned them into a fashion accessory. Wearing a disposable mask has the practical use of keeping your face warm in the colder months and no matter what the season, they can also be used as a quick cover-up when you don’t feel like showing the world your no-makeup face. They also offer anonymity and a break from social interaction. By wearing a mask, you not only make yourself less approachable, but you no longer have to put effort into the interactions you do have and react accordingly with a smile, frown or laugh, because no one can see it (although wearing masks to avoid social interaction is the exception , not extremely common). Of course, people do continue to use the masks for health reasons as well. Sales jump during cold and flu outbreaks and public health scares. In high-density cities where people spend hours each day in close quarters with strangers, masks offer a bit of protection from the spread of airborne illness, and so much more. - culture trip
Wow so thorough! Came here to say this but you beat me to it! I live in Japan and recently had bad allergies and my nose would not stop running! So I wore a mask so I didn’t have to worry about makeup or showing people my gross nose. When I worked in schools, they’d make everyone wear masks during flu season, but it actually doesn’t help bc kids are gross and don’t wash their hands and constantly touch the masks. They’re a good tool for allergies and showing others you’re trying not to get them sick if you have a cold, but a lot of people don’t know how to use them so idk how much they actually help.
This is pretty accurate! I have a friend who wears a mask every time she doesn't wear makeup haha. Also I remember on the news a couple yeas ago someone robbed a store downtown and was wearing a mask so more or less the anonymity thing works (although it was bad in this case)
If only they read the instructions. Surgical masks only work for 20 minutes to an hour depending on the brand and quality. I work in dental so I wear about 10 masks a day. Once they become moist from the inside due to our breath or any spittle from speaking behind the mask you compromise the effectiveness of the mask.
Archie is my new favorite RU-vidr tbh he is always honest in his reviews and says what he is thinking. Very good bird boy and the perfect shade of green which also happens to be my favorite color.
the masks are so popular in japan because they have many purposes, you don´t have to fell bad to use them for whatever you want! people use them for: - they are ill and don´t want others to get infected - they don´t want to get sick while being around so many germs outside - they don´t have time/don´t want to put on makeup but still want to go out - it´s winter and those things keep the face warm - fashion acessory (e.g. "decora" or some punk/lolita styles often use them, if you just google decora you will see tons of people with colorful masks^^) at least thats what I have heared from people living in japan regrading this topic.^^ so really, no need to feel bad about using them. Some countries have laws against covering the face in public, so maybe research that before you wear them out. I wouldn´t be allowed to wear these here in Germany because it´s just not allowed to cover the face in public areas ^^ll
They also wear them because of allergies especially during spring for obvious reasons 😅. But now the whole world is wearing masks so the issue kinda resolved anyway... shame it’s in such awful circumstances 😔.
it's very common in east asian countries to wear masks, even if they're not sick! lots of people wear them to airports or even just walking around in public. east asian culture is heavily concentrated on image so people like to hide their faces sometimes, especially when they're not wearing makeup. also, there are masks made out of fabric instead of the material that "sick masks" are made of (i'm not entirely sure what material it is) and they can be worn on colder days so your face is kept warmer. so it's perfectly okay to just wear a mask for the ~aesthetic~ or just around in public
Girl, don't worry about being "grown up" and liking the Sanrio stuff. I'm twice your age (literally), and I fell in love with Hello Kitty when she hit the world back in 1976! And guess what? I still love her and all the rest that have come along. Idea: You have such thick hair, you should try a messy updo look and use your HK chopsticks as hair sticks. The child length chopsticks would be the perfect size.
Since you don’t want to throw away any cute plastic packaging, you could always turn it into a cute diy candy/plastic wrapper bag, there are a whole bunch on Pinterest and on Etsy. You could make a cute pastel wallet or coin purse :)
I use plastic moulds all the time. There are different types of plastic. And if you have the wrong type there is mould release. On fact, half the moulds that are sold for resin are plastic and half are silicone.
Japanese girls often wear masks if they don't feel like putting on make-up! Japan values dressing well a lot so in order to not "hurt their image" they'll just do something like mascara and put on a mask so... obviously you can wear the masks if you feel like it!
@@leogayboy8977 Not really, Japan isn't very polluted. There's many other reasons for Japanese people to wear them, but polution isn't really one of them.
A friend i know in England once compared it to the USA version of candy (99 percent of us just mean chocolate) where as for him candy doesn't necessarily mean chocolate it just means basically anything sweet from lollies to hard candies
If you have the shelf space, lay the tinfoil over a shelf and get 2 pieces of glass cut (bunnings) to fit over the shelf and it preserves the printed foil and you could decorate it with all your cute twin stars/hello kitty stuff!
I don't know much about Japan but I do know that in Korea there are many people who wear face masks of all kinds for fashion and things like that (not just the idols but other people as well) so I think that you would be ok to wear it whenever you wanted and it wouldn't be seen as disrespectful!
I was watching this vid and my mom looked over & was like “She’s so cute”, she usually looks at me like “wtf are you watching??” so I think she approves 😂❤️
YOUR HAIR IS SO CUTE TODAY PLEASE DO IT AGAIN DURING A HAUL PLEASEEEEE! lolol Also, archie looks exceptionally green today! Great video, love ya so much!
That hello kitty bottle top is meant for you to stick a plastic straw in it. :) Also, people in Japan (where I live) wear masks when they're sick, if they don't want to catch anything during flu and cold season, for allergies, or just if they don't feel like wearing makeup/are breaking out/whatever. So no Japanese person at least would judge you.
Hey! I work on props and special fx items and know a little bit about resins. If you use a release agent you should be able to pop the resin out of the plastic moulds. However due to the plastic being hard and the resin being hard there is a very high chance that the mould will break. If your looking to only make one of each design that should work fine but just a bit of advice :) also be super careful what you colour your resin with as certain things can react really badly. Hope the DIY goes well though. Happy to help if you need any advice. Ps: eBay have lots of sanrio silicone moulds
I'm here, in 2020 laughing... and crying... at Alex spending about 5 minutes worried about wearing a mask being offensive or not...... if you only knew what is ahead Alex... if you only knew..
Same. Like she already paid for the shoes. Just shipping cost was left. Yet they sold it to someone else and didn't pay her back. Bet the shoes weren't cheap
For the things you don't want to use: make a cute scrapbook! you could get like a pastel pink bullet journal where you can put pieces of the alfoil and the kids of the Pokémon candy (I think it's so weird you call them lollies? I imagine lolly pops when you say that) and all the other cute stuff. Or you could get one of those poster panels (in pastel) and make a moodboard :3
I was chilling while watching to the video, nobody home, everything quiet and dark and all of a sudden a loud ass noise happened and I had no idea where it came from almost pooped myself and then I backed up the video a little bit and it was archie screaming in a very weird way at 50:21
I'm like that with chopsticks too :) I have Gerd and problems with the lining of my stomach. Chopsticks help me eat slower so the food in my stomach has more time to break down and not irritate the lining.
I wear face masks because my lungs are weak and THE AIR CAN BE VERY AGGRESSIVE. I'm wearing one right now because I have an upper respiratory infection and dont want to spew lung juice at everyone.
one thing I like to do when budgeting during a long trip is to set an amount you can spend each day you're traveling specifically for shopping (adding up to your total amount you wish to not go over) and whatever you don't spend that day rolls over to the next so if there's an item you really love but goes over your budget you can save a bit each day to then go back and get it. idk just something I do cuz I know I spend too much!
Even though there's lots of great comments from folks explaining, I thought I'd still leave my two cents lol. While I get your apprehension in terms of questioning "is this culturally insensitive?" which is also a great thing to question when trying to appreciate different customs and cultures, it's more about practicality/not spreading sickness and also an easy/cheap accessory. Yami kawaii fashion incorporates face masks a lot because it's meant to be a sort of "sick cute" aesthetic and also uses things like jewellery that look like hypodermics and surgical tools, bandages and lots of other cool creepy stuff and black played off soft pastel colours and that dripping bubble style of font is also pretty popular. So there's all that, but for me, I like wearing them sometimes because 1) I work with kids and I don't want to get them sick if I'm unwell because their mama needs me to work. 2) you can get them in cute colours and patterns so you can feel cute without lots of makeup on. 3) It's Winter here in Aus as I'm sure you know and my face gets super cold in the Winter. 4) Normally I'm seen as VERY approachable to strangers and they really do offset a bit of that and I tend to get bothered by random men much less. ANYWAY. This video is cute and u r also cute have a grand day mate xox
I just found your channel today and I was hoping the second half of your Japan haul would be up! You’re so pretty and Archie is adorable, definitely glad I subscribed
Aw, you never made those other videos! Would love to see the Fox Village, Starbucks, and Universal! I adore your travel vlogs because you put so much effort into explaining everything. Would love more travel videos from you!
Why not use those chocolate hello kitty molds to put some plaster in creating the shape just like you would using chocolate.. then you can take silicone after that to make a mold of the plaster shapes. Then you would have silicone molds to use instead of trying to get resin out of the plastic mold. Just a thought. :)
I love you so much. Every time you upload I see you growing and I can really see how happy you are making RU-vid videos. You’re such a change from the people I watch who I can really tell only are in RU-vid for the money. I can see that you actually enjoy making content and it makes me really happy :,) also Archie is adorable ever since i started watching you I’ve been begging my mom for a bird lol
You gotta try the dip for your nails!!! It’s the best! Your nails will naturally grow long and hard and it lasts 3-4 weeks and it’s not bad for your nails like acrylics. You can even do tips if you want.
Alexandra S there are different brands but the one I did was called Nexgen. Also I’ve heard of a lot of places advertising that they use dip but it’s actually not and they are doing acrylic or using horrible quality types. It’s usually abt $40 and you can add tips with dip as well. It’s breathable and not nearly as harsh taking it off as acrylics. Also, if you have a good nail tech it will last the full 4 weeks or longer. My nails have always been bendable and fragile and using the dip has allowed me to grow my nails super long and they are extremely hard with the dip. Dip, btw, is just a powder nail polish and no lights are needed. You can even ask for a neutral nail color and then you can paint your nails at home whatever color you want and of you find the right tech they can also do designs, ombré, put jewels. I love it!!! I’ve never done acrylics bc of all the bad things that go along along with having acrylics. I’ve done gel and I feel that totally ruined my nails as well and that’s just gel I couldn’t imagine what acrylics would do to my nails. But anyway, dip is still fairly new and it’s slowly getting recognized. Check it out on google and see if it’s something for you. 💖
you should do Totoro Wish haul! There is a lot of Totoro items on wish for quite cheap. I know you done Wish Hauls before, but you never done a theme one, and seeing how much you seem to like totoro and how hard it is to find in Australia you might find some good quality items there which will be worth the price?
I thought the first Archie noise was my mum calling through the house because it was muffled like when she comes home and says "'elooo"and I just went round the house being like "mum? Hello? mum?" (bearing in mind, I'm 18) and got totally freaked out when I couldn't find her.... Thanks Archie... (Love you really)
Nah, it's not rude to wear them for the aesthetics. They actually sometimes wear them to hide the fact that they didn't do their makeup or that they have acne, or simply as a fashion statement (like, visual kei or decora sometimes do). I lived in Japan, so I thought they got sick a lot, but no.. they just use them for everything. They DO, however, get pollen allergy during spring, so that's the reason you see them wear masks more during that season.
I'm so sad cause I just found your channel and I have done watched everything while getting ready for the gym every morning. My 6 year old loves Archi so much . We love laughing at his big personality. You are amazing and I love watching you.
Neeew videooooo!! I’ve been binge-watching your videos for the last couple of days, so a new one is amazing. You (and Archie - can’t forget about him) are my favourite youtuber(s - plural if we count Archie as a youtuber, which I do)!!! You are amazing, and keep up the good work!! Btw the cookies expire 18th September ;)). Here in Denmark we use that way when writing expire-dates :)
Laura Frederikke That's a little odd because here in Germany we write it the same but it would be September 8, 2018. Hmmmmmmmm. Well that makes sense. The dates and meanings can differ. Guess I learned something new.
Belle Patterson I think I was too fast forward in the way I wrote it. It’s obviously 8th September 2018. If it was the other way around they would have expired in 2008 :) I didn’t read the whole thing before writing the comment ;)
I just wanted to pop in and say as for the masks (I call them respirators), they're absolutely wonderful if you have allergies or hay fever. My Japanese college professor and I spoke about it a few months back and she said it was nice to see because she thinks it's is polite if you're sneezy or coughy to cover your mouth and nose (something that a lot of Americans seem to forget to do. ew). But also I'd say it's silly to wear for fashion reasons, it's cool to use it for functional reasons. Personally I'm allergic to grass and pollen so during the spring and summer I wear them whenever I have to be outside a lot. As long as you can handle people looking at you like you're a weirdo, then they're great. I hope they become more of a regular thing here, I feel like they'd be very helpful especially in college life areas.
Yes that is why i am here looking for the first video i watched. I am pretty sure it was something with hello kitty in it and she showed the hello kitty object in her shelf
I would love to see a video of you playing the sims! All the greatest youtubers do at some point and it is always hilarious. Plus your sim and how you’d decorate would be so cute 💕
Oh my goodness You’ve no idea how happy I got just seeing that you had a video up My anxiety has been excruciating the last few days so to see you had a video made me smile like a crazy lady Yayyyy
