For years I have wanted to learn the bagpipes. I have promised my self that I will do this. i am hoping to be able to play at least a couple of tunes to celebrate my eighty seventh birthday on the 22nd of Jan 2022. I am so pleased that I have found your direct approach and great humour, this really does capture me.

That is so awesome Sam Wise! Just a bit of positive psychology for you, I would recommend making it a goal of practice in two minutes every day, and then look at it as if any thing more than two minutes is a bonus. Give yourself a smile and pat on the back after you do your two minutes! That will be a recipe for more consistency over the next couple months. Good luck!

I am having so much fun trying and trying to learn the bagpipes, my tutor, Mark Smyth is an excellent piper, he keeps saying to me " your making progress", your second video was hilarious, did you pay the minion an appearance fee! Thanks for the advice, it was really helpful.And the prompt reply was appreciated.I have a Festival of Music on Messenger.

Awesome Clifford and thank you so much for the reply! It is so great to have a tutor or instructor. Sometimes it can take a long time for us to bite the bullet and pay for instruction but what a world of difference it can make! Sometimes others see the progress we’re making before we see it ourselves! When learning instruments I find it helpful to do a video recording of myself practice, and then watch it a couple weeks later. It’s amazing how much we can improve in a short time without even knowing it. Also, I’m glad you like the minion, he was worth every penny 🤣. What is your Festival of Music?

Great-day-in-the morning to you Alec, I pray that you are doing well.. I spoke to you about the practice chantwr sounds more like a dying duck even though I change the reeds but I ask of you another question.. Several years ago I purchased a practice chanter but one with a bag, most people tell me that I was just throwing my money away because it can best ne used as a wall hanger(decoration), but to me I find that with a bag I can vontrol the air pressure to push through to make the sounds, but I am still having some problems getting my sounds(tones) out even as I control rhe air flow.. Also my chanter is abit too long and I find that that's asomewhat a difficulty in holding at a distants mouth piece as well as the chanter bottom half, would it be worth keeping the chanter w/rhe bag or not? I found out that I can change out the camter for a shorter one if possible nut the practice chanter I have is the only problem even with the synthetic reeds and also how much of the reed base is to be inserted into the chante I apologize for taking up your time, I Thank You you and Appreciate you for all your help.. God Bless You.. Phillip Houston,Tx
@GetBagpipeReady
@GetBagpipeReady 8 месяцев назад
Great question Phillip! playing a chanter with a bag (also known as a goose) can be one way to develop some breath and arm squeezing control but this is a separate skill that can wait until you transition to the highland pipes. I think it best to not get too distracted from getting your fingering down-pat for a few tunes before worrying about the goose. as for chanter length... often the problem is the blowpipe is too long, which in turn pushes the chanter farther from you. getting a shorter blowpipe may solve your problem. Hope that helps! Feel free to check out my online services for more support to help you get bagpipe ready 😀 www.getbagpipeready.com/bagpipeservices

do you recommend an electronic chanter for "newbs" so we can practice without getting winded?
@GetBagpipeReady
@GetBagpipeReady 2 года назад
Great question Roger. If you are only able to have 1 chanter choose a mouth-blown one. Getting winded is the only way to develop your breathing stamina. That being said, a echanter can be a great 2nd chanter to supplement the mouth blown chanter to extend your practice times or play when the house needs to be quiet :)
