His book Mastery was the first book that changed my life completely. I have become a completely different person after reading that book and it serves and influence me to this day. I consider him my mentor and I want to thank him with all my heart. I hope you recover completely from your stroke. Peace.

@Stinkin Joe I treated it like my life's handbook. I wrote a summary of each chapter and kept reading those repeatedly, I would look for situations where I could apply these principles in real life. This book made me rethink my entire life, I changed all my habits, it was my REBIRTH.

I had a bad, bad period where everything overwhelmed me and emotionally I handled it badly. Resentment and vengeance characterized my attituded best. When I finally stopped the dangerous, worthless thinking, I also let go of the hatred and desire for destruction of my perceived enemies. I prayed for their wellbeing instead, and I can't stop smiling and reveling over the sense of spiritual alleviation 💗

I am watching this again just at the right time. Like Robert, I have had illness suddenly and drastically change my physical ability. I spend much of my time at home/in bed and have needed the care of other people at times. He is right about your attitude and mindset. You really have to shift your mindset to acceptance in order to make the best of your situation and transpire; regardless of current limitations.

I had a deep insight after a long intense period of zen meditation many years ago that impressed itself into the rest of my life, and that seems so close to what Greene is talking about here. I saw in an instant that all our lives are an endless circular smokescreen of mental habit. But it's just that! A smokescreen. It's the wisp of a shadow within the totality of All, of Eternity, of incredible Love and Intelligence. I was just blown away. I have been constantly asking myself since then "Who am I?".

One of my favorite things to do is observe people, and so, with some many years doing that, I can read their non verbal language easily. Few years ago, when I was married to a person that speak another language, we went to visit his family, and after a month of being there non understanding their language but observing people's non verbal language, I knew all the relationships and all the secrets between each other. It was fascinating. I think visiting another country where you can not use your language all the time is a very humbling and good practice for your mind.
@banderas2000
@banderas2000 4 года назад

@MartaWyngaard
@MartaWyngaard 4 года назад
The Delta Yes, I was. My husband was from Iran. We spent a month there every two years. Well, in big gatherings everybody will speak in Farsi and I will observe. And because the language was not there, I could see the non verbal communication, that is as powerful as language. You could do that with family pictures and see which children are close to which parent. As humans, we are always sending messages. Also, when I was working as an architect, we had to do a analysis if public housing in Florida. It was really impressive that after entering in a house, for the few details in the rooms you could tell so much. Who was religious, responsible, organized, good parent, etc. Which were their priorities, etc. What you need to do, is quiet the noise around you and observe. We are always leaving things in our path of who we are, and how we see the world. I think that the best advice to a new parent is not to buy all the gadgets and read all the blogs, but observe the baby and learn what that little being is.

Thank you so much for having Robert on this show. I've been an avid reader of his books for YEARS and was thrilled when The Laws of Human Nature was published -- purchased it as an ebook, paperback, and audiobook. Ha! This is just so enlightening... and it's so incredible to listen to him explain his worldview and view on mankind. He's often called a modern Machiavelli (which they don't tend to mean as a compliment), but he isn't -- although he's certainly as sharp as old Niccolo. Sad to see that he's clearly still struggling after suffering a stroke. I was wondering what was going on, but that explained it. I wish him well -- and if he reads this, I'd tell him to take pride in how he can now also teach others (i.e.: readers/viewers) how to come back after such a horrendous experience.

Fantastic interview. Such immense wisdom about the human animal and its true nature contained within this discussion. I'm nearly halfway through this newest book by Robert and while the format is somewhat different from some of his earlier books (they're all amazing!) I believe that this one is his most important book yet in terms of the value he has given to humanity. On another note, Tom is truly an outstanding interviewer; knowledgable, prepared, and his interview style and questions created the environment for his guest to shine. Well-done, gentleman. Tom, besides the amazing content IT offers, I want to say something that really hits me every time and i just love it. Obviously you have done a lot of homework prior to interviewing people, but then your questions are super rich and interesting which enables speakers to also answer in a super informative way. I have watched other podcasts of entrepreneurs who rely on their guest too much! The speaker ends up having a monologue and the "conversation" goes in all directions, instead of following a certain narrative. I also love how sincerely and openly you approach speakers who have gone / are going through difficult moments, like Greene. I particularly liked that you noted his alignment with Erickson and tied it to his (Greene's) current work. Another thing that must be appreciated is how your questions carefully drive the narrative of each IT episode! I love it and Thank you!

I love that Part from Mastery : “In dealing with fools you must adopt the following philosophy: they are simply a part of life, like rocks or furniture. All of us have foolish sides, moments in which we lose our heads and think more of our ego or short-term goals. It is human nature. Seeing this foolishness within you, you can then accept it in others. This will allow you to smile at their antics, to tolerate their presence as you would a silly child, and to avoid the madness of trying to change them. It is all part of the human comedy, and it is nothing to get upset about or lose sleep over”

In my humble opinion, Mr. Robert Greene's philosophy should be a subject of study in the educational systems all over the World, specifically the one related to dealing with the Laws of human nature, power, strategy and mastery.

Dude, i study philosophy and things what he is talking about is in Socrates Philosophy (I know that I dont know nothing), he even told delphic maxim *know yourself*. He is just talking about basic psychology (with was born from phlisosophy somewhere like 200 years ago). As he said you need only take some books and read...and think about what you read. That is all. I dont know what I target with my comment, just wanna say that if you wanna more try to Plato Dialogues, or Wittgenstein - Tractatus logico-philosophicus. I also suggest Freud - Vorlesungen zur Einführung in die Psychoanalyse (Dont know how to translate this but for sure it is easy to find). That are some laws that we are living with so you dont need to read any books, but you should to know what focus on. :)

I always read the unspoken maneurisms and often feel that I know people more than they know themselves. This is a hyperactive ability that freaked me out for a long time. So much so that I would tune out their words and only see the body language, tone of voice, and facial expression. I've gotten alot more comfortable with this and learned to trust it. I believe this ability is a form of hypervigilance due to severe PTSD.

ive been saying this for a long time.. sometimes i have to work on this myself and watch everything i say to my kids.. my son just turned 4 and every since he has been going to daycare his behavior has gotten not soo good sometimes and i realized that the so called teacher in his daycare were consistently calling him bad or out of control or what is wrong with him or he wont listen etc... him as a child hearing that over and over again has made him start to feel like he is bad or like he wont listen so in turn that makes him do it more. when raising children , when they are doing something wrong please just sit them down and tell them that they are good kids and you are proud of them but acting like that will make people think they are bad when you know they are not. a good person can have bad behavior but by telling someone what they are over and over again they will start to internalize it and be that way. I tell my kids that everything you say can come true so be very careful with what you say. !!

I agree with Robert that we need to develop our ability to communicate on a spiritual level. We are the culmination of patterns from past generations and the present. Notice what you notice...very simple. The other part is to put a stop to these patterns so they do not keep repeating in our life. I also love Milton Erickson. He could change a person's life by speaking one sentence. I am going to get Robert's book. Thank you Tom for having Robert on your show.

Removing emotional response from a memory is done by removing the emotion from that memory so you can later review it as a fact, not as a feeling (pain). Therein lies the work, and that work is done in whatever way works best for you. Keep digging, you'll find your answers, your methods :-)

also your time is and attention is valuable. "avoid those in life who don't care, deal with those who make an effort" . forgot were i heard that but it's true. if someone is indifferent to you, treats you a certain way, send them love and send them on their way.

I’ve ordered about 10 of the guests that Tom has interviewed books. That’s pretty powerful. I’m about to read digital minimalism by Cal Newport again. I’m tired of social media I’m in a terrible loop of deleting and re installing them from my phone. Same with the dating apps I’ll Download tinder and bumble not get any matches and by the end of the day I delete and 3/4 days later I go back. I’ve recently quit this year... caffeine, cigarettes, marijuana, and 2 weeks ago alcohol. Social media is the last one to go but I know will probably make a wonderful difference for the next 4-6 months. Know thyself.
