I have the Master Forge BG179A. I paid $1800 for the grill and two years later I also have many issues with parts rotting. Not as bad as yours -but nonetheless, enough of it making me regret my decision.
I also have a Master Craft 4 burner unit with the same problem - However my problem was not rust but burn out ( Metal pan gets too hot ) I made a Stainless Steel heavy gauge replacement which cured the problem.
I have exactly the same problem! After few years of occasional summer grilling my tray is eaten up by rust, no way to save it. Was thinking about replacing it ( not sure if it's possible and economical to do). Thank you for your video, in a way I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem, but it still doesn't give me idea for solution... Mine is still working, I just can't use it. Bummer. Good luck!
Thank you for making this video. I had no idea if a used grill I got for free was going to be salvageable. I’ve seen some videos where folks forge their own grill floors. The one I got was Charmglow, a Lowe’s model.
My $700 Master Forge model 3218LT did the same thing. The hinges rusted too. The unit is stainless steel with no rust but that non-replaceable bottom pan is completely rusted out.....POS....Don’t pay the money for this junk....Thanks for posting your video, now I Don’t feel so bad.
I have the same one, Lowes owns Master Forge. I even called Corporate and the President's office. They offered zero help, not even a few bucks off another grill! Lowes is known for selling cheaper made products they own the brand for all made overseas and they claim, because of this, nothing they can do.
Mine did the same exact thing after 2 years, always covered. Took it back to Lowes, they gave me a brand new one. Guess what? Did the same exact thing 2 years later.
I️ have the exact same grill and just went to grill on it tonight. Opened up the lid and guess what. The whole bottom fell out of it onto the tank!! Same exact problem. 2 years old as well. Always been covered.
Couldn't agree more! This grill cost too much money to literally fall apart this quickly. Plus the fact that you can't replace the grease pan which makes the grill worthless once it rusts out.
Same story but five years later from this video. We kept it covered and clean. After two years the inside rusted out and the bottom eventually cracked. Unfortunately the bottom pan cannot be replaced.
Same issue however, I was wondering if we couldn't find a stainless sheet cake pan with close to the same dimensions as the bottom of the grill drill a hole in the middle, add a cross bend with a break and rivet it in its place. My Grill is exactly the same. Its a looker but poorly built grease drip pan.
Same Same ! 5 years of moderate usage. Looks great Unsafe to use !! Holes in the bottom tray. Is there anything to be done to use it still. ? Will let the company know.
Exact same grill, exactly the same story. Lightly used, always covered and outside looks great. I was surprised when I went to change the gas and the bottom was completely rusted out. Disgraceful product and manufacturer.
I'm looking at just throwing in a fender for mine Mine collapsed after about 10 years I Grill all year round in Florida I'll probably just build a second for go over my grill to keep the wind and sun off of it
I know what your going to think, but this is what I did,, I filled the bottom with a fabricated steel plate, replaced the burners with fab-ed stainless steel burners replaced the flavorbars with fab-ed steel, I did this as a experiment and I believe the grill will last 20 yrs , after my effort,
Am having the same problem. Trying to create an Ash pan from a metal plate, otherwise, today one of the legs was broke off due to rust. What a waste, good grill with cheap material.
If you leave it outside during the off season the change of temperature & moisture in the air you will always cause rust., doesn't matter if it's covered in the deck, it's still exposed to moisture in the air.. ..,dont pay anymore the $200 for a 6 to 7 burner grill. Unless they guarantee rust proof materials & if they so you'll be paying much more than $300 for that grill
I have been through 3 or 4 grill's over the last 6-8 years always same issues ... Ridiculous but that's what we get from China! I was going to redo the last grill using the stainless top retro-fitted to the bottom, just have not got around to it. Crying out loud ...
Any one ever get back to you? I also have a Master Forge where the bottom tray completely rusted out. To the point where I can't even use it because the grease catches fire and drips all over the propane hoses. Scared the hell out of me when I first saw it. I feel like all grills are built to fall apart quickly. Which makes me want to just buy replacement parts. Where did you get parts for yours?
Mine too...it was a great grill...kept it covered. the whole firebox rusted out. we bought it new and paid a fair amount for it. did not expect this lack of quality.
Dang, every new grill I look at have these rust out videos. Guess I'll stick with my 2008 chargriller duo (replaced burners, heatshields and upgraded to cast iron grates). The body on my chargriller is fine, I'm just bored with grilling on it. Guess the only options in 2017 are: A. buy from Costco/Sam's so you can return it when it rusts out. B. Pay $500+ for a Weber genesis etc. C. Find a high end $$$ grill on crags list for cheap. Anyone else have any ideas?
I also have a Master Forge model number 3218 LTN with the exact issue involving a completely rusted grease pan. It's a complete shame since I also enjoy grilling with this grill however, this company certainly cut corners on the inner parts of this grill. Cheap thin metal interior. I will try to replace or custom fit another pan if possible. BUYERS BEWARE WITH MASTER FORGE! GRILLS. Not worth the aggrevation...
my whole box is rusted out where the bolts go to hold it together when i open the cover the box lifts up can i use maybe a 1.5 in stell washer under the wing nut to stop it from lifting up/
I have the exact same grill. The inside is tray is completely rusted out now, but it's made it six years and 300-ish uses... likely because we cover it after every use.
Master Forge from Lowe's $400 : all 4 burners rusted out , flavor metal shields decomposed. Made of trashy metal, metal grates rusted/decomposed and left metal bits in my grilled meats. Thermometer stopped working after first month and shows condensation inside it. Poor quality . Waste of money. Lowes should drop this vendor and stand behind their products. I keep BBQ under a grey canvas storage cover. Still failed.
They need up keep . Repaint the tray with rustoilium Every year keep them clean. Mine looks like new after 5 years. But I take care of my shit... Buy a cover too
Same story. the heat shields are simple enough to replace. But the grease tray is completely rusted away and can't be replaced. In other words, a complete loss. Just a little thought in designing this thing might have saved the thing. So, I think it was intentionally designed to fall apart. Do not buy this grill, ever.
DO NOT BUY THIS GRILL, I have owned this grill for 3 years. Just about everything has failed. The grates are corroded and breaking apart with rust, The burners have rusted and 3 off them leak gas to the point you cannot cook with them, The cover and parts are impossible to replace and none of the lights or features work anymore. I use this grill once a week or less, keep it covered ALWAYS and it sits under a covered patio so I cant understand why this grill is so bad. READ OTHER REVIEWS AND CONFIRM.
