After a journey half-way around the globe, four massive steam generators are offloaded from a barge at the Watts Bar Nuclear Plant. Each weighing approximately 400 tons, a special heavy lift hauler with 72 wheels is required to transport them the final leg of the journey from the river to the plant. The steam generators transfer heat from the reactor to make steam which spins a large electrical generator creating energy. We are investing in our nuclear fleet which supplies our largest source of reliable, carbon-free energy. The new units will be stored onsite and installed in an upcoming maintenance and refueling outage.
