I love how Chief calls him "Soldier". It subtly gives Esparza redemption. He wasn't a soldier just a volunteer who stole a ship. Chief saying that is him showing his gratitude and respect, I mean the banished would've wiped out all humans if Esparza didn't find him.
I didn't even consider that, kinda ties in well to Halo 4 when lasky tells John (paraphrase) soldiers and humanity are the same thing not two polar opposites. Nice observation.
You can even see the slight pause when the words sink in before asking the weapon for her name. While it has it's flaws, they did an amazing job with character development in Infinite
I really liked his ark, going from a regular guy who doesn't want to be a soldier at all to being inspired by Chief to be a hero and contribute to the fight in the way he can. Won't be surprised if a couple games down Esparza ends up a Spartan himself.
@@rumncoke76 I doubt it. Even the spartan IVs had been experienced soldiers for years, while the IIs and IIIs had been trained and indoctrinated from a young age. It kind of makes his level of commitment here more impressive though because he isn’t a trained soldier, but he’s still willing to face almost impossible odds
Luke Smith Reborn it’s better for his character to stay as he is. He’s a counter to Chief’s larger-than-life, stoic presence. Him becoming a badass soldier kinda ruins that.
you can see that Chief, for a second, wanted to hug Fernando but he held back. Fernando's hug *REALLY* meant a lot to Chief considering after the years he went through
He doesn’t really know how to react cause he’s been a soldier since he was 6 and was robbed of a normal childhood. He probably just feels uncomfortable but decided to just let it happen
Chief doesn’t know how to be human. That’s why I love this game. Pilot and weapon are really the first ppl to show chief real emotion and question his morality when he fucks up. You can see chief finally start to let go of Cortana, the UNSC command, all of it. He’s figuring out who he is.
Yah, I always forget Chief is a child soldier, emotionally stunted by all his years of service, It's cool seeing this side of him, I loved his interaction with Lasky in halo 4.
Please don't take him out of the franchise, put him in the next Halo game, Echo is so awesome. He brings humility and emotion to the group and to Master Chief. Edit: 2.4k you guys are the best! 😁
@@nomadicsprtanii4693 No, I'm pretty sure they confirmed a while back that they will release story expansions in the future. Kinda like Half Life 2's "Episodes".
Mine was the exact opposite, so fucking tired of “finishing the fight” every game, don’t get me started on the other times they tried to pull the bs nostalgia
@@JohnWick_is_coming_for_u no one asked how he felt, yet it’s alright for him to voice his opinion? Why can’t I? Just cause I didn’t like a certain part?
@@JohnWick_is_coming_for_u also the reason why I’m saying this shit is because I want this game to be good too and not just rely on our nostalgia, which imo they did a little bit too much, so “y am even playing 😂” is because I love this game and don’t want another franchise I love just rely on such piss poor easy tactics to make most fans think they love something then they really don’t, sure halo infinite is the best halo since whenever the fuck but it doesn’t mean it’s perfect
That and all the UNSC personnel that you rescue on side missions, makes him realize they're not alone and have an actual fighting chance. One person doing small things in a losing situation can change the morale of your side. The UNSC didn't lose on the ground because the banished were better than them, they lost because they thought they couldn't win. Chief's small victories reminded the Marines and support staff that ANY enemy can be beaten, they just had to be reminded of it.
Cannot wait to see more of this amazing trio And also Fernando had more character throughout the game without even a name, while Locke had almost none in H5 even with a name.
His character progression is fucking elite. Going from an afraid civilian contractor to being hyped to go and kicked some banished teeth in and getting praise by John, it’s dope as fuck.
Spartans can’t really hug without crushing or applying heavy-ish pressure, air hugging is as best as you can do. Plus it’s a weird height position and gesture but always, always appreciated. Spartans are quiet grown kids after all.
@@Omni601 not really. They have really fine control over their armor. He could easily hug back, it's just that he doesn't know how to react. He's not being hugged by anyone basically ever since he was a kid before joining the Spartans. (Didn't Cortana hug him at the end of Halo 4?)
2:20 Small little thing, but it's nice to see his name change on the Subtitles from Echo-216 to Esparza after introducing himself. Small, but a nice little bit for continuity after you know who he is.
@@extremelyboredtatsumaki.495 what? For clarity I finished the campaign and I don’t even know what Weapon’s new name is (because the names don’t change in the continuation of the game after). I just hope they change it in a later update. That’s all I said ;-;
@@abdulbah2176 exactly. He ain't a boring character at all. The guy was a tracker employed by ONI. The boogeymen of the UNSC. While spartan 4s are weak as hell compared to Spartan 2s and 3s, Locke was different the same way Noble 6 was to other Spartan 3s. Not hyper lethal, but definitely a step above the other 4s.
Gawd, I love the dynamic of Chief & Fernando. Here you have a Spartan who's seen it all and done it all, saved humanity several times, always goes in guns blazing against this scared ordinary human who is just a volunteer engineer who thought everything was over after hearing Chief fell to Atriox and was lost in space for 6 months. This hug moment brought me to shed a couple more tears. I haven't cried since Halo 4 ending, so it was nice to get more human moments with the Chief, Fernando and the Weapon. I reckon Fernando and the Weapon will get the Chief to open a lot more in future DLCs
Love how Chief doesn't exactly know how to react to being hugged. He sort of goes for it but then pulls back because he thinks it'd be mildly inappropriate.
Of course he let them hug him, Spartans 2 are quiet grown up children. Literally. They’re hella awkward and quiet but still appreciate any care and type of humanity :) I love them all with my heart
Personally he _did_ replace Johnson for me. He has more of a character arc than "cool guy who is cool then dies" Just my opinion. Don't set my heart on fire.
right? i literally said the same thing when esparza brings chief onto the pelican for the first time and sets him down and the whole thing shakes love to see that little attention to detail
When Chief says "Good work, soldier" - idk the way he says it just feels so full of gratitude and reassurance. The voice acting in this game was phenomenal.
Fernando hugging the Chief is one of the cutest and most heartwarming scenes in the franchise. I really hope they keep him for future Halo games! He's got such good chemistry with Weapon and Chief.
I am mexican, and this is a detail I absolutely loved. I realized Echo-216 was latino by his accent, and when he mumbled in spanish. But seeing even the motion of hugging the Master Chief in joy felt so on point for our culture. We are a more emotional lot, and we are more prone to hug people.
@@IAsimov that’s a fact. I really do hope that 343 doesn’t kill him off. Seriously I really want to see him reunite with his wife and kid. Maybe the master chief can marry Kelly and start his own gun store business. Oh I can see it now: “117’s arsenal” lol 😆
I have never played a Halo game and have no idea what Fernando's significance to the story is, but I'm already convinced he's the goodest boy and needs love, protection, validation, and hugs.
Quick summery, he is a random guy, we have never seen him before this game, humanity was beaten BADLY in orbit and what was left of the human forces crashed down on the halo ring and has survived for 6 months, alone, without hope of aid under constant attack from the enemy who have superior numbers, technology and firepower (Earth has been decimated and is under seige) and this guy was just a random civilian contractor who happened to be on board humanities flagship when it went down, he stole a transport in the heat of battle hoping to wait it out, but humanity lost and its flagship was destroyed. He has spent months in orbit losing hope, nowhere to go, no help comming when by sheer chance he finds the cheif just floating in space and brings him on board, powers up his armour using what little power the transport has left and brings the Chief out of stasis. Thats all he is, just some random guy helping us out. At the start he just wanted to leave, to go home and even blamed the chief when he wanted to fight, but the chief inspired him and now he just wants to help. He was even tortured by the enemy as a way to lure the chief to them but when he had the chance he told the chief to run, and not try to save him, knowing that he is humanities champion. He didn't want the chief to die trying to save him - a nobody. But he's not a nobody to us. He's one of the team now. The reason so many of us love that hug is because the Chief is whats known as a SPARTAN II - a supersoldier, kidnapped at the age of 6 and genetically and cybernetically enhanced, given state of the art armour and equipment. He was trained to do one thing, fight. And he does. But he has also lost a part of what made him human in the process. In this game he was asked "Do you have anyone waiting for you?" "No" "then why do you keep fighting?" "Because it's all I know" But he is slowly regaining his humanity. The one person who truly understood him was his AI companion who, for lack of a bettter phrase turned evil and unleashed a literal armada on the galaxy (Shes the one who has decemated earth). Now she id dead and the Chief blames himself for it, he feels he failed her when they promised to protect each other. The AI he has now is a copy of that AI who has essentially been reset to factory settings. So when all 3 of them are slowly bonding as a team it's awesome to see. An AI who refused to die aafter accomplishing their only task, a man who gave up hope after witnessing humanities strongest ship burn and a supersoldier still blaming himself for all thats happened. They are starting to support each other and it's all happened in this one game.
I loved this character development of Fernando. How much he grew, and so did his and Chief's relationship. They were disagreeing with the facts to either escape or fight, but at the end, they stand together...To Finish the fight!
Esparza is awesome. We need him in future games. In fact, i love this little team that just found each other. It all seems so genuine. 343, you did it so right here. And I truly loved the open world aspect. *chefs kiss*
I Hope We Can Still Play The Open World After This. I Wouldn't Want It To End Here. As Always Hope All Is Well. And U And Ur Family Is In Good Health. Hope Everyone Is Having An Amazing and Blessed Day.
Echo 419 foehammer was the only pilot i knew her death was emotional , since then i haven`t seen any personal pilot for chief , glad to see halo infinite has one
It looks like the next expansion is going to be called Halo: The Endless and is going to take place on a different ring that is shown during that last cutscene in a desert environment. I can’t wait for the story to continue. The game was well worth the wait.
No, its still the same ring, just a desert enviroment. The story of Zeta Halo isn't finished and there's still a lot to find out. Despite the campaign being barebones with only its gameplay carrying it, it did leave a lot more questions than answers, and those answers will be in campaign expansions. We don't know what happened to Laskey We don't know where Blue-Team went And we don't know where the Infinity's wreckage is. Since they're going for classic Halo, I wouldn't be surprised if each expansions theme in infinite are based off the missions of Halo CE. We already got the second mission of CE just expanded, even the enviroment is the same. Wouldn't be surprised if the next story campaign for Infinite is set on a desert and we finally meet with Laskey again and have to rescue him. Just like in Halo CE with captain keyes.
@@Razgriz_01 It might be but it was clear from the weapons dialogue that they were in a different time period during that cutscene. I would like for them to do more with Laskey but I just don’t think that will happen yet. Chief now has Atriox to deal with as well so we will have to see. I know that “the endless” will make their debut though so we should be in for a real treat in 6 months hopefullyZ
The story was amazing in the campaign so I don’t know if you can just say “the gameplay carried it”. The gameplay is fantastic but Infinites story is the best I’ve played in the series and this is coming from someone who played Halo 3’s campaign dozens of times. 343 has finally came out of Bungies shadow and the future of Halo is more exciting than ever before.
@@Razgriz_01 Whoa thats pretty interesting, maybe the next story campaign is based off truth and reconciliation? Then silent cartographer then assault on the control room? That's interesting
Nah, we're still on Zeta Halo end cutscene but on the opposite side now. The main game is centered around the damaged part of the ring, now we're on the desert biomes where probably the ancient humans resided before the firing of the Array. Zeta Halo still holds So many secrets and mysteries for lore fans, and I for one can't Wait to explore more on future DLCs
You know chief is trying to process the hug so hard because it’s like “hug? I think mom did used to do that but that was so long ago do I hug back? I’ve forgotten how this works”
I was basically screaming when chief double backed on the hug ik it’s due to the fact he’s never had one before and this game was all about him showing and trying to be human or at least getting there but still bro I wanted him to hug back😭
Epic game. Reminded me of playing Halo as a kid all those years ago. “We finish the fight.” Chills. Chief continues to be the most badass video game character ever. Hats off to 343. This is easily their best work yet on the franchise! Great direction and I can’t wait for more!
Completely agree their job with the campaign was fantastic this campaign is absolutely beautiful in terms of graphics and storytelling it's the Best halo campaign I have ever played and i'm an og halo player
From this day forward forehammer from halo 1 was the best pilot, now its echo 216 just because when I played the game and seen his family and how shattered he was in the beginning made me feel bad for him but now he changed so much, welcome to the corps marine
@@eric8031 it's dumb because they had a character in the games for 20years and gave her a satisfying death and then brought her back and ruined her ending only to cut all of her story and have her give Chief a proper goodbye only to what?.. bring her back a few hours later in the game that finally put her to rest
@@embracehippo9663 you do realize Halsey created the weapon to basically reboot Cortana? She's Cortana with new firmware, all the fragments she collected where her rebuilding and remembering who she was. Halsey wasn't going to have her son, Chief, be distraught and lost over the death of his greatest friend. Halsey can be seen as a monster for what she did to children, but she loved all of them like they were her own even if they died or were crippled in the augmentation process.
I hope that Echo/Fernando survives after they get off Zeta Halo, he has a family back home, and Chief's friends have a track record of dying, especially his non-spartan friends (Cortana, Sgt. Johnson, Both Captain and Miranda Keys, etc), and the only one of his friends that survived mostly unscathed, ironically enough, is his only non-UNSC friend, the Arbiter. I just hope they give poor Fernando a happy ending, he deserves it.
I loved the slowed down music from the Halo 2 ending and finishing the fight. Being the first halo game I played (Halo 2), filled me with loads of nostalgia!
I love the fact the Chief can’t hug without crushing someone but also can’t because he’s very socially awkward to the point where air-hugging comes to his head in a one second delay LMAO.
@@__mindflayer__ Esparza would still feel part of that weight. In which it would be mad uncomfortable for him. That and the armor alone is very uncomfortable to lay on.
Halo have such an amazing and beautiful story,i'm proud being part of the community. And honestly seeing Esparza happy makes me happy for this franchise aswell.
I think Echo, aside from maybe someone on blue team, or Halsey, might be the first person to hug John since he was "recruited". This is both heartwarming and heartbreaking.
Fernando's Character Development was awesome. Honestly he kind of got on my nerves in the beginning, but now he is definitely gonna be a fan favorite. I have a feeling he's gonna be Halos version of Flynn from Bad company 2
Some people forget how socially awkward Spartan 2s are when interacting with normal people outside of combat. Most, of them, kinda freeze up like Chief when being embraced. However, when Momma Vita hugged Fred he was frozen for a bit but returned the gesture (Fred loves her but again he's socially awkward so he has trouble understanding those feelings.) Lastly, Kelly can hold a conversation but she hates being touched I believe once she almost killed a barber for trying to cut her hair.
I bet the only reason chief didn't hug him is because he pulled a 500iq move knowing his brute strength and exo suit would probably crush him to death if he gave him a hug. I mean imagine a real hug from chief in his Mjolnir suit he'd squeeze the shit outta you lovingly and unknowingly
The theme at 2:58 is the same as a spartan rises near the end and the last spartan near the middle of the ost. One of my favorite themes from the H2A and H2 soundtrack
