Tal vs Botvinnik 1960
Moscow
No sooner did Mikhail Botvinnik regain his title, the chess world became entranced by charismatic young Latvian named Mikhail Tal. Tal won the 1958 interzonal tournament at Portoroz, then helped the Soviet Union to retain the Chess Olympiad; before going on to win the 1959 Candidates Tournament with 20 out of 28 points--a point and a half ahead of second place Paul Keres.
Tal often sacrificed material in search for the initiative in chess. With such intuitive sacrifices, he created vast complications, and many masters found it impossible to solve all the problems he created over the board, though deeper post-game analysis found flaws in some of his conceptions. Although this playing style was scorned by ex-World Champion Vasily Smyslov as nothing more than "tricks", Tal convincingly beat every notable grandmaster with his trademark aggression.

I like these quiet games. It helps put the entire match in context. It’s also an interesting change of pace to see Tal being boring, yet strategic.

What I've been finding most fascinating about this match series is that it makes you look at Tal with even greater wonder. I mean, I think we tend to see Tal as this bohemian-magician who pulls rabbits out of his sleeves all the time like it was nothing... I'm not saying that the reputation isn't well-founded, but this match shows how Tal outplayed Botvinnik, the researcher, with some awesome research and preparation of his own. I guess even a magician must prepare his tricks beforehand, right?

Hey agadmator just wanted to tell that at 5:21 the main purpose of bringing knight to b3 is to fork the King and the rook, did u forget to mention it or am I missing something,??!!
@agadmator

White would prevent that, but the knight would still get squares. Maybe I should've mentioned it :)

So I am thinking of starting a "non-official" weekly Agadmator tournament. Time format will be 3+0 blitz and will be 1 hour long. Tournament will be password protected and a password will be posted on my twitter(@listen_2_sahil) 1 hour before the tournament. We can decide the schedule later if enough subscribers are up for the tournament. Ofcourse there will be no prize for the winner but we can "maybe" if it goes great in the future (Although I will post standings on my twitter every tournament). So, letme know and if there are enough subscribers ready for it(20+), We can plan this. I will create a thread on my twitter.

This seems like a terrible game for Botvinnik. He allowed too many trades when he should be playing for victory.

1:53 after Black's bishop to b4 why not bishop to d2 by white ?? Why ? That's better I think... Pawn structure remain undamaged plus knight can move in the next move to have tempo upon the bishop at b4. Please tell why nobody plays

Where can I find the rules of world chess championship? Such as how much points one must have to defeat the current world champion etc etc. I only found the rules on board and how to play on some sites but apparently the kind of info I am looking for is a bit rare or I did not search with proper keywords

hope you see this comment! do the career spotlights of prominent chess players in history OR at least have your next choice polled between something like : 1. avro tour; 2. bobby fishcher karpov match in 75; 3. the chess career of alekhine alexander; (i dont understand how a guy who loves tal doesnt like alekhine), instead of another tournament/championship match. What many people want is when you tell the story behind the tournament or match game, and with career spotlights most would learn more comprehensive chess history which will rouse more interest in chess in a wide variety of audience (beginners, casual players (which i think is the majority of your viewers), and entertainment (people who are here just to enjoy the show xD ) the championship matches coverage contains too many draws , and the tournament have players that most people dont know much about ... tell me what you think (dont just ask us, to comment on your questions)
