MIchael Sull is the worlds foremost expert on Spencerian Script and ornamental penmanship. He travels the world teaching this somewhat obscure art.
Recently, I had the chance to visit with him in his studio. He and I are very good friends, and it had been a long time since we had gotten together. I ribbed him a little about not keeping in touch, applying a friendly little guilt trip on him. He then offered to letter my wife's name. Of course we accepted. She and I watched as this masterful piece came to life. After he finished, he looked up at me, and asked "Am I now forgiven, Robbie?" [for not keeping in touch] I responded quickly by saying, "Yes, now do my name." We all laughed.
I apologize for the quality of the video as it was from my iPhone. I had to bend over slightly to get a good shot, and the camera shakes a bit while my back was feeling the pain- but it was worth it.
After about 20 minutes of recorder, I had to stop before Mike had completed it. But I do show the final piece at the end of the video. It's absolutely stunning!
I also apologize for the quality of the audio, but to be honest, it's about the lettering, not the commentary. :)
I hope you enjoy this. My wife loves the piece and she has it proudly framed.
-Thanks Mikey, for the lovely work.
