Excellent and concise instruction, as usual. Great comeback in Spain following a difficult first game against the Danes. Solid advice from Anthony Clark regarding keeping Mathias out of those attacking mid-court positions he absolutely loves, and it certainly showed in that second game.
Congratulations. Your camera work and editing has improved dramatically. I can just imagine how much time it takes to make those overlays. But they are so well illustrates the point. Respect and admiration. Thank you for your efforts
I don't play badminton at competitive level but these videos definitely keep me ahead from others in the game at some point Thanks a ton for the great videos!!!
this is one of my favorite shots because its easy to follow up when its hit clean never formally learned badminton, picked up tricks like these from playing often enough with friends and playing with better opponents .. wish i had all these videos to learn from when i started, wouldve progressed so much faster lol
Great structure on how you explain and demonstrate. Good for players new to the sport, like me. Fun to watch too, thank you! Great to watch your matches in Madrid, congratulations!
awesome tips as always guys. since it is ramadan, my usual team has stopped playing for the month, so i'll just be taking notes for now and use it later when we resumed playing again 😁
Your videos are very helpful And u also explain them very systematic way easy way due to which it is very easy to understand and implement it in my game Your videos are helping me to improve my game and I now have become confident with my strokes Keep posting!!!!
I was surprised to know that the elbow stops in the movement, I have been doing it wrong all along. Great explanation and examples to help the content stick 😉
i always thought this is something like a late-to-the-shuttle kind of smash variety, but apparently not and much more complex than that. thanks for the tutorial!
chortled at your surprise when you actually hit the shuttle with the stick! Lacking power in my full smash, I've always found the stick smash /punch clear combo useful. Glad to find I got that bit right!
It’s such a good advice for me to improve my game. Thanks very much for making this video. By the way, congrats on your semifinal result in Madrid and good luck on next week’s tournament in France. Hope you go as far as possible.
I just joined badminton and i have my first tournament on Monday. As a teenager ,ur videos help me a lot. Can u pls make a video abt how to play against older players(seniors)?I appreciate it .❤❤
Great video, always good to build up on my badminton armoury knowledge from you guys. All I need now is to execute them on court :-). Well played in Spain and good luck next week !!
Great video! I have been watching badminton for many years and I have realized that in particular, Lin dan's stick smash and cross court smash, especially from the forehand, seems to be slightly steeper and more powerful than most. Can you guys do a video on why this may be so?
I just started badminton, and I'm slow on the court. Its been almost 2 weeks since I started, and my shoulder hurts when I try to smash, and knees hurt after games. I don't know the proper cooldown and warmup. My ankle also hurts and player say body is rigid sometimes and there's no power in shots. HOW DO I IMPROVEEE
Maybe the method you grip racket and the energy used on wrong part. If beginner, can learn the simple tutorial first. Don't straight doing jumping smash and cross smash. You will get injury easily
Hi Greg and Jenny , I’m your fan from India , thanks a lot for uploading such amazing videos . I was able to improve a lot just by your videos . Your videos are up to the point and amazing , thanks a lot
Hello Greg and Jenny, i just started subscribe this channel, because i Saw so many knowledge about badminton in here. Btw, im from Indonesia and started like your performance and maybe be your fans😂. Idk why, i just like it. After Ellis and Smith rarely played, I started to see you guys, I wish you a brilliant career in the future.
Nice pun hehe. I never realized this was called a stick smash, but now that I know the theory behind how they’re different, I can try to consciously incorporate it into my game a bit more ☺️ That cross-court stick smash especially looks sick!
Thanks guys for another great video. You make learning badminton so easy! It would be a great help for many beginner & intermediate level players on how to hit "round the head" shots. I am always late and have to resort to a weak backhand clear instead and lose the rally.
@@BadmintonInsight eagerly waiting for it! Evertime i try to hit "round the head" it goes out of bounds. I am just not able to work the angle and get the shuttle to go straight 😅
Hey guys I was wondering if you could make a video on how one can manage themselves better as an independent player? I recently attended tryouts for a team and didn't make the cut, but I still want to compete. However, I'm unsure how to go about things. How do I know what to work on, which tournaments to join, things like that. A few tips would be really appreciated! With that being said, great work on the video as always!
Can you please come out with a video explaining how players are choose to participate in bwf tournaments like the super series and international series..thank-you 🎉❤
Great video as usual. I know you guys have already done some videos on footwork, but i do think it'd be a great idea to make a video which covers everything there is to know about footwork.I assume it'd be a very long video since there is a lot to know. This such an important part of the game, and despite being able to find separate videos about footwork, i couldn't find one which covers it all. Also, you did really good at the spanish open, well played. Looking forward to see you play at the orlean open! Cheers 💚
Yes we’ve done a series on footwork (split step, 4 corner, Forehand corner footwork) and we’re sure we’ll add more in the future but these videos are hopefully good starting points 😊
Hi, and thanks for the exellent content. I really enjoy your channel! I would love to hear your take on the speed of shuttles, particularly in a tournament setting. The reason I ask, is because after many years of recreational play, my partner and I recently started taking our doubles game to a more serious level, so we started participating in club tournaments. When we play practice matches, we use cheaper shuttles of varying quality, which usually (~80% of the time) results in us having to add weight to the head of the shuttle in the form of blue-tac in order for our underhand test-strokes to reach near the doubles service line, as specified by the rules. We opted for this solution thinking that we would be training ourselves to play with shuttles of proper-ish speed without breaking the bank. However when we play in our club tournaments, the rules specify that we should play with the shuttles that the club stocks in their refrigerator, which are the Victor smash it #1's. While these are expensive high-quality shuttles (atleast by our standards), no official testing has ever taken place, and it seems like my partner and I are the only ones concerned with the slowness of the shuttles during play. It feels like there's almost no danger of ever hitting any shot too long. So my question is as follows: how does this work in pro level tournaments? You mentioned that Greg got to test the shuttles at one point in your "Malaysia Open 2023 behind the scenes" video; I would love to learn more. My reasoning is that: given that there is variance in the skill and power levels of individual players (particularly at the lower club levels), one could make the argument that there is a lot of subjectivity when it comes to testing shuttles. - For example, as a mediocre club player, how can I be sure that it really is the shuttle, and not the quality of my under-arm stroke that is at fault? Being used to "correct speed shuttles" (for me anyway) I struggle a lot with the timing of my shots when I play with slower shuttles, and make easy mistakes because my reflexes and muscle memory is incorrectly tuned. - Is this something that I just need to learn to deal with? - What if I now learn to play with slower shuttles, and then eventually enter a higher-level tournament where the shuttles are of "correct" speed? - Again I would be out of my comfort zone. For what it's worth, I tried reading up on the topic, but there is very little literature around this. The only corroborating sources I found were written by a British coach named Paul Stewart.
Great video. My problem is exactly the last point you mentioned. I tried stick smash so much that now it has become muscle memory and I cant hit proper smash these days with full body rotation. 🤦♂
Matter fact, this is the kind of smash I have been using since day 1, mimicing LZJ. Every teammates and opposing teams told me that my smash needs more power, but the control is pretty well. Now that I know the full smash isn't this one, I have just found new way to increase power instead of doing gym workout 😂
Hi Greg , my coach told me that i lack of flexibility in my swinging action, even tho my technique is quite good but my swinging motion is kinda stiff, would be happy for a advice 😊
Nice to see your still doing videos. Not playing at the moment as mate has injury and it be few months😢. But the videos keep me going. Mind you i would prob do better with that stick😂. Saw your match in semi. Good progress realy but sorry for your loss. I think they moved the lines for them. And what was with the hulk the other side?...to much danish pastry i think. Whats your nxt tournament?. Good luck and look forward for nxt video.
Hi great video absolutely loved it, just a quick perhaps unrelated question does changing to a thicker racket grip cause issues in the wrist? ive recently changed to one and wrist pain has started thought id ask the pros.
I discovered that Goh V shem elbow rotation is the same regardless if he do a full power or a stick smash (his overall upper body rotation is very compact). This combined with his famous high jump creates an amazing angle and quick hitting motion so the opponent can't read the trajectory.. His compact technique resulted in his right shoulder to be way more muscular than his left one. (comparatively to other players)
@@Avexius I think I can put out a video discussing his exact technique. Having the opportunity to watch him live gave me some insights in 2019 but my more recent studies have many infos on his posture.
You hit the shuttle with the stick on first take??? Where are the outtakes? :) Great video once again! There's a new wave videos on this spinning serve, I'm sure it'll get banned but are you guys going to cover it? (exciting times!)
Good start to your next tournament. 2nd game was interesting. 😮. I know tv doesnt do the games justice at times. But the last two tournaments . It looks like your playing in a gym with no crowd. How is that to play in compared to birmingham etc?. Such a shame badminton doesnt get the same hype as tennis.....which i find hard to watch. Anyway good luck next match.
Thanks Keith, yep they had a good comeback and we lost a bit of focus! There was actually quite a good crowd for the majority of the day, but they were sat on the other side of the camera 😂 The French tournaments usually get a decent turnout!
Hard luck in Spain, I reckon you've got the measure of your opponents, you'll get them next time! Also, some of the defence you played was off the scale - amazing! What was the conversation with the umpire near the start and the opponents at the end about? I guessed the shuttle speed had been changed?
