Massive volcanic explosion on Hunga Tonga Hunga Ha'apai. January 15th (spaceviews and tsunami)

The eruption started on 20th december 2021. The Island grew by more than 50% and it was thought is was coming to rest after this big eruption. But past night on the 15th of january the largest eruption on this Island till now occurred and it could be seen from space. A Tsunami was wittnessed but the warnings have been lifted now
It is thought to be at least 7 times bigger than the eruption from past december and that was also a very big one.

Very nice footage and satellite views! I wonder which came first - collapse of newly added landmass triggering the eruption, or vice versa? Perhaps nearby seismometer data could tease that apart. As an aside, it would be great if you could credit your sources in the description.

Will add the credits asap. Ws in a hurry to put out the movie. The lava buildup underground was not released in december and the new mass atop probably made this explosion possible

This is very informative, especialy the part showing the tsunami hitting the coastline. I thought, the tsunami might be to small to, maybe even be noticed at all, now i see it was a bit more than that. Thankfully it seems it was not serious enough. Fiz um Video no RU-vid. avisando sobre um Tsunami que vai acontecer ao Sul de Portugal, igual ao que aconteceu em 1755, e anos antes naquele tempo, a ilha de la palma entrou em atividade. agora é questão de meses até o Tsunami acontecer. quem mora ao Sul, e em Lisboa, melhor coisa a fazer é ir embora da cidade.

@@erikio123 yeah I’m trying to disprove to myself that it wasn’t a nuclear weapons test but I don’t see any firsthand videos of the blast.

Well. It was even more powerful, but as you can see the exact location a test would seem very unlikeley to me. There are images of the island slipping away before the explosion started

@@volcanotimelapses8311 I’ve seen videos from others far away when the sonic boom hit so I would’ve expected a similar video of that happening at the volcano is all 🌋

@@Twenty_twin_twin the Sonic boom moment has been captured indeed. Most other footage is from some time before the big explosion. If they would have been there on the boat at that time they would not live to tell. There is some footage from islands 60km away. Will try and see if May use that
