The new resampling features combined with skipback make multitracking a breeze on the SP404mk2. Just a quick update to show how my workflow has changed. New videos coming soon.

That reverse move was a super cool idea

Not sure if it's faster, but you can also record all the drum hits in one take, then use auto-chop to put them on separate pads.

so fun watching you make a track...and judo chop that value knob.

I’ll be making a few more soon. This was the first with this setup and they should get better as I get more comfortable. I don’t see the karate chopping the knob but that’s nothing new. When I was a kid my piano teacher was jarred by how hard I played the keys. I guess some things don’t change.

At 17:45, where you pressed [COPY] to affect the whole mute group, you also have the option to press [REMAIN] to affect the whole bank.

Yes, but often I have loops playing I don’t want to be included in the changes to the one shots in the mute group.

It’s still the same features apparently, but they did squash a bug or two.

In my current setup the SP404mk2 IS my DAW. I find the 4 track limitation on a MC-101 too limiting unless I can record tracks into something else I guess. You can bounce tracks on it like an old 4-track and get many more tracks on it, I’ve experimented with that, but since I have the sampler as well I haven’t spent much time down that road.

You see how you changed each bank tempo? I think that's a bug that nobody seems privy to. I'm still on 3.02 because if you change the project tempo on that firmware, it will automatically set every bank to that tempo and remember it between reboots. 4.04 and 4.05 effectively ignore the project tempo and default to bank tempo each time you switch banks until you change it and it's annoying for someone like me who uses every single bank and resamples heavily. I still have to set the "record" tempo but only once per reboot then it sticks for every bank in 3.02. I let Roland know, but there's a chance they don't consider this a bug, and others I've spoken to weren't even aware this was a thing. I feel like I'm the only person who's bothered by this. I still love the mk2 but it's got some odd quirks.

I think you’re right, but it’s easier to change the tempo like I did and use the exact number of measures feature.. than trying to do it using “end snap” still. Version 4 is better than three to me for sure, I’m on 4.04 here, I’ve yet to try 4.05 because of my work schedule. There’s some bugs though, especially when resampling sounds from the SD card. Thanks for the feedback!

@@stacypuckett that seems to be the consensus and I totally get that. For me, I use the pattern setting where patterns cut each other off, so I make sure the beginning is trimmed (usually I won't have to do anything if I record in "wait" mode and have at least one note to start ). Let's say I want 8 bars exactly. I just record a minimum of 8 bars and stop it casually some time after the 8th bar. Then I plop that sample into a pattern set to 8 bars. When I change patterns it'll automatically cut off after the 8th bar and begin at the next pattern or loop perfectly after 8 bars if I don't change the pattern. That's how I build my tracks. The only downside? Tails get cut off, but if I *really* want a long reverb trail, I just chop it off the end of the sample and add it to the first step on the next pattern. Also you gotta know the bpm and make sure the loop and pattern are at that same in bpm, but I imagine that's the case with any workflow unless you're making amorphous ambient music. Anyways, just a workflow rant for the algorithm 😉
