Dear Michael, I'll try and answer you. The children's TV programme "På Direkten" ("On the instant"), produced by National Swedish Television would arrange (on Sunday evenings during the 80's, when this very TV show was running) an "unusual meeting" between a young person with a certain and unexpected interest and a professional person within that very sphere. I, among hundreds of children, wrote to the TV programme about my opera interest, sent in a tape with my voice and they arranged a meeting with my idol, Birgit Nilsson, who accepted. My admiration for La Nilsson later on led to a letter conversation through he years and a biography in Swedish, that I wrote over her life and career, "Värp först och kackla sen" (Lay your eggs befor you cackle!"). He was shy and nervous obviously without voice at all in the beginning, but he later showed a complete fine singing with full of enthusiasim in his eyes to her. If he never took a voice lesson before, which means the first ever lesson with such a warm person like her, he sure is the lucky one. Most of us, if not almost all, do not have good memories with our first music teachers, or should I call them charlatans.

This is a testament to her humanity to work with a student at this level of training. She is amazing vocally and such a Human being. Her life lives on much past her. How many of us can say that. She is a legend, and she earned it.

She was a legend! And that boy will remember her forever... ;-)

This was a childrens TV-program where kids could send in their wishes. This young boy (who You call "she") was a great fan of Birgit Nilsson and his dream was to meet Birgit N and have a singing-lesson.
