I'm a small time landlord. My tenants are human beings. Good tenants are not easy to find. I could raise the rents, but several tenants are struggling as it is. And although I'd like more $ for me, I'm doing ok. Corporate ownership of rental property and lack of competition in the food biz is what's causing inflation. Teddy Roosevelt was the "Trust Buster." Instead of being in competition with each other to see who can attract customers with better products and prices, they work together to make sure we get screwed no matter where we go.
@user-oe6ol4mf2q
@user-oe6ol4mf2q 21 день назад
@neilmarshall5087 yeah I got kicked out of the local box store for trying that... and there is a bit of math ... but I can tell you this easy part.. most places the Big Blue One and the big M of Michigan in particular no longer make any sausage in house from pork trim they throw it away and out source that product. That's why whole pork shoulder will be on sale for $1.69 but Pork Shoulder Steak will still be $3.49-4.29lb... it was the same for beef trim and burger for a while but from what I've been told at least that is changed. But I can literally walk down the meat case and show how pricing doesn't reflect supply and demand any more. I haven't figured out any particular system it looks very arbitrary to me. When I worked at the Big Blue Club... they had a guy who's job was to empty the good product from produce cooler into the dumpster to make room for the new truck. When I questioned this practice with the district director he matter of factly told me "at least our competitors didn't have it to sell and it helps us drive up the wholesale market on them too." I left not too long after that... I personally couldn't participate in that sort of f*ckery.

Separate Oil companies have been doing this with each other for years and they got by with it and still do even maybe after being sued. So they get sued and the other companies may not even know what happens to other companies who have been sued and the ultimate consequences of the planned actions they might take. So what is going to be done about it is whats important and constant scrutiny of those results published is the only way other industries will not follow this pattern because they see what could happen to them if they do. This problem will also continue to surface, over and over again, for as long as we allow small corporations to merge into big ones. Harris' plan on "price gouging" is about breaking up a monopolized food industry. It's not about imposing price limits on the food industry. Monopolies stifle competition and competition is the main engine of our free capitalist economy. Competition is what controls pricing, monopolies control and eliminate competition, thereby controling pricing indirectly. Only six companies control 85% of US beef production, 80% of corn seed distribution, 75% of fertilizers and 65% of grocery marketing. Breaking up a monopoly and allowing more competition to enter the industry and offer more supply at cheaper costs is the only way to bring down pricing. That's how she lowers prices, by breaking up monopolies not imposing price caps.

More stories like this, please! Also, please look at the banks, as they produce reports with average savings for the bottom 60% of earners. These spreadsheets of data are given, or possibly sold, to all types of business, and if the aggregate savings levels get too high, ta-dah, prices go up! This affects housing, insuance, travel, automobiles, retail, etc, etc, etc. Computers have made keeping the poor poorer even easier. 🤬

@@bartdoo5757 I believe he is saying that banks produce reports on the level of savings for Americans and banks know everyone's income level because of direct deposit/how much money and checks are cashed/go into the accounts. These reports would then reveal if Americans are starting to save a good cushion and hence be able to take increased prices via higher food, higher rent, higher insurance etc. They produce the reports that allow other corporations to know when they can raise prices to expand their profits rather than because "the market rate goes up". Because basically every sector is a monopoly and they are also all seeing the same reports so if all 3 companies in a sector like meat see the Americans have more disposable income they know it's time to jack prices up and collect and everyone else will be doing the same.

I think you're also talking about wealth inequality. The stock market has skyrocketed in the last 30 years. It has gone up about 20x. On the other hand, the median income has only gone up about 25%. This means that the stock holders (mostly the top .1%) have taken 98.975% of the wealth created. It's pretty sick. Remember all the talk about trick-down economics? How if you lower taxes, it will stimulate the economy? Well, it did stimulate the economy as we can see via the stock market. The problem is the wealth didn't trickle down. This is exactly why the government has to use income tax as a way to redistribute wealth. Raise taxes on the .1% and then literally redistribute the money back to the bottom 99%. But the .1% doesn't want to give the money back. Kinda what you would expect.
