I recently became a member of "Watercolors That Glow" and have learned so much from Debbie already. I completed this color wheel lesson and it is very helpful when attempting a bright painting!
I was a tole and decorative painter for 10 years, in the 70s. I learned more color theory in this class than I did in 10 years of lessons and teaching. Watercolor is new, and challenging, to me. Thank you!!
I've watched countless limited palette colour mixing tutorials in an effort to get the hang of colour theory and improve my mixing skills, and this is hands down the most helpful and easy to understand one I've ever viewed! Thank you so much for sharing.
This is revelation! Thank you so much for this video. Im a beginner at the very start of my journey, Im the oposite of what is creative, I need to translate the artsy ways to square information. And this hepls soooo much! Watercolor, because of its unpredictability, feels for me like skydiving for someone who is scared of heights. You gave me a control over my colours. Thats a lot. Thank you💚
If only more teachers taught beginners this way. Simple is always better. Then when you have the basics down and you understand color, you can move on to adding another color, like a cool or a warm to give you a bigger color range! Thank you so much for the nice compliment.
I enjoyed the first part of this video but it stopped at the Lemon painting at 27 min. I have a lot of yellow paints and I am going to test them for how they behave ❤
Yes it did, It was just a simple quick tutorial on what filming with a limited palette looks like. I do this before every tutorial and I was waiting for the moment that I did a really good job explaining this process. The tutorial is on my website! I have a sunflower and the lemon. I think the sunflower is great for shadows and glow but here are the 2 links: watercolorsthatglow.thinkific.com/courses/sunflower-tutorial. watercolorsthatglow.thinkific.com/courses/simple-beginner-lemon
I love the limited pallet. I think I have coloring anxiety at the moment lol what were the pigment numbers of all three that you used in this video? And do you recommend sticking with single pigments?
Yes, single pigment, transparent colors! I always use Nickle Azo Yellow PY150 for my yellow, Quinacridone Magenta Pr122 for my red and Phalo Blue PB15:3 G/S for the blue. I stick with about 5 colors. a warm and cool red and a warm and cool blue, plus my nickle azo yellow
The formula really has nothing to do with creating harmony in a painting. When you have too many colors in your palette and you are learning to paint, this causes color confusion. Watercolors can be opaque or transparent, staining or lifting, graulating, etc. When you go to choose a color and you have 3 or 4 different reds in your palette it’s confusing to figure out which color. Same with yellows, blues, greens, etc. so leaning to pick 3 similar colors in strength and transparency will help you create a harmonious palette and learn to focus on the importance of creating value and harmony in your painting.
