I rarely face open sicilians online. Mostly people play the bowdler (italian setup) the alapin or the mccdonnel. However in my otb gamed the open sicilian is what I face the most.
These videos are a blessing. I always watch one before I play and have a decent performance. Also went from 900 to 1300 in rapid and still climbing. Would love to see a Catalan game
Been watching the speedrun nightly. My rating has improved, but my enjoyment of the game has skyrocketed. Now I have some strategy behind every move I make, even if it's not always the right one :) Thanks for the great content as always.
One of my favorite tropes in Grandmaster chess vids is how they proceed with game and the commentary discusses "simple chess" with a lot of consecutive nice positional moves. Then *BAM* you get hit with this galaxy brain forced sequence starting with a 4 piece sacrifice and a 17 move mating net out of nowhere.

Great content as always. Would love to see some instructional videos that try to fully cover an opening and all the main lines in ONE video so that I can study and learn from it. These videos are also great but requires viewing a lot of them to see how to respond to certain moves.
i thought the same thing! One video with the very basic explanation of all the opening recommendations and putting games of the speedrun which feature those openings in the description, that would be absolutely amazing.
@Sachitananda saaaameeee i also play grünfeld defense against d4 and if they don't play Nc3 and c4, then i go for king's indian and if they don't go c4 at all i go for chigorin defense

This opening reminds me of a line in the Scandi Modern, the Icelandic Gambit. If white leaves the pawn on c3 it's even an improvement as they don't have Nf3 in response to taking on d5

It's nice to see the reality of people not actually playing the main lines in these videos. I feel like older videos ended up with a lot more main lines than you typically see at these levels.
I didn't check this with computer evaluation so I could have over look something but I was wondering if at around <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="1326">22:06</a> White could have offered more resistance with 1.KR-c1 Q-b4 2.QR-b1 Q-a4 3.RxP e-5 4.RxN PxN 5.BxP B-f6 6.R-d6 if (...KR-d8 7.R-b7-d7) maybe only chance for White. In my opinion moving the other Rook to the C-1 file should at least be considered.
I am watching this speedrun by order and have heard many times about Open Sicilian. Now I am waiting it to happen because I think there are some very powerful stuff will be told by Daniel, some secret weapons

Ne8 was my first a-ha moment in chess 😆 I was 7 and only knew some basic chess and my opponent was pretty much the same but he knew this idea with Qg3 and Bh6 threatening mate or winning the exchange and he went for it. It took me 5 minutes to discover Ne8 over the board but after that my opponent didn’t know what else to play and I proceeded to win the game 😆
Sooo, White playing Nb5 at <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="975">16:15</a> threatening a fork on c7.. We counter with Nxd4 and on Nc7 we play Qc6 threatening Qxc7 if the Knight on d4 is captured and if Nxa8, then we remove our Knight from d4 and eventually capture the Knight on a8 (then it would be two minors for the took)? Or how does this work?
I am beginning Scandinavian player and that position at move there kinda looked like weird scandi and it's already felt advantageous because you opened useful c file for queen attack/retreat and white didn't developed any knights. The following development ideas also felt a lot like scandi with Bf5 and e6 preparing to castle long, so kinda curious thing
it's always the wrong rook - btw, altho I'm not sure, I think that the wrong rook came up in Marshall Capablanca, when the a-rook instead of the f-rook locked the king in a box - idk, i'm not sure, maybe
i saw the idea to attack b2 pawn but i thought about something slow like knight e5 to c4 which is probably as good. gotta see the more immediate threats i guess
Hey could you please make a full theory video about vienna game? Including 3.Bc4 and 3.g3 and some plans for gameplay. I'm trying to learn vienna but it's hard because there is only few videos on youtube explaining that. Pleaseee
(*Daniel playing the alapin*) We don't mind an IQP, it opens space for our pieces to manouver and the activity of our pieces compensate for the pawn and the opponent must be careful, our position is great (*Daniel playing against the alapin*) We must do everything we can to get an IQP for white, which is the ideal scenario for us because it is a huge liability and the opponent must be careful, our position is great
in that line you have to play Qxd5 because your opponent played the delayed alapin(3.c3) you can only play that Nf6 approach if the opening is alapin(2.c3)
@@efemetin5593 Yea, figured. Does not seem too bad for black, just somehow don't like it. More work required. Seems hard for me to put my light haired bishop to the right place in those positions.
@@MrKostaja Its always the light squared bishop that causes the problem lol. I always played Nf6 aganist alapin and i do quite well with it. You can try that line if you want, daniel played Nf6 in at least 2-3 videos i believe. Also if you are struggling aganist alapin i recommend you to study how to play aganist an iqp because most alapin games lead to the iqp structure.

It's really frustrating on the lower Levels.. the Open Sicilian ist the Most fun opening of all Times ever. And Nobody wants to play it because they think all the 1600s have some insane GM prep...
So when a lowlevel guy loses to a grandmaster in disguise, does he get some sort of bonus after the fact? Even just an message letting them know who that was, because it would be cool to know why your opponent seemed a thousand points higher than their rating. Otherwise he might think he's fighting Stockfish.
