mothman84 That's what cheats were for. If I remember correctly, hammer the buttons when you get a game over screen and you get a continue. I may have finished it without it though. At 32:29 I could never pass the spikes but I discovered you can bypass them at 32:10 with a flying cane

JRMeijin Alex Kidd eats a rice cake in the cartridge version, while eats a hamburger in the version integrated in the console. The latter also got inverted button to mimick other platform games.

You can get a patch online to restore the Western Alex. The 1 and 2 buttons are reversed on this one !!

You can use the invincibility powder on the octopus if you like. The manual lies to you, it works underwater... It's also handy for getting past the underwater spikes in the red castle. You just need to be careful with the octopus to kill him normally. You only need to punch out the tentacle section closest to his body and he's dead.

The controls are precise on Miracle World, you just have to become attuned to Alex's momentum and his way of moving. He does exactly what you tell him to do, you get used to it.

Are you saying you as a kid had never had the curiosity to boot the system without a cartridge in? To see the screen color maybe? Or how many dots it would show? Or at least what error it gave? Were you that addicted to getting a reward from strictly playing a certain game or set of games? So you needed an accident to discover the little wonder that was right under your nose?
