TOMATOES put off a whole lot of water when thawing. Make sure to put them in a large vessel (clean sink) when taken out. The skins will slip off very easily. Freeze dry the skins then powder for homemade tomato paste / thickening to add to loose sauce, soups, roasts, etc. That powder will be a great asset for large family meals. So easy and convenient...and cost effective. I have processed most of our tomatoes already; soooo, now I live vicariously through you;) I so enjoy processing / preserving fresh food for my family to consume during the upcoming year. Such a feeling of satisfaction! Thank you for sharing!!!
My uncle has had beef and dairy cows for all his life (6th generation farmer) and for as long as I can remember they’ve always feed pumpkins to their cows! My best memories growing up were of seeing those truckloads of pumpkins for the cows, now my kids are enjoying that as well! So fun! Glad you got so many!
No need to peel your tomatoes when canning and/or freezing. When ready to use just blend them up in the blender. The skins add nutrients and make for a prettier color.
When you eat through a jar of dehydrated raspberries, Save that raspberry dust!!! It is a nice addition to chocolate pudding, or a sprinkle on plain yogurt. I have even added it to brownies and mixed it into cheesecake batter. There are so many things you could do.
Jamerill, have some of the older kids dig out the pumpkin seeds from several pumpkins, save some for planting and roast a lot for a healthy snack for the family. If you have a food mill, it will make the seeds easier to separate from the guts.
I love the cabinet and jars of dehydrated foods, it just looks so country. Can you please do a quick video on the foods you have dehydrated and what they look like close up, and the textures of each one when either cut into bits, or bitten into. Thanks!!! 💞.
Ok Jamerrill, I hope you are watching your back. That's amazing that your store does that about the pumpkins rather than just throw them away. What a great way to feed your animals a supplement. Do you process any for yourself for cooking? Thanks for sharing your adventures with us .🤗🤗💜💜
Oh my goodness I would be in "punkin" heaven! There are soooooo many ways to cook and bake with them. I'd be roasting and making puree to freeze for days!!
Those "warty" pumpkins are some of my all time favorites to eat. Those are actually called peanut pumpkins and are delicious. I see so many pie pumpkins in your vehicles. SO JEALOUS. That is a little bit of eating heaven there
When I drove by there the other day, I noticed that the massive parking lot full of pumpkins were gone. Now I know where they went! Orange poop for months to come!!!!
my sister who is a veg garden guru. wraps her green toms in newspaper to ripen! Also can for sweet tomato pie, etc. Pumpkins. process for canning pulp for pies, soup, breads, cupcakes, etc
You have some good winter squash for pie making and maybe some meals too. We use Azure animal feed for our chickens and rabbits. Some like it better than others, depending on the specific animal and specific grain. It's like feeding a house full of children We really feel it is best to know what you are feeding the egg and meat producers. So easy, convenient and affordable. All good things! We also get the black oil sunflower seeds. The kelp granules can also be used in the garden: we are sprinkling over kelp granules with leaves then covering for winter.
If you ever want to try something new with your quinoa, try a little honey and some sunflower seeds and salt if the sunflower seeds aren’t salted. It’s heavenly. Best breakfast ever!
If you can grab some pallets store the pumpkins on top of them. You can also put down some straw in a cool dry place. Don’t let them freeze OR lay on the ground.
Did you all catch a glipse of the "canning wall" and two mama chairs??? Can't wait to see them officially...looks so cozy! Wonderful pumpkin and azure haul!!! Fun with the freeze dryer...got that thing going 24/7 I bet!! Love input from Becky and mom!!
Hey there! I shared all the details and a full tour of the new hutch and chair sitting area here in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-B68zhDBwHEg.html ❤️❤️❤️
I love this pumpkin saving deals because if no one did well they will just rot somewhere. This place is amazing and it obviously makes them super happy to get the pumpkins to people who can use them and they do not go to waste!! I buy not that brand though but a strawberry kefir and oh yes they are going to LOVE it and that is really good :) wonderful video hugs
Our local orchard takes their leftover pumpkins to a farm.❤ THOSE BEAUTIFUL STEMS…I made fabric pumpkins and use real pumpkin stems. They also sell real pumpkin stems on eBay. I love to collect the broken off stems when I go to the orchards. When I use to freeze tomato’s, I just cored them, bag and freeze. Yes the skin does come right off but not the core. Awesome video, I love Becky’s channel to.
Hey Jamerrill I saw Becky on Acre Homestead has lots of pumpkin recipes and also for long term storage she says to wipe down with white vinegar to kill bacterial spores so they last longer for your use. Also on the tomatoes if you choose to run them through a sauce miller the pulp and stuff you can dehydrate or freeze dry and have a whole other by product, that can season with and cook with.
I think you can become your own drop location by ordering over $550. It may be worth it for some people to get together with neighbors or family and start a drop site. There’s information on the Azure site.
Trying to manage all this food is a full-time job! I can't imagine all the other 100 tasks that go into taking care of your large family. Always such great ideas. Won't it be fun to decorate the new kitchen for Christmas? Or, are you going to decorate it for Christmas?
I just love pumpkins, and they are so versatile, Pumpkin pies, Pumpkin Spice drinks, pumpkin cake, pumpkin muffins, roasted pumpkin seeds. The possibilities are endless. I wish we had an Azure drop off closer here in Northern Michigan, but it will probably be another few years before I can actually make it worthwhile ordering from Azure. In the meantime, I will drool over your hauls...lol😀
Pumpkins are allso delicious oven roasted. Do it the easy way. Wash pumpkin . Leave it whole. Make 2 or 3 vent holes. Be sure to get right through to center . You will feel the difference when you reach it. Place on baking sheet (L recomend using parchment paper to make cleanup easier ) Place in 350 degree oven. When it starts to sink down into itself test for donness using a knife. When it reaches the desired texture remove from oven and let cool till cooled enough to handle . so much easier to clean out seeds. Great as a veg or in pies etc.
Jamerill I know it’s easier for me to can 7 cans of tomato products at a time ( because that’s what fits in my canner) and if I can do that daily, I find that at the end of the month, all of my frozen tomatoes are done. ( 7 isn’t overwhelming and I can do that while doing other task)
Just if anyone is curious like I was currently the eco flow river 2 is one sale for $219 from $299! Those raspberries and blackberries are so pretty in those jars!! That’s a lot of pumpkins!! The animals will love them! With all those seeds you could p,ant your own pumpkin patch next year!! I have some fun gourds that I’m going to try and plant next year!!
Love your videos. That was funny with using the electric can opener for the tuna.....pretty sure you have a hand held can opener in your emergency box LOL.
Jamerrill, cut up a few of those pumpkins and get those seeds out and bake them? They make great snacks for kids. Unless you have seed allergies, then forget about it.. wonderful haul! Hope you are feeling better! Blessings
Re: green tomatoes...see Jennifer Brockman from A Country Life...she just did a very simple green tomato salsa & canned them...says they taste excellent! Glad you had the crew help you with the ~hauls~...watch that back!!!
Beautiful pumpkins!Picking up free pumpkins tomorrow for pumpkin breads.. Just cut gut and cut off rind, cook down and run in blender! Makes great pumpkin butter also!. Nice haul!
Good Morning! I Love Azure Standard! What a great Haul!! Seeing we feed 13 people 6 times a day, Azure is a blessing! Oh my gosh, the Pumpkins!! Love it!!
Hi, my guess is 27 quarts?! Allowing for space in jar and stem remove only! I have not canned in years, due to medical issues! Last canning was apple sauce! Bought utility apples not the drop apples! Macintosh in my area, are meatier! 40lbs yielded 3- dozen pints and 16 quarts! The kids helped out with eating, along the way! Good memories! I will also say 3-lbs of raisins were added to give variety! My Mom's recipe is 4lbs apples, 1/2 to 3/4 cup sugar, 1& 1/2 tsp. cinnamon,1/4 tsp. nutmeg,1tsp. butter, 1tsp.vanilla, 24oz. water! Peel and core apples, add water and butter! Simmer approx. 10-12 minutes, then add sugar, and vanilla, mix-in cinnamon & nutmeg! Somehow, being done in stages adds flavor?! another 15- or 20-minutes simmer time! Reminder be careful not to burn, stir kettle as needed! Depending on desired texture, you may have to adjust time! Thank-You! God-Bless!
I just did a huge stock pot of our Italian gravy (pasta sauce). I froze all our tomatoes from our garden and then one day I set them in my fridge to thaw and the skins slip right off.
Have you ever tried fried green tomatoes they are delicious And dip the tomatoes into your egg Wash and then dip them into seasoned flour fry them in a Oil
I loved watching this and reading about how people got extremely cheap or free pumpkins. There is a LP family with a pumpkin patch on their farm that charges $27 entry fee per adult and $10 or $12 per child to enter and do activities which may have an additional charge and then purchase a pumpkin and souvenirs. It’s all about money anymore. Your video shows caring and compassion from your pumpkin farmer. The world needs more of this.
Jamerril you shouldn't be lifting like you did! You still need healing..just a momma to another momma..Yeah on all you got for your family and animals..great video ♥️
You should cook some of the pumpkins up then either freeze it or put in cars and can them for pumpkin pie, bread , muffins, cookies or other things for later.makes it better than buying store can pumpkin.
My dad would get 2 whole cows and 2 whole pigs. We had 6 freezer one freezer was for the 2 whole cows one freezer was for the 2 whole pigs one freezer use for chickens and ducks and seafood and fish.one freezer use for freezing vegetables and one use for freezing fruit one would be use for ice cream and cheese and breads.
I would have crushed up some of those raspberries to make raspberry powder for toppings on frosted cakes or even ice creams. Mmmmm, lol, you have it all and I enjoy your videos all the time. Thank you for sharing. I loved the pumpkin haul! lol Enjoy your weekend Jamerrill!
