Thanks for this really good detailed review. I bought my 6E on your review. Its been fantastic. Especially since my home and garden had loads of dead zones. Saving me a ton of grief from my kids since I purchased them.
For clarification, the XE75 will be limited by its 1 Gigabit Port, the Pro will be able to handle up to 2.5 Gigabits, they do not have the same speed as you mentioned. If someone has an internet plan that is over 1Gbps they will be sorely disappointed by the regular XE75
Had this for about 7 months, actually insanely good mesh network, I get like 700mb down on NZ Fibre for the internet and it barely drops when I’m about 30 metres away from the main router in a tiny house. 100% recommend for the range alone.
I tried this system unfortunately didn’t work for me here in the UK I’ve just ordered the AXE11000 I was using ASUS ET12 but that gave up after a few months great review are you actually using this
Bought a 2-pack of these a week ago. Don't know why I never upgraded my wifi eons ago because I'm getting 3x throughput on my intranet and much better speeds to/from the internet. So far only had the mesh deco unit drop out once for about a 1 minute, otherwise it's been incredibly stable.
Have 5 XE75s all hardwired back haul. Best WiFi investment ever. For the first time I have complete coverage house wide on 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands. Only downside for me thus far is the ability to select a device within the App/GUI and force it to stay on either 2.4 or 5ghz bands. Obviously 6ghz too if device is capable & already on that band. The app is perfectly built to add that feature. Also it would be nice to fix a device to a specific mesh unit, sometimes a device may switch to a less efficient AP at further distance.
Great info. Was it difficult to configure for your Synology NAS? I’m a little unsure how easy it is to set up port forwarding rules etc. vs. traditional router thanks in advance
Hi Steve! As always, another interesting, well down and informative video. I always learn something when I watch your videos. My questions revolve around the square feet coverage of these units. You had mentioned that the pro version covers about 5000 SF. How accurate are those numbers in your estimation? Are they at least close? And, is there a huge drop-off at the outer edges of that coverage? I don't have much of an issue because my house is less than 2000 SF and all on one level. I currently have an old Orbi mesh system that has been fine, but I feel like I should upgrade. Also, I have an xfinity router with wifi built in, which I use. Does it make sense to upgrade my mesh system and use that instead?
Yes,. They are all identical, meaning you can use one, two, three (or more) depending on your needs (how much area you need to cover). And, any of them can serve as a router (with no satellites) in another location.
Did I just see that on the first speedtest (with your old wifi) you were using a server in Canada, but using the new TP-link the speedtest server was in California? That would account for the difference in speed rather than anything different from the TP-link
@@SteveDOESI see what he is talking about your old system speed test was under Ontario, California but TPLink test was Los Angeles, California. Which would make the testing results different
Steve great video love your reviews keep it up man . Hey this is a request eero Pro 6 E I don’t see that you have done a review o this one. I know you love Amazon’s tech please do a review on this mesh system . Thanks
I have a lowly Deco M4 setup and found that wireless and wired speeds suffered greatly if wireless backhaul was being used (through the master Deco to the ISP). Wired backhaul saw my throughout almost double. Maybe the triple wifi in these XE75s means wireless backhaul now doesn't affect fronthaul performance, but odd that wired performance was affected as well.
Just recently switched to 2gb fiber, and my Nighthawk broke when I was moving it to its new location... So I couldn't afford a nighthawk again, so I went with this the pro edition and its better than my nighthawk
Excellent YT video. Nice product but hate the subscription piece. Are there similar mesh routers that give you more usable actions without charging you for them? Thx.
So you don't need to pay a subscription to use the devices. Only if you want the extra HomeShield security features. I personally will not be using the subscription. Here's a link that compares Free HomeShield with HomeShield Pro. www.tp-link.com/us/homeshield/
Can I buy the 3 pack.. and then buy 1 additional unit to cover about 10k sq feet? I want to extend coverage to my shop and out buildings that are detached from the main house.
Hi Steve, nice intro video on the Deco. I do find it a bit hard to believe you are happy with half the speed you are paying for - sure you can do better ;) I would like to see how these speeds differ with dedicated backhaul. Some questions for the follow up video perhaps - Can you add a third unit for a larger house? Some mesh wifi combo units like Amplifi are paired and can't be mixed so you have to buy the individuals to set up more than 2 units. Can you set up a dedicated 2.4GHz IoT network and what specifically do you gain with the paid subscription? Might also be nice to run an OpenSpeedtest to a device on the local network in addition to an Internet speed test. Thx.
Hey Deon, I'm happy with anything over 500 Mbps over WiFi. :) My PC is hard wired in and i'nm getting closer to 950 Mbps Up and Down. 1. Yes you can easily add additional satellites to add to your current setup and extend your range. 2. This device does not have a dedicated SSID for IoT devices. However, you can use the Guest network for this. 3. Here's a link to show what you get with the paid Home Shield subscription - www.tp-link.com/us/homeshield/ 4. I'm not familiar with OpenSpeedTest but i love the idea of running a local network speed test. I'll post those results on my Instagram. :)
Is any home network router system true mesh? It’s all hub and spoke. A satellite must connect back to base for connection. It cannot pass via ring topology, ie satellite to satellite to base.
What is your internet speed from your provider? If you have 1G shouldn't you be getting close to that in your testing ? 6E can surely support 1G. Thanks!
I am going to be using Ethernet backhaul, can I connect satellite decos via a switch or do they have to connect via main deco? Is there any advantage of using the access point option vs mesh?
Hey Steve. I noticed you had an iPhone 14 pro. So how did you end up getting those speeds on this new mesh network if the new iPhone doesn’t even connect to the 6GZ band?
Hey Michael, great question! Yes, the new iPhone 14 doesn't support WiFi 6E, it only goes up to WiFi 6 (sadly). The Deco XE75 support speeds of 2402 Mbps on both the 5 GHz and 6GHz bands. This is how i was still able to get those speeds on my phone.
@@SteveDOES got it. I have an ASUS et8 zenWifi 6E on a Fios 1 gig plan and I can’t get a single iPhone to reach higher than over 250mbs. Insane and I’ve tried everything.
@@Michael-co3tl Just got the Asus xt8 non wifi 6E version, other than the iPhone issue... how are you liking it? Are there any other problems? Been debating between Asus or Tp Link but instead went for Asus instead.
So if I just upgrade my main deco to 6e will I will be able to use my Wi-Fi 5 satellites? I don’t have very many devices that can use the 6e Wi-Fi but a few that can.
I have the eero pro 6e with 2 6+ nodes. Would these be an upgrade? I do play Xbox series x, 3 tvs that stream, camera system and 3 phones. We have Xfinity 1.2gb plan with s33 cable modem.
Hi Steve, thanks for the video, am looking for a Mesh system that will give better coverage just outside the house, have many large windows from bottom till ceiling...and looks like these are blocking the signal, will these 6E systems perform better?
Hi Remco, Great question, anything between the device and router will interfere with the signal. Off hand, i don't know if the 6GHz signal will perform better.
It defaults to using the 6ghz band as a dedicated wireless backhaul. You can optionally enable 6ghz wifi for your 6E devices, but then they would obviously be sharing the 6ghz band.
Wait, one key point of 6e is to get the 6ghz band for wireless use. If TPLINK is using that band for inter AP communication won't that use enough traffic to make the 6ghz band slow or worse? Can you move that traffic to 2. 4 or 5.0?@@SCU3A_S7EVE
The bad thing about these decos is that the 2.4 and the 5 GHz are combined and you cannot separate them. This is bad for older devices that need the 2.4 ghz like the ring cameras and nest devices. I know as I just had issues with those devices. I didn’t have that issue with my AMPLIFI Alien router.
If ur older devices don’t support 5ghz then it will automatically connect to 2.4ghz. However, if ur device supports 5ghz, it will automatically connect to that as long as it is within its range.
Looking for advice on my set-up. I have 1gb Internet and when Ethernet is connected directly to the deco I get about 930mbps.. I then test WiFi on laptop and pixel pro 7 right next to main and only get about 330mpbs down ...any thoughts why I am not getting higher speeds on Wi-Fi? Thank you
I was about to buy these before Amazon announced the New eero that can turn my echos into wifi points. I'm still on the fence bcos of the price of the eero. Really like tplink though.
I saw that too and was really excited! :) One thing to keep in mind is that the feature is only available on the newer Echoes and it has a cap of 100 Mbps being shared with all devices being connected.
I think is a better option nowadays to have an Omada setup instead of these Deco devices. You can have a mesh config (in case you want a mesh network), with full business configuration, many SSID, all VLAN you want and VPN. Ubiquiti is also a good choice but is more expensive and the products are harder to find on stock.
Just get the Asus ZenWifi ET8 or ET12 which has all the features without subscription and you get a fully functional web interface plus can add any model and mix & match to your Mesh system.
The ET8 is not the quite the same, for around the same price as it's two pack you get a 3 pack of the TPLink, and the ET12 is significantly more money (~$750) for the difference in price you get another access point and could pay for nearly 7 years of the subscription to the advanced security features. No thank you to either option, and i'm a big Asus fan personally but that's just an insane amount of money to get "the same features".
Unfortunately not. However you can give the 6GHz band a different ssid. Also we now have the option of setting up a separate IoT network with its own ssid.
@@SteveDOES I'm a recent subscriber and am planning to replace my AT&T fiber router with the XE 75 Pro, so have watched several of your excellent videos. I was going to just use my existing Wifi name and PW, but now I think I will start fresh with the XE 75. What are the pros/cons of using a separate SSID for the 6GHZ band and the IoT devices and how would I "place" the IoT devices in the separate SSID as they join the new new network?? Thanks
Thanks for the video , I bought the 3 pack XE75 Pro connected to my near gigabit connection( 900mbs up and 900mbs down ) using access point mode. using 6htz as backhaul fastest wifi on main deco is about 650mbs - using a laptop with a AX200 wifi 6 card ) - Is that the maximum i should expect. Another thing i have realized is how poor the wifi in Iphones are as andriod devices outperform my iphone 13 pro max ( newer and older devices ) with speed test.
The linksys hydra Pro 6 is better looks like which is wifi 6. I get 620 download and for some reason 803 upload which makes no sense and that is on wifi. Anyone know why my downlaod speed is lower then upload speed? Both max 1000
I bought this to compliment my 802.11/ac enabled devices... but found out that, one cannot manually change the WiFi 5Ghz channels to a higher frequency and Samsung galaxy phones won't work with the Deco mesh WiFi 5Ghz low frequency range... though my Apple device no problem connecting... am saddened by that.
I hope that problem has been fixed, I have Samsung phones and I close to purchasing this Wi-Fi system. Where would I find this information, I haven"t seen this anywhere?
@medicmike4906 Yes... There's a toggle on the mesh App to switch to an 80Mhz channel width... which is the channel width Samsung phones 5Ghz operate on-- though the App will warn you that mesh performance might not be optimal and am yet to experience any downside as regards the change because now all my device that is AC, AX compatible works fine including all my Samsung Galaxy phones. Buy it, it's worth it and go for the Tri-band mesh
