Yep, for sure. The master system mickey mouse illusion games for the master system like Land of Illusion are essentially Ducktales games. Sega's attempt to make their own Ducktales games to compete with the NES ones, without breaking some kind of copyright law. Cos they have the same controls, the same bouncing mechanic, the same sort of level design and level art, even the treasure boxes look very VERY similar to the ones in Ducktales. Especially if you play Land of Illusion for the master system, you'll be wondering how Sega weren't sued for it, it's that similar. These illusion games for the master system (unlike the sega Genesis ones) are complete rip offs of the Ducktales games, but that's not a bad thing. Not a bad thing at all. If you love the ducktales games, then play all the master system mickey mouse Illusion games, because despite the eerie similarities, they are still mostly unique levels, and so it's like playing new ducktales games that you've never played before. Which is great for Ducktales fans. But yeah it's something nobody ever seems to comment on for some reason. I was absolutely flabbergasted when I first played the illusion games for master system and noticed all the dozens or hundreds of similarities, and how they feel and play exactly like the ducktales games for the NES, and I'm just really shocked that Sega got away with doing this lol. You'd think Capcom would have sued them or something.
I played this as a kid, it is incredible to re-experience it!, i used alot of time trying to beat this game back then hehe. I got angry and sad when i continually failed those levels, although i did manage to beat the game as a kid i must say it has healed my broken childheart a bit to see the whole game done in 50 min. :), i dont know if it is because i played this as a kid but i think it is one of the nicest games i ever saw.
I remember with this with fondness. For me it was a big step up from predessor, Castle of Illusion. My first introduction to Horace Horsecollar - and a "Find Them All" challenge in the power-stars (one in all 14 levels - they were a challenge to find, as I remember) Elements I remember with dread, though - the Princess' Castle, the spiky cogs, those annoying pink fish and the "instant death" lava-traps... Is it me or does the Phantom remind me of the Horned King from "Black Cauldron"
8:36 I get the feeling the Illusion developers hated Pete's Dragon. This is the second time I've seen him be a boss in these Illusion games. The first time was World of Illusion. Yes, they're technically palette swaps, and yes, World of Illusion's dragons were smaller, but still, they're obviously Pete's Dragon.
Nah. Reading too much into it. You watch the old Disney films you realise a LOT of the characters are the same. Wasn't uncommon at all for them to reuse characters and change palette for different films. No reason it should be different for games.
I remember this game, my parents funnily enough (Or at least my mum) liked it. Though as a kid of 5 or 6 I showed them up by finding so many of the secrets in the game :P
As much as I heartily agree that SMS/GG graphics are superior, I've got to give the better sound chip to the NES. Even when comparing sound natively, NES had four musical channels (one noise/SFX channel, two square waves and one triangle wave.) SMS had the same amount of musical and SFX channels, but all three were square wave, which on its own explains the lack of variety of soundtypes in SMS music. Sadly, SMS's sound was super dated from day 1, as it was based on the SG-1000's.
marlb0r015 yes, I came to the comments to post just this, because that is exactly where my career in this game ended. You had to stand on your key?! Damn, I tried throwing it through the hole so many times with failure.

Pas loin d'un jeu mégadrive. La master system est poussé à fond. Les graphismes sont incroyables pour une console 8 bits. Ça donne franchement envie d'y rejouer. Mickey avait vraiment la côte sur les consoles sega. Je kiffe. 👍👌
Yeah in Europe, the master system outsold the NES, and the mega drive outsold the SNES. It's the other way around in north America. And yeah the master system was and still is incredibly popular in Brazil. Because Brazil have ludicrously high import tarrifs for foreign technological systems like HI-FIs and games consoles (to the point where it's cheaper for a Brazilian to fly first class to Florida, stay in a fancy hotel for a whole week, buy a PS5 or Xbox Series X there at full price, then fly back home to Brazil with their new console, than it is to buy a PS5 or Xbox Series X in Brazil, so it's truly ludicrous how expensive these tariffs are), so the only ones Brazilians could afford was old consoles that hadn't been popular elsewhere in the world for years already. Brand new Master Systems are STILL being manufactured in Brazil to this day. The company that does so pays sega for a license to be able to produce their own master systems within Brazil, so that the expensive tariffs aren't applied to it and so Brazilians can actually afford it. So yeah to this day, new master systems are made in Brazil. And they also do the same with sega mega drives too. They're essentially the most current and modern consoles that have widespread ownership in Brazil, even though they're both well over 30 years old now. There's companies making new games for these consoles in Brazil to this day also. Like because of how Brazilians are absolutely football mad and love the sport more than any other country does, new football games are made for the master system and mega drives with modern (2023) squads and team kits etc. It might be worth finding out the name of some of these modern games for these consoles being made there, to play on an emulator. Cos it's interesting to see what modern developers can do in such old consoles.
This is one of the games that shows the hardware capabilities of the system, nice and colourful graphics, smooth animation and scroll. If only Sega implemented the fm chip in every master system...
Fully agreed! It feels like a fully optimized game for the SMS. As well as the great graphics and sound, I think it's the game mechanics also that made it so good! Some of the enemies were scary as a child also. LIke the walking flame, I wouldn't like to see him after a bad acid trip!
It appears that Mickey got his tail upright when Minnie made that promise of a kiss. I hope Mickey got some ass to go with that, too, for all of his trouble.
I hope they can Remake this Game like Castle of Illusion because Land of Illusion is a Sequel to Castle of Illusion and I loved it even more than the First One
This game is WAAAAAAY more like the Ducktales games for the NES than they are to the mario games. These games are sega's rip off of the ducktales games, but that's a good thing, not a bad thing, because they're essentially new games for Ducktales fans that they've never played before.
If any yall wondering.. make sure u always land with ur ass when jumping... there are sooooo many invisible chests that appear when u land on them with ur ass. clocked this game like 20 times and found tons of secrets that this playthrough has not. thanks for uploading
however, if you count the japan-only FM addon as part of the SMS sound hardware, the entire argument gets more complex, and you'd have to compare it to even stronger NES sound addon chips like the VRC7.
Other way around. Super Mario World was released 21. November 1990 in Japan, while this game was released 26. March 1993 (Game Gear version in Japan, Master System followed in June). Now idea why under the video it says 1992, that is wrong.
This game, visually, has a striking resemblance to The Lucky Dime Caper. Lucky Dime Caper was released a year earlier, and was made by the same team - i think?, so it makes sense. Gameplay is more simplified in this one, though.
Mickey and Minnie had blead eyes because it dedicated when they were created in 1928 where there was the reborn of Disney starting with the little mermaid
This, and every other mickey mouse illusion games for the master system, are all bloody brilliant games. I do share somewhat the same opinion like you on different game libraries but I still feel the SEGA machines suffered of the fact that then giants like Konami and Capcom could not publish their games on them for a long time. There were so few SEGA publishers who could take their place and publish titles as entertaining. I would for example have loved it if the Mega Man series were published on the SMS on the same time as the NES.
i had this on gamegear, played for bloody ages, got near the end and died, never did finish it so looking forward to seeing it here. i have the rom for ds, might have to give it another go now :)
Its probably old news to you but Nintendo can be partly blamed for that. Publishers who wanted to release games on the NES had to sign a contract at the time that they would only release games for Nintendo's machine. Imagine how different things might have been if that had not been the case and companies like Konami, Capcom and various others also released their games on the Sega Master System around the same time as on the NES.

If you finish the game collecting 0 (ZERO) stars and finish the game, you'll get 2 million bonus points after the end credits, instead of 1 million (if you collect all 14 stars).
@@menartd2618 There was a Disney competition back in that in the USA to get tickets to Disneyworld i think. I don't remember what videogame magazine did it. Disney used to do competitions tied to points in videogames all the time. Up until the early 2000.
@TechnoEstate no, not nearly in most things. The SMS has 4 times the main ram and 8 times of graphic ram and most custom Chips are more powerful then in the NES.
i play this game right now on a MS emulator for PSP... :D now i know why i can't pass the giant plant stage... because i didn't notice the hole in the piramid stage... and i miss the shoes for walking on clouds.. :/ i tell you some hiden boxes... 16:40 on the right side of the second ladder 18:22 on the right side of the exit door 42:42 there's a secret passage on the right side of the M box.. you go thru the wall there's a few more... but i tell you next time. ;)
