In this episode of “The Pipe Box”, Gold Medallist, Jim McGillivray breaks everything you need to know about moisture control in the Great Highland Bagpipe.
Condensation is inevitable when playing bagpipes. The essence of moisture control for bagpipes is to catch the condensation (moisture) in either condensation (or saliva) and prevent it from reaching your drone reeds and/or pipe chanter reed - before it affects how the reeds perform and operate.
From a simple tube water trap, bottle trap, and blowpipe stock valve to the more advanced Bannatyne's "Dri-Flo" Moisture Control system and the Ross Canister System - Jim breaks down everything you need to know to ensure your best piping experience.
Finding the right solution for your needs will help improve your tone and extend the length of time you can play your pipes in tune. To learn more about the moisture control systems featured in the video please visit - piping.on.ca/pipe-bags/
