Danya, since I’m catching this video early, I just want to say thanks for making these videos! They literally carried me from almost a 1300 level to now 2000 and climbing fast in under a year. I recently won my first chess tournament, and I firmly believe that it wouldn’t have happened without these videos.
I hope I win my match tomorrow too! And also, this video got the perfect timing because Im desperately needing a counter to sicilian without memorizing too much
@@starship1701 the yt video cuts after he says that so it seems like he moved quickly. My guess is he waited for a couple seconds before that move was made.
Definitely suspicious, but it's worth noting that without the tactic that Daniel mentioned it's actually very logical. It's not impossible that they simply missed the tactic and played what they thought was a solid move. Ultimately we'll never know for sure.
I love how much you explain your thought process and options for both yourself and the opponent. It's not something you can get from analysis and engines, extremely valuable! Thanks for making these videos!
My God, I can't really explain how much of a honor is to be able to watch your classes, Danya. What a great work I must say! You were born a teacher. So natural listening to your explanations!!! Thank you a lot for these videos. I hope you get rewarded here in life and in afterlife as well, Sensei.
He had nothing to do with any other piece, all pawn moves would be very weakening and risky versus a clearly much better opponent and Qc4 attacks the a2 pawn, one of the most important things was to create counterplay and win back pawns to atleast draw. That was not suspicious, just a weird coincidence in my book. His profile looks consistent with the play we experienced. He completely ran into other ideas discussed on stream so I neither suspect sniping nor cheating. Danya is just incredibly strong at prognosing beginner and intermediate moves, he is called the prophet for a reason!
I was first exposed to you as a Tata Steel commentator, and man... you are one of the best chess teachers on youtube. I respect and appreciate that tremendously!
@@owenkelliher4927 don't be convinced just by the coincidence of the Qc4. It's also the most natural move there, look for yourself, what would you play? It's the only move that threatens an undefended pawn, which is probably why Danya called it.
Brilliant episode. The only thing that I always add is you must do a whole lot of tactics before you will be able to instantly 'see' the whole board. For most people tactics are the quickest route to improvement.
I used to play like an advanced french because I didn't like playing with a symmetric pawn structure, but now I see it's not at all boring to play if you take the pawn. I may come back to play the alapin thanks to you danya.
This is the type of games i like. Just logical positional moves to spotting small tactics and ultimately winning the game. Problem is i don't see those tactics quite frequently though 😅
25:35 if night took E5 pawn, F6 black pawn got E5 night then white Queen could of gotten E5 without any threat I don’t understand why he didn’t play it
@@xedsity If nxe5 then fxe5 qxe5 is met with re8 only good move is qg3 then re2 allows the rook into the second rank to start gobbling up pawns and creating all sorts of queen threats. If white plays rd2 to continue then even qb6+ and after kh1 then qf2 and the game become very hard for black. At least, according to the engine.
I love that when we play Sicilian as black, we are super bummed if we do not get an open Sicilian, but when we play Sicilian as white, we use the Alapin 😅
You can't expect to get open sicilian if you don't even play it yourself. I think people who truly appreciate the sicilian will also play open sicilian as white.
@@wildorca4500 that's not true, if you play the Sicilian as black you're aware of how deadly it can be - I play it as black but I've never willingly gone into an open as white because it's scary lol
@@wildorca4500 I'm not saying no-one plays it, or it's bad - I'm just saying that playing an anti Sicilian is a very viable option, and it doesn't mean you don't love the Sicilian. Top GMs have been playing the Rossolimo for years, does that mean they don't live the Sicilian?
There was a player in the final round of Tata Steel 2023 that would have won the tournament if he took the advice given in this video on endgames. BTW I definitely think the opponent was listening.
Hey Danya, I highly doubt you will see this or if its even possible, but I would love if sometime you could play a game where you have computer analysis for 4 or 5 moves total and you could not only explain your thoughts like you do every game, but also contrast what you thought with what the computer is saying and perhaps even explain the weird computer suggestions to the best of your ability, to show have different lines can diverge in interesting but not worse ways in the midgame. The logistics of it are awkward though since you would probably just have to play a strong bot or a subscriber, but with a random subscriber you may not get enough challenge to make it worthwhile? I don't know, maybe this is a stupid idea, I am just finding it increasingly fun to analyze your games while watching here on RU-vid and noticing the difference between computer moves and your fundamental moves is fascinating, while I think you also being alerted to ideas you completely missed and how you would react to seeing them also seems like it would be interesting. I figure most computer moves, even weird ones, quickly make sense to you and you could explain them well to us plebs who are far too weak to understand them.
I don't think he was really cheating in any way. If Danya has a million fans, then I am one of them. If Danya has ten fans, then I am one of them. If Danya has only one fan then that is me. If Danya has no fans, then that means I am no longer on earth. If the world is against Danya, then I am against the world.
I thought Rd2 wasn't a good move because of e4 and I was right. Engine evaluation drops from +1.2 to +0.3 (you didn't analyse what would happen with e4 there in the video, only a move earlier or later). Slightly better than e4 even was Qd5 according to engine (which I'd never consider). Anyway, reason that e4 works there is that it doesn't lose the pawn after Nb4 and only 1 pair of rooks is traded. White will end up up a pawn and a little better still, but would be hard to win imo.
He either got a good game or he's stream sniping. I'm leaning towards getting a good game because I prefer to assume innocence rather than guilt. I doubt very much that he was straight up cheating tho. At his rating I get solid games like that at times as well but usually I make many more mistakes in games like that. I probably would have crumbled in the opening here vs Danya, I have horrendous opening knowledge.
@@jonhurley6591 Probably not cheating, but definitely sniping. He's not playing like a 1600 and if you check his other games, he plays way more consistent to a 1600 than in this one. Danya may have class and say its better to give the benefit of the doubt, but he's an extremely popular streamer playing on a site rife with unethical players - it's way more likely something fishy is going on, than a random 1600 got to play a game of his life against a GM.
@@singami465 are there less cheaters on lichess? i’m 1300 on chess and i feel like very game or two i get absolutely blown off the board by some sus play…
@Cole M. It's probably not cheating. Cheaters don't bother to play at 1300, they shoot straight upwards. It's not a question of site, but of means. It is extremely easy to cheat at online chess, no matter what fancy, not-entirely-ethical JavaScript you put on the site (like tracking the player's clicks). And the better you are at chess, the easier it is for you to cover up your cheating by not being totally blatant.
@@jonhurley6591 there is a reason Danya laid a trap and opened up the players archive (probably to check how often he had played the opening). He doesn’t do it every game. Can never say for sure but this game screamed streamsniping. Remember there are cuts in the video that takeaway the delay.
A little confused. U said not afraid to have an endgame with an isolated pwn( 20:15)However it is generally said that side with an isolated pwn shouldnt exchange pieces
Could you do a video about “verified” books/“top ten” chess books you should own? Or maybe have a video specific to the books you own (my ten favorite chess books I own)? I want to buy books but I just don’t know if they are “good”/how to judge them
27:08 this looked like a good spot for black to play e4, no? e4 fxe4, Qxe4 Qxe4, bxe4 and the knight is pinned. Loses an exchange? What should white play there instead?
Nb4, hitting the Queen with tempo, it’s a crucial response to e4, without it white would be worse. One way to gain a safe advantage is e4 Nb4 Qd7 Rxd6 Qxd6 fxe4 Qe5 Qb6 or Re1, Re8 Take a6 on Qb6 or bring knight back to d3 where trading on e4 is a winning endgame for white
Mad respect to the opponent in this one... played a great game, forcing a strong GM to simplify into a winning endgame rather than just mating you in the middlegame is impressive!
