Mike Haysman chats to Michael Holding about his career, his passion for the game and his love for commentating. Also chats about the West Indies fast bowling era and how it started.
Kallum there aint a cricket lover made without loving test cricket...but that shouldnt make us hate t20 it challenges a player on a totally diffrent level.
Kallum true but the way that guy interviewer him showed no respect ... calling him an assassin or old footage of bruising on a player not even at the time Mikey was bowling
I will always remember watching him at Adelaide oval in the 80's, the poetry in motion run up, and lovely action, truly the Rolls Royce of fast bowlers
Sir Michael Holding is a phenomenon gentleman in my book. He was not only a great cricketer but also an articulate and outspoken Jamaican. May God continue to bless and watch over him and his family. Blessings.
This interview is absolute top class. When Mikey was representing the great West Indies team under Clive Lloyd it brought back so many great memories that thrill my boyhood days. Seeing Mickey run in and bowl was worth every penny of admission. Me and my friends used to skip school on many occasions just to watch this powerful West Indies team demolished their opponents. This interview is very special and Micheal Holding is an absolute gem of a human being!!!!
This video is absolute treasure. Michael Holding is such an icon. His voice, his analysis, his way of delivery and his stoic opinions. Not swaying away from the truth ever. He’s one of my fav older cricketers. Can listen to him all day. May he live a long and wonderful life.
Michael holding is the best voice in commentating world...pure Knowledge and attracting people with his marvelous stories....whispering death my all time idol ♥
Legendary Michael Holding. IT is always a pleasure 🙏 listening to you sharing your knowledge & and experiences. Michael, you were anointed from the day you were born to archive Greatness
Michael Holding is truly a legendary person: I met him years ago at Casa Montego Hotel in Montego Bay and at Lords in London in 1984. Very lovely person whose commentary was always very incisive
An all time great, no question! "Whispering Death" was such an apt nickname for him with that smooth as silk approach to the wicket, almost as though he were gliding, and the exocet release at the end, a joy to watch.
"Can't only talk about the good, have to talk about the bad as well"... And take full responsibility even though their frustration was boiling over. What a class human being and cricketer.
Still Great Imran Khan calls him the most quick and toughest bowler of that era, partnered by Andy,Colin,Malcolm,Garner what a terror group,no wonder that era West Indies is still remembered as Greatest cricketing super power
He is not a Sir, Viv Richards, Andy Roberts, Curtly Ambrose, Clive Lloyd etc. have been knighted. But it would be correct to say Sir Michael if he was knighted...
A very good interview and one of the best bowlers of all time. Holding could be fast and brutal when it came to his bowling. He is also a thoughtful and good commentator.
Always my favorite fast bowler of all time. Marshall was the best, but Holding was pure theatre to watch, in my opinion the best bowling action of all time.
He is a tremendous machine, a vehicle for the process of his many facets about cricket. Just one of those person you wish long life upon. His precise unfolding of stories, are breathtaking.
Holding, Garner, Marshall, Croft, Roberts, Ambrose, Walsh all world class bowlers... Viv Richards, Lara, Sobers, Haynes, Grenige, Gayle, Chanderpaul absolute legends of the game
"whispering death" as people used to call him, brilliant as a fast bowler and equally good and honest when it comes to commentating, malcolm marshall was my personal favourite tough :P
"Sideon bowling has been in cricket as back as 1920s. How is getting sideon and rotating Ur whole body around is a problem! You could bowl fast and never get back problem. This modern bowling idea, thinking sideon bowling to be bad, is bullshit"
Every cricket lover would have wished to be born in that era to witness the greats playing. Michael holding, Andy Roberts, Colin Croft, Joel Garner, Wayne Daniel, patrick.patterson, malcolm Marshall, slyvester clarke, Dennis like, Jeff Thomson, trueman, Bob Willis, imran Khan, Kapil Dev.
Was blessed enough to grow up watching all those named on this thread. Even as an India fan I used to have a picture on my wall of Malcolm Marshall running in to bowl at Ravi Shastri at Bombay in `83. The pic was from behind the bowlers arm. 7 slips waiting to snare an edge and Ravi Shastri with his eyes almost popping out of his head like rabbit caught in the headlights. Pure fear...and rightly so.
Ha Ha! Michael's mother was my Headmistress at elementary school. The best teacher I ever had. I did not like teachers and when I ran into Mrs.Holding years later, she laughed so hard because a classmate had told her I got married to a teacher. Guess one could say Karma bit me in the butt. LMAO!
i am an indian , i am not sure why i feel proud of achievements of west indians like no other country in the world. these are living legends and they will not sell themselves for money, you can have absolute trust in them for saying what is good for cricket.
Yes, Michy, u r right! U need to make others happy to be happy!! Nice to see u in this video. I met the Emperor Sir Gary Sobers and presented one of my Cricket Creations, a beautiful replica of a cricket ground with full of action in it&Sir Gary gave me great compliments in writing and kept my gift in his suitcase and carried with him! I would like to meet u too one day bcz I like u!! -Love.
The guy was nick named "whispering death". So silent but a terrific bowler. Look at his bowling, so easy yet so fast...I would like to see him bowl now. In fact, i want to see all the old great players on the field some day.
I am with Michael Holding impressed Roy Fredericks, Alvin Kallicharran and Clive Lloyd in a Shell Shield, Guyana v Jamaica, at Bourda, in Georgetown March 29 - April 1, 1975. Holding returned bowling figures of 10.3/0/39/3. Holding bowled Kallicharran without scoring and Sidney Matthews, scored 20 runs. He also dismissed Fredericks caught behind by wicket -keeper Desmond Lewis, after scoring only 8 runs. He was ready for Australia and international cricket. When did four or more fast bowlers first play on the same team in test cricket? In July 1939, Constantine, Hylton, Martindale and Williams bowled at Old Trafford. Is the second innings at Old Trafford, the origins of West Indies foursome? During 1900 - July 1939 beginning with Burton, Cummerbatch and Woods, West Indies used three fast bowlers in international cricket. In 1976, Lloyd employed Roberts, Holding, Daniel and Holder in England. Croft and Garner joined Roberts, in 1977 versus Pakistan. Roberts, Holding, Daniel, Croft and Garner were with Lloyd's Packer World Series Cricket. Roberts, Holding, Croft and Garner, the fearsome foursome, were all above 90 MPH. I can't imagine Constantine, Hylton, Martindale and Williams bowled at and/or above 90 MPH at Old Trafford in July 1939.

Jamaica does not usually confer British Knighthoods. Mikey may not accept one even if offered. Antigua and Barbados confer their own knighthoods. They also accept those of the British Crown. Colonial heritage is complicated.
Michael holding along with ian bishop is the best commentator there ever was especially his accent was like realy entertaining and the pronunciation of words is just amazing legendary
Thee honorable Michael holding I know you feel down when the history about our ancestors is been hidden from then till today 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
