Thompson Pens hosted a workshop on the art of Spencerian Writing on May 11, 2021. Master Penman, Michael Sull, spends 10 minutes demonstrating the writing of one of our attendees name using Spencerian Writing. am I blind or was he using finger pressure rather than whole arm movement for most of it?

I could be wrong but I am not seeing movements of the tendons of the hand. He does have a good grip on the pen tighter then I normally have. This type of writing uses literally fingers, hand, wrist, arm and in some calligraphy shoulder with back muscles.

Can’t see what he was writing😂. Whoever was shooting this video is simply useless as he didn’t zoom in to show his writing..😅😅

Sull is a master but seriously, he is not doing the real "ornamental penmanship" as those masters like Louis Madarasz did a hundred year ago. OP and Spencerian requires muscular movement and Sull literally used only finger and wrist movement. Thats why he couldn't get smooth, spotless hairlines.

Sull is a great Penman that gave his time for all to see nothing unfortunately, the Camera work and the sound was a disservice to him and us! Before wasting everyone’s time, learn how to make a Video with a Camera that can zoom and have a quality microphone. . What a shame of wasting his time and ours. Oh, he obviously wants his books to sell.
