Very helpful video. I always get tripped up trying to duplicate your beautiful and almost carefree skies. I can never quite get the nice, loose, playful brush stroke that you do. So I keep trying, and overwork the sky everytime! Thanks for the useful videos. Your work is really nice!

This is SO tremendously helpful! I am just about to dip my toe into the line and wash sketching pond but, as a perfectionist and landscape-phobe this is just what I needed! I tend to get overwhelmed with the many elements and details in a landscape - I don’t know where to start so I just don’t! You’ve provided me with a wonderful step by step process for simplifying things - thank you!

I really liked the boldness of the sky and the see contrasted by the simple hatching of the further land… love how you break down a complex scene into simpler shapes and make it much more easier to paint/draw. Thanks for all the tips and explanations, so appreciated!

I really enjoyed this and I suspect it's an unannounced preview of your third course coming up in August. Street scenes force us to concentrate on shapes and perspective whereas a simple landscape challenges us to really think about colour, fore-, mid- and background layers and value. So much artistic judgment involved! BTW - that vertical hatching works so well but when I've tried it I wasn't very successful. It looked like a fence, so more Marmite than peanut butter 🙂:-)

Funny, when you left the distant landmass white, I was thinking to myself, No way you can paint that in now and leaving it white is a bit too white, sooo maybe hatching? So I called it (in my mind...😂). Love these kjnd of landscapes. The looseness of your linework keeps it "painterly". I've always been a drawer, and now I'm getting into watercolor/line and wash I find it pretty difficult to loosen up. But I'm working on it😉

How would you help a person who is left handed when I was at school I used ink and I’m sure you know what happens when I am left handed it usually is a mess I am retired now and would love to do what you do but I still think I would make a mess any help would be great thank you
@TobySketchLoose
@TobySketchLoose 11 месяцев назад
With sketching it doesn't matter which hand you are using - if you are eoft handed you can start on the right of image, and because you hold the pens differently the pens should work quite well. Don't let your handedness stop you 😁😊

Great video. This is a silly question, but in any of your videos do you touch on exactly how you splatter your paint? I have tried what it looks like you are doing with various-sized brushes, more water, less water, and I either get nothing leaving the brush or a big glob. You seem to just tap lightly and get a nice pattern. Aaargh! Frustrated I be!
