Massive Waves Kick Off the Wedge Surf Season

The first BIG swell hit the Wedge April 17th 2024. While the weather was less than ideal, the waves were bigger than forecasted making my trip to Newport Beach a great one.

Brad! I broke my leash a quarter mile out at my break during the last light in San Diego, been recovering mentally and waiting to get a new thicker leash, I needed this video before I head into work. So many old videos from ppl thanks brother ! Yeew !

@@Aaronkyro7 neither does that bald head of yours champ. I was riding a wave left and was cut off by a beginner trying to stand in white wash. His board collided with mine, I jumped to avoid it and our boards got caught and it snapped my leash. I swam back to shore after being sucked out to sea and it took 30+ minutes. Makes sense now ?

Is it actually two waves coming together? It looks like one wave is bouncing off the jetty and combining with a second wave.

I liked the production values, and the long lens that allowed a view inside the curl. I was hoping to see a bodysurfer, but time and equipment advances always bring change. too easy to get hit in the head for a swimmer on that day.

Man, i go over the falls on like a 1,5m wave and say i got pounded, but those guys always seem to be chilled even on the hardest and gnarlyest dry sand over the falls whipeouts i have evee seen😂😂😂

You ain't seen nothing then. I was a local for 30 years. Hurricane swells have great shape. Southern Hemisphere swells are massive, but can be ridden if you can free fall for the first 10 feet.
