Looks pretty good, nice artwork as well, especially the building designs. I've been looking for a sci-fi space theme that isn't a battlefest. Will have to keep an eye on this one.
Master of Orion 3 was an awful mess in my opinion Tom on the other hand Master of Orion 2 was amazing. That's the computer game I compare all 4x games to.
Really clever game. No need for fireworks sometimes. My few cents: 1) Exchange wooden cubes with IaWW alike (transparent, sci-fi feel) 2) House rule the battle part, a must! 3) Fractions could have more unique abilities. Apart from these simple tweaks, I'd say I'm glad I found it. It goes around 10$ 2nd hand..what?! I've got even better finding with so understed Metallum.
It depends on the fleet size. 300 the Sakara ships (of all classes from a destroyer to a titan) erased my fleet of nine Doom Stars along with a Star Fortress and all Planetary defense for TWO turns! I had Stellar Conveter, VIII-class shields and Zortrium Armor. But those lizards launched at me thousands of Nuclear missiles! There was no a single chance.
Pursuit of Happiness is on your wall! Wow! After your 2016 list I was unsure about that. That game I am excited for. Also, Master of Orion looks neat. ;)
The art looks to be based on or even taken from the new Master of Orion game that's available on Steam. Being put over new backgrounds for some of them. Even some of the symbols match (food, ship command points, work hammer, etc).
Looks interesting and simple/fast enough for my group or even playing with my father. I also remember playing and liking Moo, but i can't make myself play it today :D So this game is kind of a scratch for that itch. But i certainly didn't expected that to go into your collection. Wow! :)
This board game is developed by Ekaterina Gorn and Igor Skluev. It's a good example of how the original MOO is beloved in different parts of the world. Orion unites the Earth!)))
I was going to say that this game looks VERY interesting, as you were explaining it. Glad you loved it. Going on my wishlist. Shame to hear they just wrote off the humans as your average faction with nothing cool. Too many games do that
Okay, this is a nice little card game about MoO. Nothing more. That's, at least for me, a little dissapointing. The best game which give you a MOO2 feeling is INTERVENTION - Reach for the stars. You explore a modular universe which is different every game. You have four races with different attributes. You find planets to colonize. There are planets colonized from other races. You can make treat alliances with him. You can conquer those worlds. Maybe you find asteroids which give you minerals or neutronstars for more production. And there is empty space, of course. You build ships from little explorers to powerful starships. Colony ships to bring your races to planets in space. You try to research for better production or more effective weapons. And there are events, that come over you. Sometimes good, mostly bad. And avoid black holes. They destroy everything in their reach. And you fight your battles in space. Easy to learn. It needs 3 house rules and then it is an absolute "MOO" like Space game. The design of the game is questionable for sure. But i know no game which came nearer to MOO2
I keep wanting to get a game that is 4x in space with different races, but TI:3 is dauntingly long, Eclipse gets no love at all here on the DT, and New Dawn gets no love anywhere (though I personally love the AtS universe....). Is Orion my salvation, or should I try something else??
GrandElemental The complaint (not just from DT) is that the game is very Euro-y with a lot of book-keeping, but I honestly don't mind that (though my gaming group might not care for it when they are expecting something more Ameri-trashy).... What are your thoughts as someone who has played it and likes it? I haven't played it or TI:3 yet, so I have nothing to go on.
Mentat1231 It is, yes, but the book keeping is made very easy by the way it's handled. And you do realize that 4X genre is very "Euro-y" anyway? The good computer games from the genre are usually very much resource and management oriented, rather than just plain combat strategy. And the best one do both well, of course.
I agree Eclipse is not that bad, feels more computer 4x but I also like TI3 way better myself. Their is also Exodus and Empires of the Void which is lit but hard to find. Star Trek looks like the most 4x ever made but super long from reviews.
MoO2 I agree is one of the greatest computer games of all time and Stellaris is an awesome spiritual successor to it. Better than MoO3 or the new Master of Orion.
Looks sweet but why Russia ? the new video game version of this that came out this year is meant to be good also. I tried to get tickets for Essen but those Ryan Air return flight fares are just to high.
As far, as i know, russian company hobbyworld created this game. Generally they make russian versions of foreign games (like Arkham Horror, Smallworld, etc.) and sometimes some niche and little games for the russian market. I hope they will get some world-wide attention with Master Of Orion.
I think the makers of the new MoO game are Russian too, Wargaming.net. I could be wrong (could be Ukrainian perhaps?) but I think that's why they've gone with a local developer.
A "Master of Orion" game with no galaxy map? Heresy!

In the intro when I saw that small box I said "uh oh". Then he said card game, "uh oh". Cubes, "uh oh". The game looks like it lost a few of the Xs along the way. Too many of the 4Xs have been abstracted. This might be a good card game but it definitely isn't MOO. I guess if you can get the rights to a name, you can milk the cash cow. Those looking for a hex laying exploration game with fleets of little plastic ships and planetary invasions and a tech tree with negotiation need not apply. Go play Exodus, TI3, or Eclipse instead. That being said, the card game seems a bit generic, simple, and abstract for me, I think I'll take a pass.
EXODUS (Revised Ed.) is a really good 4x space game, especially with the diff races, and using the expansions/modules. Plus it is a much shorter game than TI3 & even Eclipse.
