I do have Ich X, so the toilet water thing isn't 100% true. Mostly, I just up my water changes and let nature take its coarse, though.

You can do salt baths if you want to do non-medical or you can go with a maracyn 2 if you want to medicate.

I don't know much about Oscars sadly 😕 I can give you general fish suggestions. Are there other fish in the tank that might be bullying it? Have you tested water parameters to see if anything is off? Are there any physical signs of distress on the fish? Have you added anything to the tank that could have brought something? How old is the fish? I'd say do a water change get it some fresh water add a conditioner like api stress coat to help reduce stress and maybe add in some aquarium salt. Just as general fish suggestion. Sorry I could not be more specific

So typically the only reason we say to remove a filter is if it uses active carbon as that will take out meds. I have never experienced any crash or anything when using erythromycin in my tanks. Yes it will kill some bacteria but not normally enough or the same as our tanks good bacteria. You could remove it if you want. It's kind of a personal choice.
